What brand of ferret food do you recommend, then?
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

Zupreem ferret food is a really great brand to give your ferrets. It matches all their dietary needs.

I just don't think I'm understanding completely. :) I checked Zupreem and the protein is 40% and fat is 20% which is the exact same as most high quality grain free cat foods. Cats and Ferrets are both carnivores which get everything they need from the meat bones and organs of their prey and need no plant matter in their diets.

You'd feet cats and ferrets the exact same diet if you did raw which would be 80% muscle, 10% bone, 5% liver and 5% other organs with plenty of heart. Since thye have the both dietary needs theres really no difference. Evo used to make a cat food and a ferret food and they exactly the same foods, but with a different name on the front of the bag.

Thank's Cardinal.
My ferrets eat mostly a raw diet which include's whole animal carcasses the cat food is a base for only hot weather when meat would spoil and course death due to botalisam.

Ferret food brands in the UK.

That isnt even all of them and to be honest there not as good as they seem.
There is another Alpha Ferret Feast which I cant seem to find the site for.

Taste of The Wild cat food.

I did all of home work before using cat food and to be honest they look better using the cat food and raw diet than when I was using the ferret food, there not ravenous at the night like they would be even with feeding ferret food and there coats and weight are fantastic.
I have had many ferrets over many years and when I first started to own them there no such thing as a "pet" ferret only a working ferret ;)

Welcome! c:

Does anyone know of any tips on trying to get your ferret to eat meat? I swear I try all the time but they will. Not. Eat. It. I even took their food out and put the meat in their cage instead and they didn't eat for two days so I finally just put their food back. I would give up but there are almost no good ferret foods in my area except this one brand that costs almost 50 bucks a bag. All of them have corn and rice as second and third ingredients or even first. Bleh.

And on the topic of feeding your ferret cat food, yes, it is completely fine to feed your ferret cat food. Not only do cats have very similar dietary needs, but the cat food I have seen would be great for ferrets to eat and have ingredients that are in fact better than most ingredients in ferret food I have seen. If this raw meat thing fails, I will start buying them cat food instead. My past ferret ate cat food for the majority of her life and lived well past the estimated age of death, she died at 12 1/2 years when most people say 8/10.

What meat are you trying.
When I started my kits on meat I used day old chicks with the heads chopped off and rabbits chopped in half which had been frozen for 3 weeks then thawed out.
Most ferrets seems to take easy to chicks though as there small and you can get them from any pet shop which provides food for large snakes.

I have actually tried a lot of different meats. With what I have seen many people feel their ferret before before, I got rabbit meat and they didn't want to try it. Then shortly after that, I went out and I bought some duck meat and they didn't like that either. I tried many of the meats we eat (beef, steak, pork, chicken, etc.) and none of them have worked. Our pet store doesn't sell any meats like that, the only thing that they have is kibble.

Duck soup. Feed their kibble with a touch of water, more water, blended with water until soup consistency. Feed this over a couple of days then very slowly start adding in ground chicken to the mixture.. then more chicken, start cutting back the kibble until its all chicken then start adding small chunks then larger chucks.

It takes a couple of weeks. You can use any meat, but ground chicken is pretty cheap and easy to find. Then you just go about most toher raw diets balancing 80% meat, 10% bone, 5% liver, and 5% other organs like kidney and spleen.
