My eldest cat, Albus, seems to think that TEARING UP THE SCREEN DOOR is the way to get let in.
He's nearly ripped half the mesh off the door and we cannot afford another one at this point in time, and the door itself is in a terrible state because of him. We know that if we don't let him in, he'll continue to tear up the door, so we have to let him in. Now he thinks that whenever he wants to come in, he'll just tear up the door. And we can't stop him. At all. Even spraying or giving him a soft slap on the shoulders won't stop him, and we can't just ignore him...

Why do you let him out if he just keeps wanting in, just keep him in and play with him. Give him stuff to do to keep him entertained indoors. You could also build a catio to put him for awhile or train him to take a harness.
Also never punish a cat smacking and spraying with water is cruel and not needed, you trained the behavior by opening the door when he did it and its going to take awhile to untrain if you can at all. Just keep him in doors and find some way to keep him happy.

He's not just an inside cat. Half the time he's in, half the time he's out. We tried not to just open the door when he first started doing it, but he just continued to tear at the door until at one point, we'd have to open the door if we wanted to keep the door at all. Albus is... strange to say the least. He doesn't like collars or harnesses or likewise, and if we wants to be played with, he'll play with you. If not, he'll hide. So we can't just drag him around in a harness whenever we feel like it. We have another cat that he can tussle and play with, and they do but... it's really stuck. We're trying to get him to resort to different ways of letting us know when he wants to be let in. It kinda confused me, because our other cat doesn't tear at the door. He just screams till we let him in. Albus isn't gonna learn. At all. He's stubborn, lazy and not very good with change.

Hello, I have just discovered this thread!
I own two male cats from a shelter, one 3 and 4 months (Turbo), and the other turning 8 in October (Nos)! I find it funny how they were named after cars. Turbo is a little ginger kitty and Nos is a grey/white cat. He's quite big! If there are any tips on how to travel with cats I'd love to hear them. Of course, they'd be in a cage on a seat. I don't usually travel with them, but there is a chance that a move may be happening soon (it'll only be by car for around an hour). Thanks in advance! cx

Well alot of people around here just feed and take in any cats that they see on the street. (Which is slightly annoying because people also have outside cats..like me..)
Also, this is my outside cat.
So its kind of weird because no matter how much we feed her she always looks slim and is very lightweight. She is very agile and slightly old. She had kittens before we got her (two litters) and now shes spayed. When we give her food she limits how much she eats.
Kee Kee (or Ki Ki) ( I call her Kitty.) is VERY VERY affectionate. She knows to come when shes called!

Just had the cat carrier delivered to us! It's red and black, has a see-through mesh door and a fleece part on the bottom. It's foldable so that it doesn't rust like all our other cat carriers (which were those plastic ones). We need to take Arty to the vet for his jabs and since the others are pretty old, we need a carrier just in case we have any emergencies, which hopefully, we won't.
Last time we took Arty in the car, it was bringing him home from the rescue center <3
He's not going to like the vet's, I can just tell. He hates being cuddled unless he says so (too embarrassing, haha) so I reckon the vet is going to end up with lots of scratches.
I'm already feeling sorry for the vet x3

Small rant +story of outdoor cats ahead........
I went to see my granny today. Long drive trough the city. At one point I passed tram tracks (kind of like train tracks for those who don't know), and there was a cat lying right on the tram tracks.
And this isn't even a place where strays are usually seen. And the cat looked so beautiful, clearly brushed well and very clean for a cat lying on the ground (it was long haired and bright white as far as I could see, what if it's even deaf?? I didn't notice if it had a collar or not, but most people here don't use them). And it just.. breaks my heart. That cat could have died, as he was lying on the tracks right after a sharp turn. There is no way the tram could stop in time if they suddenly noticed the cat just lying there.
I just don't understand how people can live with themselves when they put their beloved pets in such danger. It's a beautiful neighborhood, with few cars and a nice park nearby, but there's still so many dangers. I sincerely hope nothing happened to that cat, as the trams come every 7 minutes or so, but I guess I'll never know. It really just solidifies my views on never letting my cats outside unattended. As much as this neighborhood is "nice" and calm and whatnot, I could never put them in any sort of danger like that.

We have the same thing in Russia , even if I don't let my cat out of the house , I still see a bunch of people (Mostly kids) being like hunters , grabbing the cat and taking it home . That's very annoying for me as well .
I think the your outside cat had kittens so maybe she is now lightweighted ? Not sure though .
My dad has a bunch of cats in his working place , he feeds them . I was there like a week ago and they are so awesome ! Both cats are black one girl that is a mom of the other black cat . My dad said she found a kitten that survived there gaurd dogs , and the cat took care of him , he is scared of everything even me ! Although I am a really loving person to cats .
