I recently went to our city's animal shelter and adopted a cat. I wasn't sure how well it was going to work out since my dad has a really hyper Doberman, and it's currently staying with me. The two seem to get along well, but I'm a little worried because I'm not quite sure how long it will last. The cat is going to the vet tomorrow (he's getting fixed) and I'm not sure if this will affect the way he acts around the dog.

In my experience I've never noticed any significant personality/temperament change after a cat is neutered other than decreased cat-on-cat aggression (mainly in males), which I can only see as a good thing.

honestly the only difference I see when cats get fixed is they become a lot calmer and less aggressive like PeachFuzz said

To be fair, most of the people in my village are elderly (70s+) so I'm not sure if they'd steal my cat, but you never know...

I haven't really noticed a change in neutered tom's personalities. They seem the same, to me. I think it depends on the individual. Lenney was neutered and was quite aggressive towards other cats, and got into a few fights here and there, but Arty is also neutered and doesn't care about other cats, has never gotten into a fight etc.
So, your cat's personality shouldn't change too much. Of course, if you notice a decline in his health/behaviour, contact a vet as soon as possible. But there shouldn't be a drastic change, if any. Good luck
