    Hi everyone! I’m new to this thread but I figured it might be helpful when it comes to my newest little poofball that I’ll be adding to my little family. I have two cats, a black long haired male name Oliver (he’s my baby who is also SUPER good with other cats so long as they’re smaller then he or start out smaller) then there is my little baby girl, Venus, she’s a tortie very playful and cuddly, but takes quite a bit of time to get use to other cats. Well, the kitten below will be joining my little family once he’s old enough to leave momma (in about two weeks) he’s the fattest of his siblings, being nearly twice the size of his other five siblings.

    I for the life of me cannot figure out what to name him! I was wondering if you guys might be able to shoot some suggestions about what a I should name him??

    I’m currently juggling a few name ideas such as; Hamilton (Ham for short), Sebastian (Bash or Bastian for short), Newton (Newt for short ((really like this one for some reason))), Felix, Scott/y, Otis (his twin is named Milo), Angus (since he’s such a piggy), Cozmo ... I have a lot of names I just don’t know which would be more fitting for him

Awwww, he's so adorable! ;u;
I think Newton or Cozmo would suit him really well. c:

There's a very good chance I'll be getting a cat soon, and there's some things I need to know:

1: How can you teach a cat to be friendly towards other animals? Specifically guinea pigs and hamsters

2: We have fish tanks that the cat could easily get to, how can we make sure that the cat doesn't mess with the tanks or try to kill/eat the bettas? This would be a major problem because me and my mom love the fish and losing them would be horrible

1. Introducing a predatory animal like a cat to prey animals like rodents is a bit tricky. A cat's natural instinct is to hunt, so breaking them away from that takes some effort. I would suggest introducing the cat to them while they're in their cages first, so that it can smell them but not hurt them. Reward good behavior around the rodents with treats. After that, and I can't really say how long it will be until they're all accustomed to each other (if they ever will be, unfortunately), you can take one of the rodents out and introduce the cat to it while you're holding it. If the cat looks like it might attack (widening of the eyes, flattened ears, swishing tail, etc.) then immediately put it back in the cage. Ask a friend or family member if they can help out by giving the cat treats or playing with it while the rodent is outside of the cage, so that the cat will be less interested in the rodent. Honestly, this whole process is a lot easier with a kitten, so if you're really keen on having a cat that's cool with other animals, look into getting a kitten.
Edit: I really do agree more with what Thalassic said below me, honestly. What I mentioned above is just what you would do if you wanted to be able to have them all in the same room, but it really is safest to just keep them separate. I keep my gecko in my room with the door closed for that very reason.

2. You can buy or make lids for the tanks so that the cat can't stick their paws in. From my experience, cats tend to lose interest in fish tanks fairly quickly once they figure out they can't get into them. If for some reason your cat doesn't lose interest and tries to sit on top of the tank with the lid on (like mine does with my gecko tank...) then you can buy these double-sided sticky strips (they're actually made for wall edges) and stick them on the lid so that the cat will get its paws stuck on the strips when it jumps up. Cats hate when their paws stick to things, so it should deter them pretty effectively.

For the safety of all your animals I'd highly recommend separating the other animals from the cat, at least while nobody is around. Being around a predator can be extremely stressful for guinea pigs and hamsters and accidents can easily happen. And I'm sure you wouldnt want any of them to get hurt or worse so if you do get a cat, keep the rodents in a room where the cat is not allowed to go and only take them out of the room if the cat is in another room.

As for the fish, make sure the tanks are not in a place where the cat could push it off (and I've seen my cat push a massive flowerpot off a table, so really don't underestimate them) and ideally where the cat could not jump on it, or otherwise reach the actual water. In general keeping them out of reach for the cat would be best as they will be attracted by the movement of the fish and might try to attack, which could at the very least be stressful to them.

I found this page, it should help you figure out what's wrong. My best guess is that you might have clipped too close to the quick, causing some inflammation. Just keep an eye on them, if he shows any discomfort or the claws start to look worse, make an appointment with your vet.

What exactly does catnip do to cats? Mine gets really weird and “drunk” but I’ve seen different reactions in other cats. Does it not effect all cats or can some just handle it better?

The name Izaya seems fitting, You could always look at baby name websites or something like that. Good luck!
