We're getting new fosters very soon! But the president of our group is not happy because our partner group accepted 30(!!) dogs without telling us. We assume there's so many because the middle and south states are trying to make room for the Florida dogs. We'll end up with 15 dogs max here (but probably only about 10), most of the rest will go to the group that accepted the dogs, and three or four will go to surrounding states. It's our first haul since last year, and fostering is my absolute favorite thing! I hope we have enough fosters, and at the booth I do every month we've had tons of adoption interest so hopefully this goes fast. Picture of our last foster (and me lmao) because she's gorgeous <3 Image

Also, one of our greyhounds is learning new things! She can now lay down and spin! She's learned so much in the past month, I'm very proud of her! She's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but that's why she's loved, and her grasping even super basic training queues is amazing!

does anyone have some showy-offy trick ideas for my aussie to do. he loves it and it's really fun to watch his progression. a list of tricks that Pepper (the aussie) can do:
the basics (sit, stay, lie down, wait, down, etc.)
jump over (if you bend over he'll leap over you)
spin (if you yell it when he's jumping he'll do it in midair)
play dead
wake 'er up! (he jumps in my bed and licks my face and barks until i wake up)
shake (he'll do it with your foot)
high five (he'll do it with your foot)
pepper let's watch tv (he jumps on the couch)

and that's it. I have a list of tricks i want to do with him but i'm looking for some ideas that maybe you did with your dog or want to do? even ridiculous ideas let me hear them.

My Aussie pup turns 1 year old tomorrow! Here are some tricks she knows or I want to teach her:
Wait- I put food on her nose and say wait then take-it after a few minutes. (not sure if thats what you meant by wait?)
Weaving through my legs
Sit Pretty
Clean-up- puts all the toys in a bucket
Basket-ball- buy a kids basket-ball hoop and teach him to play!

You could also look up Dog Freestyle if you've never heard of that. It sounds like it wouldn't be hard to teach Pepper how to do most of the freestyle moves c:

Hope you got a new trick from this list!

A few “showy-offy” tricks that Kahlua knows are “army crawl” (forwards and backwards, backwards is funnier), and counting. Basically I say a number and hold up that many fingers, she boops me that many times (we’re up to four so far, my goal is ten). Army crawl is just a down, then you guide them forward with a treat until they start crawling. Repeat if they stand up or anything like that. Another fun one is hug. We do “arm hug” which is wrapping her arm around your shoulder, and just “hug” which means put your head on my shoulder. Both are pretty cute! We also do “give a kiss” which is a nose target on the cheek. “Give a kiss” is pretty quick to teach if your pup has hand targets down. Good luck, learning sillier tricks like these once you have your basics down is super fun.

How about training him to find your keys or the remote. Bring in the paper? Fetch you a drink from the fridge? Smiling on cue would be cute. I taught Chloe do do a "hand ten" where she puts both her paws on both my hands. Saying your prayers is another good trick, as is bowing on cue. Rolling over is always a good one, and if you can train your dog to hold a blanket in his mouth while he does it, it will look like he'd tucking himself in.

I'll link you to some videos on puppy biting...

Stop puppy biting with handling games - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dMKR5i9iNQ&t=1s
Stop your puppy biting and mouthing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c77--cCHPyU&t=2s
Surviving Puppy Biting - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wbLzz1QlDw&t=1s
Learn Puppy Bite Inhibition - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=068K5Zlph9U&t=3s
Chew Toy Training - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mabu1Y6iOj4
Stop Puppy Biting Clothes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwLfbkc8N24

Make sure you have a variety of toys and chews available that your dog can chew on. Also a tired dog is a good dog so try upping the amount of excercise both physical (like walks, play) and mental (training, puzzle toys).

Anyone else here been watching or been to Crufts this year?
I'm quite mad that the best of breed eurasier and malamute didn't even make the shortlist of their respective groups but the best of group dogs were lovely. I'd probably cry if I was a judge, I'd never be able to choose.
My stepmum and stepsister had never seen flyball before and were absolutely dazzled by it on day 2, comparing it to an Olympic sport for dogs. It's actually mad how fast they are, especially the smaller dogs that you wouldn't think would measure up to the larger ones.
