Wild axolotl's are critically endangered and exclusively live in Lake Xochimilco in Mexico. For a while they were so rare they were feared extinct. It's very unlikely they're in your garden pond even if you live in Mexico City. Unless you or someone else released some.
Baby tiger salamanders have frills too. Probably other things, we don't know much about various salamanders.
The snails most likely laid eggs.
Snails are harmless and beneficial in a planted tank. As long as you don't overfeed their population should stay under control.
If you really want them gone then physically remove any you see and set up some snail traps. You could also consider an assassin snail but then you might end up overrun with them instead.
What catfish do you have? Most are too big to live in a 5 gallon.
thank you! i feel horrible because i really can't remember what catfish i have. they are a clearish grey with 2 black striped down the sides. i remember the lady at the fish store telling me they don't get bigger than about 1 inch, though... (i have short term memory loss im so sorry)

c: Don't worry about it. If you could get a photo someone would be able to identify it.
In general it's a good idea to do your own research before you get any fish unless you know your store is awesome. Sometimes fish stores are amazing and know exactly what they're talking about and are really helpful, sometimes they'll try to sell you a goldfish for a bowl.
You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night

Just popping in with a very quickly question
Ive just been watching a new snail that has somehow appeared in my axolotl tank, and realised there are hundreds of tiny white things in the tank too. They look like tiny shrimp or this sea monkey things or something. Anyone know where the might have come from? Also is the axolotl likely to eat them?

deadroses. wrote:small question; people have been saying hat betta fish can eat live ants and I don’t think it’s good for them. Opinions??
Bettas can eat insects. Small ants would be fine, the only risk would be if they were exposed to things like pesticides or fertilisers.

just to add on to this, i sometimes feed my betta fruit flies or gnats that i catch. they are a tasty treat for him, but shouldn't be a staple :)

I really need the help of anyone on here!!
My axolotl has been getting really sick recently, and her gills have lost almost all ogf the frond bits. She's now refusing food, hardly moving and coming up to the surface quite often. Her tail is also a bit curly.
I went to the store to get the water tested, and they said it was all fine. However the woman suggested I put her in the fridge for five minutes just to cool her down and start the healing and then to put her straight back into the tank.
Is this a good idea? It seems like it could stress her out a bit more to do it for such a short time, and I still have no answer to what is actually causing the problems. Please help!
