Say, if wolves went extinct, we would have a larger number of other animals because wolves no longer hunted them down in some regions. I respect the opinions of others, though that is mine.

Not even that. On 'Dogs Decoded', they proved that you cannot domesticate a wolf from a pup. They took in newborn dogs, and taught them how to be dogs. They turned out dogs. They took in newborn wolves, and taught them how to be dogs. They acted like any normal wolf.

Any predator can be dangerous, wolves are no exception, eventhough they are far more trustworthy than say a tiger or bear, there is no record of someone being killed by their pet wolf. Wolf hybrids have killed people, and scientists have proved that it is because of the dog that is in them, taking away most of their natural uncertainty of humans, causing them to be bolder and sometimes more aggressive.

If one were to keep a wolf as a pet, that animal would need upmost companionship and respect, it would be unfair to have one wolf alone, you would have to be dedicated and understanding enough to keep a pack if you were to really keep it happy.

ORLY? From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_attacks_on_humans :
'Child, 2, male; 1981; Ft. Wayne, Michigan. Lone wolf kept as a pet.'
'Alyshia Berzyck, 3, female; June 3, 1989; Minnesota. Killed by a pet wolf on a chain.'
'Unknown child; 1978 Wheatland, Wyoming. Lone wolf kept as a pet.'

I'm sure there's more, but I did this rather quickly.

This woman kept nine wolf-dogs and since they reverted to pack mentality, they bit the hand that fed them and killed her. http://www.phillyfuture.org/node/3877

And not about the quote but about wolf-dogs:

A wolf-dog also killed a five-year-old in Cincinnati. http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2000/1 ... kills.html
As the news article says, 'The wildlife expert, however, said the child's death comes as no surprise; these types of accidents typically happen when people try to domesticate wild animals.' Wolf-dogs and wolves are illegal in many states for a reason.

In fact, I remember a topic about them: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=366755

This pretty much sums up why I think we shouldn't have wolf-dogs: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/ ... 34i4it.jpg

Wow, it's a long time since I saw this topic. Good thing too, I have hopefully expanded my knowledge.

Alright, firstly, I disagree with what I previously said. People have been killed by "pet" wolves and wolf-hybrids. But you see, when a wild animal is domesticated, they lose their natural fear of humans, and therefore, have the potential to become aggressive and perhaps even deadly. I do agree with what I said secondly. To keep a wolf content, they need to be within a pack, even lone wolves are not truly happy because they are social creatures, as we see in dogs today. As for the incident where the hybrids killed their owner, I believe that the reason this happened is because the hybrids saw her as an outsider. When dogs are mixed with wolves and then form a pack, there is a potent mixture of dominance, confidence and power within that animal, making it more dangerous to humans than a pure wolf.

Wikipedia wrote:Wolf-hybrids may be bolder than pure wolves, and thus more dangerous to livestock and human life.

I do not like wolves. I used to, but I don't like 'em now.
Seeing the number of wolfaboo-type people was what really turned me off. Plus, I was getting more into reptiles and they have became some of my favorite animals.

This often happens to people. They begin off adoring wolves and when they find out about the huge mass of people who also adore them, they begin to dislike them for their popularity. I admired wolves before I came to find out about the internet, I slowly found the "wolf-a-boos", but this didn't change my admiration for the wolf.

Wolf-a-boos are immature people who give a bad name to the wolf, along with the other side, who view wolves as demonic, blood-thirsty creatures from your most dreadful nightmares (muahuahuah!). It's a sad situation really, wolves are persecuted from both sides, and the people who truly help them are the ones who actually know about wolves, and are not following a "trend" as it were.

I wouldn't dislike wolves because so many people on the internet love them and say ridiculous things of the, "OMG I WISH WOLVES WUD KILL ALL THOS PEOPLES", and, "THEY SO FLUFFFYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!1". It is not the wolves fault that they have so many attackers of both natures, they didn't ask for any of it. They are highly efficient and important animals, and without them, we would have bucket loads of trouble.

It must be irritating when people say that. I'm not completely and utterly obsessed with them, and thankfully, nobody has ever claimed that I am (to my memory and knowledge).

the people who are wolfaboos, may say things like "one wolf could destroy a lion, tiger, puma, hyena, or pre-adult black bear" or that packs of wolves routinly kill grizzlies.

You're right. It seems as if people want to make them seem more powerful, or even more vicious. A single wolf could not win against a lion, tiger, puma or bear but perhaps would against a hyena, although none of those animals would go looking for a fight. For a wolf, strength in numbers is very true.

I love wolves, but I'm not obsessed with them, too. I remember loving wolves when I was a child, and I couldn't believe all these fairytales where the wolf is always the bad guy. I always loved the way they live, and how strong they are together.

Oh, and the thing with the "wolf-a-boos": I totally agree. It's okay if you like wolves or beeing obsessed with them, but truly, some things are going way too far. One wolf beeing able to defeat a lion, puma and whatsoever was a good example for that. Plus I have to admit, it annoys me, when people call wolves "cute" and "aaaaw, so fluffy!"
I'm from Germany and the wolves are slowly coming back to us - and all over the internet you can read "OMG! THEY ARE SO CUTE!" and: "People who kill them are so stupid, because wolves are soooooooooo cute" wherever wolves are mentioned. Rarely something else. I mean ... I'm happy they're coming back, but I'm sick of reading these things over and over again. (So, the pups may be cute, but an adult wolf clearly isn't. I prefer calling wolves strong, fascinating and proud, but not cute. But that's only my opinion.)
