you can honestly get attatched to almost anything; I bawled my eyes out when my pet praying mantis died. They easily have as much personality as bettas. He wasn't even full grown; he fell over when he was shedding his skin so his new exoskeleton dried crooked and made him unable to move.

I almost always cry a bit when I lose fish too ;n;

Thank you for everyone 's concern. c: I feel bad about your preying mantis. My friend used to have a pet caterpillar. He made his cocoon (he was a moth caterpillar) but never came out. She kept him for 6 months in the cocoon. :c

So I've had my 4 neon tetras for probably 3 months now. They'd been very healthy until today. I have them and 4 Cory's in a 10 gallon and the one neon has white fuzz on the edge of his fins. I am used to fin rot as I had and have my fair share of bettas but I've never had it in other fish. Would it be safe for the fish to put salt in the tank and if so how much. I have a 1 gallon I could put him in to treat him if necessary. Thanks in advance!

I know (sorta ) how you feel, I cried when my praying mantis died, I was hoping I could keep her eggs and maybe keep a baby or two but someone threw them out on accident so I cried again and now I have zero mantis's

I remember reading a few places that you shouldn't treat an aquarium with salt when it has cories in it. ^^ It damages their internal organs, or something similar.
I've cured fine rot simply with slightly warmer water, one big water change, and then a small one every other day or so until it clears up.
Or you could stick him in the one gallon with the salt water, but I think that would also require pretty frequent water changes because of the size of the tank and you want to keep him in clean water. ^^

Two part question

1. Scales

So my comet gold fish use to be pretty much all orange, now we just passed a year together and he's starting to get white on him- is this normal? I will post a pic once I get onto my computer.

2. Tank
So- Ollie the goldie is in a small tank- 10 gallons and I don't like it. But my friend has a rather large tank and she doesn't like it- so I was thinking about taking hers from her, I know a comet needs 55 gallons- but how many does a comet + a common need? Her fish is only small compared to Ollie though, he's like 60% smaller them him.

I want to set up another saltwater tank and plan to do it down the road. We had a 30 gallon FOWLR(I tbink thats what its called) tank with two clownfish, two scooter blennies, a sifting goby, and a blackfin blenny. We lost the tank to a sudden red slime algae bloom.

cute^^ I looked up what a scooter blenny is ( I haven't had a blenny in a long time, x.x I had one of those yellow and purple ones-)

awww...my mom says you can get rid of red slime off with underwater fans/circulation fans- our kitchen one sometimes gets red slime, but it goes away w/h the fans.
