Had some fun today and made Rudy a new cage. I got 2 pretty well-sized cages and connected them with a tunnel (note to self: I'm not that good at using drills or wire cutters). Anyways, he seems to be a fan and is having lots of fun going back and forth.

      ^^ Cage designing is always great fun. Hopefully, he enjoys his new cage!

      Welcome! I really miss cage designing, especially after a deep clean, with my rats. The best part of cleaning was always setting up the new cage. I loved to mix it up and throw in some new toys, hammocks, etc. It was always fun watching them explore the new.

Speaking of hammocks.. I think I'm gonna try sewing my own again, but I always end up with bloody fingers, haha.
Also, my girls always chewed their hammocks? I couldn't go a week without there being a few new holes in the straps and I needed to take it out. Even with wood blocks, willow sticks, and various cardboard toys. Does anyone else have issues with the chewing of hammocks?

      @Drift.
      How often do you let the girls out their cage and do they have enough mental stimulation? Do they chew anything else as much when you remove the hammock completely out of the cage? Some toys just don't do it from the wide range of personality types. Sometimes they chew because of low mental stimulation other times they chew because they just want to. Some behaviours are harder to train out than others, and other times you just can't train it out.

I wish my girls were even interested in their Hammocks. I have 4 in their cage and Unless I couch em onto it with food, they don't go near them :(

      Seconding this. Though, I also had one boy, Templeton who would chew a hole in his hammocks to hide and sleep in between the sewn fabric, even with one specific hammock already pouch in it for him to burrow into. Templeton was a chewer, it was just who he is.

      Hmm, that's strange. Rats usually love to hide in hammock and burrow in them, and they love to climb. Maybe invest in some hanging cubes or hammocks with pouches for them to burrow in. Where do they sleep?

They have a Huge rat highway with 4 separate Pouches, a 4 tier Honeycomb hammock, 2 Normal hammock, a Cube and a Hammock tunnel thing. They sleep in their Box or in their Wooden hide. They hate the hammocks so much. theres 8 girls and not one of them use it.

did anyone else give their rats yoggies? mine would go nuts.

I loved when my chubby rat, Viola, would sleep in her hammock. It was like a warm rat burrito!
