As onew said. I believe the thread owner has even said its fine to debate civilly, and I know plenty of the mini mods have participated.

There's a difference between saying no wolf haters and no debating. I love wolves, obviously, but own plenty of pelts and wouldn't mind hunting one one day. Why? Because hunting wolves is no different than hunting any other non-endangered animals. Animals are my life but that doesn't mean I by default have to dislike hunting, especially when it is helping animals far more than harming them.

The north american grey wolf is not endangered, threatened, or anywhere near extinction. It was endangered at one point, but is no longer.

If we did not hunt them now, they would...

1) kill each other or starve because there are too many of them.
2) encroach on farms where they would be shot and killed anyway.
3) not have a healthy fear of humans and would attack people and get killed.
4) the price of pelts would be very expensive and it would encourage poaching.

Here's how you're able to hunt a wolf.

1) you have to pay for the highest degree of hunting permit (all proceeds go to protecting the animals.)
2) you have to enter in a "lottery" to be able to hunt this creature. you pay for a ticket and maybe you're chosen, maybe you're not. all proceeds go to protecting the animal.
3) once you have the permit to hunt the wolf, you are limited to only a specific type... ie "in this area you can only hunt adolescent males and you can only get ONE of them"

So it's far more controlled than just going out and shooting them. In fact, if you do, you get fined and in my state you GO TO PRISON!

I fully support the protection of wolves and I am a wolf lover myself. But so is everyone else here c:
Onew only said that as a reminder of how most people represent loving wolves- disappointing and true. That was not their honest opinion or true words, just an example.

basically was zrcarlo said. wolf hunting is actually extremely beneficial to the wolves. :] with only regulated hunting it's very unlikely [grey] wolves will go extinct.

I do not think that, personally, about wolves at all. I love wolves-- I used it was a comparison. Wolves kill animals for food, so do humans. It's even been documented that wolves have killed animals and abandoned most, if not all of their carcass-- which is considered poaching and is a legal offense if a human was to do this to animals.
