Sigh, gave mom $50 to get a big bag of evo from the local mom&pop store and she came back with two bags of Taste of the Wild saying she'd saved me money. At least she didn't buy a whole bunch of Meow Mix... Have beaten my requirements for food into her head and currently she thinks Saff is allergic to corn and can't have anything that doesn't have meat in the first line of ingredients (she can, she just gets fat and sheds everywhere so I told her to never buy the above food). Only reason I sent her is because I don't have a car and 15lbs of cat food is currently not going to fit between my handlebars on my bike lol.

~krista~ wrote:I feed my dog blue buffalo's wilderness (no grain) formula. It's great. It took some convincing to show my mom it is worth it. My cats also eat blue buffalo, but not the grain free type. Their stomachs are more sensitive so its harder for them to transition foods.

It took some time to convince my mom that a higher quality food was worth it as well, and that raw meaty bones would be much better treats for them then the crap you buy at the pet stores. But now months after switching I think she's extremely happy we switched too, even if its more expensive. The dogs shed less, look better, feel better, and even their stool is better, lol.

And @Jazi; it is a pain having parents get pet food xD I don't have a car either, though hopefully I will have one soon... so I've been asking my mom to get pet food when she goes out. Luckily she knows what to get now but she has gotten meow mix for my cats before, and some other crappy brand that I can't remember the name of. This was all when we first started switching though.

It took me little to no time to convince my father that it was good for my dog to eat Blue Buffalo food.
I mean, it's super duper expensive, but I think it's worth it... Sadly, he refuses to get my cats the same brand of food.. Pity.

I recently was able to persuade my parents to switch our cats and dogs to EVO. The cats are already noticeably eating and pooping less, and their coats are softer and don't shed as much. My Boston terrier is a pig and will eat however much we give her, so that hasn't changed, but she's been doing pretty well on it. My medium size elderly mutt actually seems to really like EVO and has started eating more (which is a good thing) and doing very well. The only problem has been that we switched them suddenly rather than mixing the food to prevent shocking their systems, so they cats have had intermittent upset stomachs and the dogs have had some gas, but it's getting better, and once they get adjusted to the food, I'm sure it will go away on its own.

you know beggin strips? the #1 ingredient is wheat or corn something and they don't contain bacon meat, just fat. YUM! also, they taste completely awful. I have found Milk bone products to be pretty good as far as ingredients go. they also taste really good.

also, I usually make our own dog food. all the kibbles and everything, so we know exactly what goes in it. they are safe for humans, also.

The things the pet food companies put in their foods is unbelievable. I read something by Rebecca Hosking about this, and she said,

'In North America, ‘mammalian meat and bone meal’, a key animal component in pet food, has been shown to include the ground-up remains of euthanised cats and dogs – flea collars, name tags, microchips and all.'

But of course they're not going to tell us that, are they? It's just disgusting.

My parents will give our dogs moist & meaty dog food and other brands of the same thing as treats, and the other month I looked at the ingredients. The first ingredient is soy bean meal. The second ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. I knew it probably wasn't all that healthy, but I had no idea it was basically dog candy. No wonder they like it so much.

:P I'm glad they followed through with it. Are they also seeing the changes and planning to commit to a more expensive food?

A friend/roommate of mine has a cat that can only eat wet food and she had gotten two different answers from the vet (same vet as mine)... the actual vet told her to switch her cat to a better wet food, the assistant tried to get her to switch from Fancy Feast to Science Diet. My friend approached me because she knows I feed Saffy EVO and I showed her how to tell the difference between good food and bad food for cats. She now feeds her cat EVO wet and has noticed an improvement in attitude, coat, and appetite even though her cat is less please with EVO than she was with Fancy Feast. She's also having the runs a lot less, a common occurrence when she was on Fancy Feast, and she fills up faster. The cans are several times more expensive but her cat only eats 1/4 of the cans every day so it evens out.

I wish we could afford to feed our cats a better quality food but we just cant right now. They get dry food (kibble/biscuits whatever you want to call it) in the morning and wet food in the evening. They are both very healthy and have never had any problems.Theyve had this routine pretty much all their lives (since they were rescued by the RSPCA at 8 months old, and befre that they were strays so no one really knows if they were born into a home or not) and they seem to like it. They get meat when we have a roast and have left overs but not regularly.

Id just like t point out that we dont feed them IAMs incase anyone wondered.
