Yup, surprise. I can't tell which Cichlids you have by the photograph, but it sounds like you've got a mouth brooder. This means that they will have their babies, but when threatened or scared, the parents will scoop all the babies into their mouth. That is, of course until the fry are too large.
Anyhow, glad you found your babies.

How many female bettas would be good in a 35? I'm gonna do a sorority <3
(he doesn't like bettas much, but heck, he said I need a theme, so whatever)
I would say around 20-25 would be happy in a 35 gallon.
I have 9 in my ten gallon. Just make sure you have a lot of nice hiding places because they do end up fighting no matter what. Mine go crazy over food, they attack each other.
I suggest silk plants (make your own) and thinks will work out great!

That sounds like a lot for a 35. I don't know much about sororities, but putting that many bettas in sounds like a lot to me... I was thinking around ten. Would they not be stressed with that many bettas in one place?
And I live plant and aquascape all my tanks ^u^

Even after all the different ways I attempted to help, my big black angelfish passed away. He was only a year old. I didn't even get a chance to use Epsom salt as he was gone when I got home today.
What sucks is I just don't know what he died from as he had so many different symptoms. He was perfectly healthy and active in the community tank except for getting the fight bites.
Next thing I know, after I separated him with his mate so he could heal, he up and gets sick and dies. I am hoping she will be alright. Since she is a black, and they are so delicate, I don't want to move her quite yet.
I don't want to move her back to the community tank since she's been exposed to whatever he had so I'm going to complete the 5 day regimen I started with him (1 day left) and then draw down the tank and wait to see if she shows any issues. I can't see any scale damage on her, and she's bright and looks like she is just fine. She is not showing any of the symptoms he did.
Even with 20 years fishy experience, I feel at a loss since I tried everything I could to help him and he still passed away.![]()

He was gorgeous, the best I've ever owned and dang it, I can't afford another for awhile.

Any ideas on what sort of plants I should use, and any ornaments they might like? I know some hiding spots (so maybe a cave or flowerpot), but do they like rocks/logs?
