Anyone have some tips on getting our cat Archie to learn not to jump up on the table/kitchen bench and stop scratching the carpet??? We have tried all we can think of, spray bottle, saying 'no', tapping him on the nose.... He just isn't learning! We have had many cats over the years, and we have stopped these habits. Our other cat Ruffy is very well behaved, he wont get onto the table or kitchen bench, and only uses the scratching post..... Archie is just so thick!

Putting tinfoil around the edges of your counters will help. It's going to be an eyesore, but he should stop jumping up eventually once he learns that the surface is crinkly and loud.

i dont know if you have hear of "scat cat"?
we had the same problem with a kitten years ago until we bought this product. it is a can of air with
a motion detector, when it senses them it will spray them(it'll spray you to though..)
as for the carpet.. is your scratching post carpet or the ropey material?

Its carpet, he does use it but he also like the rug.... with the spray bottle, he seems to not really care any more.... thanks for the suggestion though!

Hey guys, so I could really use some help with Chaos.
He's a little over 10 months old, and we've had him since he was about 9 weeks old.
For the past week or two, he's just been causing a lot more trouble than a normal kitten.
My mother doesn't believe in spraying them with water, and no and a tapping on the nose or rump doesn't seem to do him any good.
He's lately been climbing on top of the door, sitting in people's seats at dinner, jumping on counters, biting, and scratching.
He really never calms down, and I was wondering if anyone knew a way to get him to just relax? I've tried holding him to my chest and petting him, he's always playing and running.. I just don't know what to do, and if he annoys my stepfather anymore with his behavior, we'll have to get rid of him, I'm sure.
He is fixed, if that has a factor.
m o s t l yx q u i t t i n gx c h i c k e n s m o o t h i e !I have been on CS since January 2009, and I think it's time to move on.
I have many fond memories and will still love and cherish the characters I've gained
through closed species, auction, etc. They are my family and will not be going anywhere.
Almost all my pets and all my unlocked items are up for trade for artwork, so if
you are an artist and would love to be commissioned, please send me a message!
I am looking for all sorts of art - feral (canine, feline), humanoid, etc. so feel
free to show me your examples and we can work out something! ^^

I honestly don't know what to tell you XP Maybe he just grew into his name? /shot
Feliway is supposed to help cats stay calm during frightening situations, it could help with him. You can google it ^^
It's like a febreeze plug in but for cats with pheromones.

i have a year old female cat that is alot like this one she has had the same behavior since she was about 6 months.
i don't know what to tell you.. the biting and scratching may just be a phase, thats what most people say.
i recently consulted with the vet about my feline and were having to put her on prozac, she scars us all up
and shes just plain mean.
does yours do what he does in "rounds"?
the vet has also considered that mine might have feline hyperesthezia, "rippling of the skin"
she will run around the house(and into things) with huge eyes and attack, lasting for anywhere
between 5-30 minutes then just fall asleep.

@Flyteck: I'll look into it. Thank you c:
He probably did xD
@Zena~: During his "rounds", he really just runs, maybe plays with a toy here or there but he just runs around the house like a spazz.

spray lemon/orange scent on wherever you don't want him to go near and attack/jump on might work. cats don't like lemon or orange so it might work. cats are sensitive to lemon and orange as well as other citrus fruits and their noses are sensitive. don't declaw your cat, it's like cutting off a human's fingers to the knuckle and it hurts the cat, so buy a scratching post. when a cat smells orange or lemon, it's like having a strong breath mint and inhaling.

They/he. I like video games and music. Straight edge.
