Well, nevermind the species specific thing. Just found one of the guppies dead. :( I have betta juvies in this tank. They are the ones I'm most worried about. But I don't know what to treat anybody with if I were to move them to a hospital tank. Maybe it could be columnaris?

Someone I know bought a bunch of female mollies and now she is over run with babies so I am going to take them. I am also going to be cleaning her aquariums :D . Any advice on keeping Mollies and good tank mates? I thought about getting Mollies before but never really looked into it after I found out that they need salt.

Hey. I just sort of wanted to join 2.0 ;3

I have a goldfish named Jackson, and if he lives to May 15th, he will have lived in our household for 1 year! C: He's only one of those 25 cent goldfish, but my mom figured out how to take care of him really well, so he's been living a long time so far.

I've been begging my grandma for a new fish, but I don't know if she will let me. If so, what kind of fish should I get?

...1 year is not a long time at all for a goldfish. They can live 25+ years, the oldest was 43 when it passed. How big has he gotten? I've heard the first couple of years its not uncommon for these guys to grow an inch to half an inch every month. :D

As for other fish.. What size tank do you have/are you willing to get? Tropical or coldwater?
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

I have cycled both my 5 gallon betta tank and my 2.45 gallon snail tank. But both of those tanks have filters on them and i stole media from my goldie tank, i also fed my snail tank with a lot of fish food, i had to use the betta to cycle the tank caz my brother could not wait to get him . Your tank wont cycle without a filter like they said. If you want to go without a filter(i dont advise it) use a lot of plants. I would use a sponge filter, they work well if you are just going to have a betta in the tank. All tanks risk losing a cycle if not fed, you can feed it ammonia from a bottle or fish food. The fish food will break down into ammonia.

Hmm wonder if they are actually cycled all the time, but yea you said you have a filter so there is the difference.
I know a lot of people don't have filters on tanks this small cause they don't fit well. For goldfish I can see it being important, but betta's bioload is fairly small in comparison, hense why they can survive in those wretched bowls XD I don't think I will cause I mean it doesn't really need it; nor will it fit well and I refuse to go to an undergravel filter |D I clean my tanks often enough the ammonia doesn't build up and test it regularly and I do have plants in there. I also don't feed my fish cheap food nor do I overfeed which is more of a cause of ammonia than the fish is so I think I will be just fine without a filter. But to be safe I will go and ask on the betta site if I need help, they seem to know what they are talking about. Thanks anyway for the thoughts

I check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate either weekly or twice a week. I also check it when the inhabitants are acting off. So far the tanks have stayed cycled. :)
Its up to you if you want a filter, if you can keep the water quality good and keep up water changes then go for it. I like the safety a filter adds. I can skip a water change if I need to since I'm under stocked in my tanks(luckily I don't need to). Whatever route you decide to go down good luck and enjoy your fishy friend. :3

@toboe
Ugh! That stinks, I hope you figure it out. Sorry I cant offer more help. :(

So I moved the snails to the 10 gallon QT tank to eat the calcium off of the walls for awhile. I want to make sure I don't run into problems before I get a new fish. But I'm going to start looking around for a Panda Oranda after I get the gravel taken out of my tank.

Oh god great dafq. I'm down to 16 goldfish *grim face*. The small ones died. The ones I got recently. Like, two weeks ago x3. One juve, he was still brownish. Another speckled-stomach adult. Argh, no fun DX cannot find my snails. And they are eating my newly-bought plants' roots! I put them in a plastic pot, but since their floating, they just floated awaay…

*very pissed off*

If there's anything to take notes off is never let your parents do 100% water changes. They forget to put in enough water dechlorinator. And clean excess food.

And I just HATE it when my parents turn off the filter for the night x.e

Crazy idea. Put the snails in a tank with the java moss x3 not gonna happen.

And I was right. It' better having a pond rather than a 5g aquarium. You clean a pond once a month.

i gave two pairs of guppies to a friend who had a 50 gal. tall octogon tank (freshwater) and she had mollies and tetras and two itty bitty plecos also and one female guppy died so she had two males and one female and she put the female in a breeding trap and three of those babys looked just like their father a marble (black and white) molly and she gave me two of them when she took her tank down so have any of you guys had any experince with a cross bred fish?

I highly doubt the molly is the father. They are two different species and I doubt they are able to cross breed.

D=

I sleep at my fiances house on my nights off (i work overnights), and when i came home this morning, it was 59* in my room!!! My dog must have knocked the cord to the heater and it turned off =( I've cranked it back up to 80* but im worried for my fishies now =( the spawning tubs have heaters but the individual fish dont because my room is always at 80*. Im so mad! I just bought 2 new fishies, i hope they make it too! I feel like temperatures are my downfall right now =(

Ill post pictures later, gonna keep a close eye on my tanks for now. Fingers crossed that all pull through!
