How long have they been in it?
Just give them some time to settle in and they'll probably end up enjoying it. c:

Y'know what? I'm so done.

@ Nok

You haven't been posting anywhere near enough pictures of your boys!
God, Isaac has such unique markings, I'm such a sucker for unique marks XD Styles just reminds me s much of Tanka, never seen another dark-eyed white, or what-ever they actually are, so its weird seeing another rat that looks so much like her XD But in a good way, it's one of my favourite colourings.
Sasha has grown so much! I'm sure the last picture you posted of him, he was still a baby.

Also...did you say hairless rats?

Image
Yes, there's pophryin around his eye. His eyes are extremely sensitive.

@ Snail

Not 100% decided yet, but I'm heavily leaning towards Phoenix.
Had sooo many names swirling round my head lately (new pigs + new cousin, with awesome name) that I think my name-decisiveness skills have been killed off XD
Plus, the little bugger came to me with mites, and was covered in scabs, which are now all drying up & going black, and taking forever to drop off, so he's just getting called Scabbers at the minute XD

What are everyone's favorite rodent colors?

GPs-
furries: anything roan/dalmation, and himalayans. Any kind of unique markings. Also have a huge soft spot for tricolours & greys/silvers.
skinnies: dalmations. Hands down. Gimmie a dal skinny any day XD

Hams-
Black tort & white. Black dom. spots/banded. Or anything tort. Huge soft spots for heterochromic cinnie bandeds, & black selfs.

Rats-
Furry: anything blue, beige hooded, siamese, husky, any kind of unique markings.
Sphinx: Whatever Hazelle was. Or anything with markings. I'll have to see if I have a picture of her babies, after the markings came through. They'd have been so pretty.

Chins-
Ebony, mosaics, or white.

Mice-
Furry: siamese, black/tan, beige, any unique markings
Hiarless: any kind of markings XD

Yeah haha they'd been in it about an hour, went from 300 sq inch tank to 600sq inch open bar cage they only weigh about 15-20grams so they're not big mice, just the sudden open space had them spooked a bit, they soon explored and one of them just loves to climb! It was just weird to see something so small have such a drastic personality change when taming was going so well!

Question to mice owners/breeders for my friend. I don't own mice, but she was wondering how many mice (females) she could comfortably keep in a 55gal tank.

It depends on the girls themselves, but about 8.

I disagree, I'd say 5

Heres a cage calculator:
http://www.thefunmouse.com/info/cagecalculator.cfm

it says 8 as well
but like I said, it depends on the females themselves. mine do better in bigger groups

it says 8 as well

It also says minimum, bigger groups have a higher cancemof falling out and no animal should be kept in the minimum or in an overcrowded enclosure

I know, it says:
Please note that this is set forth as a minimum.
More space is greatly encouraged! Why provide your mice the minimum #? Go with more ;). It's not a contest to see how many will fit.
* TFM doesn't recommend 5g tanks (or their equivalent in floor space for any habitat) for long term use by pet caregivers.
* Housing more than 2 dozen mice together, no matter the size of the habitat, isn't recommended.

This calculator supports your average sized pet shop fancy mouse, weighing around 25 grams. Larger mice *need* more floor space than an average pet shop fancy. Click here to see the size difference (mouse pictured on left is 60g, mouse on right is 25g). Additionally, the calculator only takes into account the average activity level of a fancy mouse. Some mice are less active and some more. More active mice *need* more space. This calculator is only presented to you for a rough idea of mice per square inch of floor space. You still *must* use your judgment because mouse personalities do play a large roll in tank size.
