Chappie dog food, just like Science Diet, is another one of those dog foods that the dog food companies pay the vets to say good things about and to recommend to their patients.
This x 100. One of the reasons I love my new vet is, if you ask her about food, she'll give her personal opinion and make sure you know it's her opinion, and that she's not an expert on nutrition. The only foods her office stocks are a few hypoallergenic brands, but even then, she'll refer you to the "ridiculously expensive dog food store"(as I like to call it, lol,) to talk to the shop owner, who is a breeder and has certifications in something nutritionally related. I mean, yeah, I assume a vet has to know something about nutrition, but when your practice sees more than just one specific type of animal, it can get kinda hard to keep everything straight.
Dog's doing well on his new food. I did what mixing I could on the TOTW vs new food, and tried to pad out his kibble diet with other foods he's used to, to keep his tummy from freaking too much about the change. So far, so good, no soft poopies, and he's not stinking. Definitely have decided I'm not going back to TOTW, This may be my first experience with a recall from them, but it seems like it's not the first time Diamond has had to recall food for this type of issue. My mum's been feeding Performatrin(a different variety) for about 10 years now, and has never experienced a recall. Looks like a fair few people are getting sick because of this, too, makes me so much happier that the recall happened before I opened the new bag of food.
Sticking with a grain free diet for him, because it really does help with his runny eyes. Think I'm sticking with the Performatrin for now, even though I can't find any information on any analysis sites. Lots for Performatrin in general, but not for the Performatrin Ultra Grain Free Formula. If this doesn't work, I might give Orijen a try, but I'm worried I'll have the same problem with it as I did with Acana(apparently close to the same formula). Still looking for more suggestions as to what to look into as far as food goes.
