Any cat that does not have papers, whether it looks like a puerbred or the person who told you said they had purebreds, is regarded as a moggie (muttcat) and has no defined breed in the cat fancy. There are many people running around breeding unpapered cats claiming they're purebreds when they are not. True defined mixes are rare and are typically only created by people attempting to make a new breed or breed in good characteristics to unhealthy lines, and will still come with papers as well as being very expensive.
