Hrlvos wrote:Hello there!! I just realised that his body looks very short from the angle he's in! (aka, a red cap oranda!) Here's another picture of him : I'm pretty sure he's a comet, but I could be wrong !! .. always been an oddball to me, aha.

And yea !! I've been watching a lot of videos, and research on what plants my goldfish will be less likely to munch on!! I won't mind too much, as it'll be a fun experience haha. (I want to get moss-balls just for him, aha.<3) - I'm going for a low-light planted aquarium for my first one!
and thank you so much for recommending that book!! I'll definitely get it when I can! I'm very enthusiastic with learning about our underwater friends, and providing them with the best care possible!! so thanks again!
can't wait to start posting here more often <33
OOHHH He's a very handsome single tail!!! Definitely looks like a red and white comet! I can't see the angle of the caudal fin, but he looks right!
The book is mainly eggshaped bodies and double tails... but there's a very helpful section on disease and lot's of history on different types! They even give exact dose measurements for different diseases and parasites!
My biggest suggestion for your buddy is when you do get him a friend, try to make sure you get about the same size as him. They aren't terribly aggressive, but it will be hard to keep up with food competition if they vary too much; also try to stick to singletails too! Double tails can't keep up! The best thing though, more room!! The 125g I have has been so much easier to keep for my goldies, than my 55g or 75g! Water quality has been so much easier to maintain. I really wanted to fully plant this tank but my goldfish refuse. -_-' They just tore up the Amazon Sword I had that was 9 years old... just randomly too. They decided to say "Screw this plant you love!!" xD Moss and Anubias do well, my giant sp occasionally gets nibbled but nothing it can't recover from.
I highly recommend a smaller planted tank to 'pre-grow' plants you want, and to put plants that need healing

@StarryEmma Welcome to the goldfish world that is much more complex than people tell you!! One of the best intro sites I have found for goldfish is thegoldfistank.com
Fancies are amazing, but believe it or not, they get big!! Orandas are one of the biggest breeds, and get to be about 7-10 inches from their nose to pedunkle (base of the tail, not their fins) and with great care, even bigger!
Goldfish live a long time too! I hope you enjoy the world of fish keeping, even on the more difficult path, haha!!
Here's a helpful link for getting started!

Oooh my gosh! That face! That is such a brilliant face! >3<
Hrlvos: absolutely gorgeous comet you have there! Such an adorable little face <3
Loving all these goldfish photos <3

December 27th -18, I got some new plants and lights, though I think I still had old lights in this pic.

February 20th -19
(excuse the breeder net, trying to give one female some privacy as she's not 100% well)
I have done some re-arrangement with the plants after the initial set up and one of them unfortunately did not do well in that tank, so that is gone. But growth vise I'm very pleased with them as most of the new plants I got then have either doubled or tripled in size.

The Hygrophila polysperma I have to cut down at least every other week as it keeps reaching the surface. It's been waaay too happy with the new lights basically. : P
'Scape' is still work in progress though as I need to see how those new plants are going to look as they get bigger and fully convert and then I also need to propagate their numbers from cuttings, before I can find them their perfect spots.

This looks fantastic!!!! Are you supplementing with anything?
Thank you. ^^ Macros in NPK form, plus extra nitrogen and potassium as plants seem to be deficient with those two but if I add more NPK to try fix it I end up with too much phosphates which then leads to blue-green algae and hair algae, micros+iron from one bottle (Easylife Profito) plus root tabs for the lotus corner/side and sword at the back (which is kinda tiny and not visible in the pic) and occasionally for others as well, and DIY CO2 to top it off. So kinda lot.

I have very low stocked tank, so I really need to add nitrogen at very least from the macros.

considering getting a new tank exclusively for my betta fish. Since I added him into the tank he's in now, 15 gallon, he doesn't seem to be doing as well as I hope he would be doing.

I went to the pet store to buy a shrimp, and they had some very tiny (like 1mm long) baby shrimp at the bottom of the tank. The worker let me have a little scoop of them for free! I'm not sure if they'll make it or not, but theres two black ones and two clear ones.

Does anyone have any tips or advice about feeding parrot fish? Specifically blood red or purple parrots? I have a male who is about 2 or 3 years old who is having trouble keeping food inside his beak and even throat.
I was thinking of hand feeding or syringe feeding him, but I was wondering what foods and/or methods might be best? Thank you for any help, guys!

That's so awesome of them! Tiny baby shrimp survive much better than even adults in a new tank. I bought a couple super fancy ones once and there were two tiny baby hitchhiker's. All but one of the adults died but both babies survived and are still thriving in my tank
