I've never been a small dog kinda person, but I moved in with my aunt and she has a couple dachshunds. She has one named Rusty who was a rescue and is super skeptical about people so she told me to hold my hand put and let him come to me. I sat on the couch and he came and just sat on my lap, didnt sniff me or anything. He kinda just decided he liked me and he became instantly protective of me. Her other dachshund, Lacy, likes to try and shove him out of my lap. I've learned just how much I love dachshunds.

my great dane baby is finally home after having his front leg amputated. the poor baby got diagnosed with osteosarcoma but we were lucky enough to catch it before it could spread to his lungs. i don't think words can describe how much i missed him :(. before he came home, we went an hour away and back to visit him for only about 45 minutes. he's been doing great so far and i hope it stays like this for a long while <3
on the other note, does anyone have any tips on making homemade dog food?

My advice is to get your diet advice (and recipe) from a veterinary nutritionist, not a children's website or social media/forums etc.

@marimba, since you asked for tips, I have one thing I will add; it saves alot of time and money if you buy in bulk and prepare future meals in bulk and freeze them for later. I'm so glad your little pupperino is doing well and is back home with his family <3

Though taiger is right, it'd be best to talk to your vet about specific recipes, but most of the time you know what's best for you dog because, well, you raised and live with him! My vet gave me great advice on certain ingredients and such, but none of the recipes and ratios he gave me really helped my girl (she's got weight issues). Even though it may be frowned upon here, I'll still suggest joining raw-fed and homemade dog food facebook groups, they are very helpful when you're just starting out.
There's also an app called Raw Pet, I believe, that will help if you're interested in feeding raw ^^
*Raw Pet is an app that allows you to manage your pets raw meal portions based on your pets statistic. You can easily find out the correct percentages of Meat, Bone, Liver and Offal to feed your pet.*

my apologizes if i made it seem like i was looking for a recipe or diet advice, i meant more specific dos and do nots from anyone who had experience with doing it (such as ways to make it less expensive). my bad!

@eggnog., thank you! that helps a lot, i honestly didn't think about freezing it. the facebook group also sounds like a good idea and i'll look into Raw Pet. thank you so much!

Hello! New to this thread, can’t believe I haven’t posted here yet cause I’m a definitely a dog person.

I am looking for advice, regarding keeping a dog away from a Christmas tree. Basically just looking for experiences, or maybe your guys’ dogs don’t even mess with it. But this is my first Christmas with my dog, she’s a heeler mix, I’m wanting to take precaution.

    Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the thread! c:
My 9 month old pup doesn’t bother with our tree but was curious about the presents when we put them under a few days ago, all I had to do is tell her “leave it” (because she knows that command) but you could either train your dog with treats and such to leave the tree alone or you could spray the tree with ‘dog repellent’ type of spray, which they don’t like.

What is it that your dog does in specific?

Okay so, we have a live tree, never had a fake one and probably never will. Knowing her, she'd prob leave it alone if it was fake, but I guess she must like its smell because the girl is definitely curious about it. It's not fully decorated, just a few ornaments and one strand of lights, which she doesn't seem to care about. Instead, she wants to chew the needles. I thought she'd ignore it, she does know the leave it command, so, I kept telling to leave it alone, but every time I turn my around she's back over there! It’s very frustrating, especially because I’m worried about it making her sick. I know they aren’t necessarily deadly, but obviously I don’t want it irritating her stomach or gums. Maybe I should just keep being persistent. Unfortunately, my mom doesn’t have much patience when it comes to things like this, so, yeah...., Is there a homemade one you can make? I just don’t know why she wants to eat it? We’ll see if my mom can be patient. She’s not really a dog person.
