I need some help and google isn't really helping me right now unu

This is basically my first time owning a betta whom I've owned for 5 months now. I had a few when I was little that my parents cared for but with further research I learned the way they cared for bettas wasn't exactly the right way. They used to have our bettas in small bowls with a small amount of pebbles. Rarely cleaned their tanks and did 100% water changes. Since I am now the owner and person in charge of caring for my betta, I want to make sure I am giving him a happy and healthy life. I got him a 2.5 gallon tank that has a filter, a castle, pebbles, decorations and a thermometer. I also clean his tank once a week at least 40% of it.

My betta was sick and he kept getting sick in his tank (2.5 gallons). I cleaned it 40%, once a week. The filter broke so I don't know if that's another reason...

Anyway, late last night he was super pale in his tank. I went to feed him but he wouldn't eat it. So I moved him to the cup I bought him in just for the night so I could clean his tank in the morning. I woke up this morning and he was blue again, making bubbles (which he hasn't done in his bigger tank) and when I fed him, actually eating. Is it possible he likes his small area better? His bigger tank has a castle (which he likes to sleep in), two little plants, a betta bed leaf and pebbles. Also a thermometer which he likes to swim around.

Any reason why he is happier in his small tank? Everything I read said bettas need a 2.5 gallon tank or bigger for them to thrive. So basically my question is, is it normal for bettas to be happier in a smaller tank?

My betta is so much happier in his bowl. He used to have a 5 gallon that was fully cycled, heated correctly, cleaned every week, decorated with his own little plants(ones that won't rip his tail), hut, and hammock, but he would always hide, never blew bubble nests and ripped up his tail. The water was always clean and even the filter has a gentle flow, but for some reason he just HATED it. I put him in a (largish) bowl with a little hammock now and stopped ripping his tail and blows bubble nests all the time. I clean the bowl with 100% water change every week and he seems totally fine. I worry about it getting cold since I can't heat the bowl but the room its in is at 78 degrees and doesn't change that much.

One thing I've noticed is that bettas display a lot of variation in their behavior between individuals.

I have a little veiltail in a 10 gallon tank, filtered, heated, and cycled.

He is very active and vibrant.
However, before he was mine, his previous owner had him in a little 1/4 gallon cylinder. He was actually quite active and vibrant there.

If the filter broke (and was cycled), bacteria would have died when the flow of water stopped. As they decomposed, there may have been a nitrogen spike which caused the symptoms.

If you can, try testing the water quality weekly. Sometimes having that early warning can tell a lot about the system.

Okay guys. Something weird is happening. So, in the last year, I have lost three corys, at different times, one in a different tank, in the same way. So, my first cory I lost was called Dakota, a little boy. The second, Robin, also a boy. The third, Denver, too young to tell.
Dakota (Kota)= The first one to go, he had a large hole in his side, almost all the way through. I asked my psychic/medium teacher about her, and she said it was something in the tank. So, I went through and removed anything that could potentially be sharp. I thought it wouldn't happen again.
Robin= The second one, also had a large hole in his side, digging deep into the gill area. I removed all the gravel, when I uncovered a rusted staple. I have cleaned that tank a million times, and there was nothing in it. I got out the staple, and tried to save him, failing.
Denver= I had him in the 10 gallon, but the guppies were being really mean to him, so I put him in with the guppy fry, as he was only an inch long. There was nothing sharp in the tank, but yesterday when I woke up, it looked like somebody had taken a scalpel and cut a clean line down her side. She also had three marks on her belly, as if somebody with extremely small fingers had grabbed her really hard. Today when I found her dead, the wound had gotten down to her bone, and she was bloated and pure red (she was albino). It looked like an artery had been cut.
I'm really scared... What do I do, guys?

If the filter broke and you didn't replace it then the cycled most likely crashed causing spikes of ammonia which would be why he was acting miserable. If the water in the cup was clean that could be why he's feeling better in it c: Some bettas do like smaller tanks than others, but a cup is not a suitable home for any. And some of the time it's a problem with feeling exposed in a larger tank rather than the larger space itself. Bettas are from areas with dark water, loads of vegetation and plenty of hiding places. If they're in a massive and mostly empty tank they're going to be more nervous than if they're in a smaller but busier tank.
Get a new filter as soon as possible and do extra water changes in the bigger tank to see if it makes him feel better. If it'll fit, keep the older filter media in the tank then put it put in the new filter so you don't have to completely cycle all over again. Cut a piece off and put it in the new filter if it won't.
c: Hopefully he feels better soon

If cories are getting holes in them like that, it isn't from something sharp in the tank.
What else is living in the tank? Do you have a cat, perchance?

Can I get my form on the member list updated? My fish and tank count has changed.

The guppies seem to have worked out their differences c: They're schooling happily now with no biting. And some exciting news: One of the males mated with the new female! I love watching them, I can do it for hours cx He did the whole courtship dance and everything. He's a gorgeous male and Tigerlily (the female) is definitely the prettiest guppy I've ever had, so I'm sure they'll have some lovely offspring.

I just came home to find out something horrible, all eight of the goldfish in our pond died. The water level went down a lot last night, this morning I a noticed it and told my mom before leaving for school but it was already too late. The three plecos survived somehow, I have no idea how all three of them survived but none of the goldfish. The pond has a small crack in im pretty sure that's why water went down, we are going to fill it in as soon as possible. I looked at the one goldfish and none of them seemed to have any sort of desease. My mom mentioned that a few of the goldfish had torn fins. Has anyone had any problems with have a pleco attack a goldfish before?

Also please ignore any mistakes in my writing I'm a bit flustered and sad about the sudden death of all my goldfish

Today my last two goldfish decided to fight and now one has a torn fin. And the fight was completely out of the blue, do you guys have any idea why? The only thing i can think of is food since both of them are greedy, or the fact that i'm pretty sure they're both males. My older goldfish has been in the tank since i got it, and hes never attacked any other fish before because of how timid he is. What do i do guys?
