Not trying to be rude when I say this...but how do we save the wolves, anyway? Besides convincing hunters not to hunt, because they have a right to do that.

It's pretty complicated x3 definitely an ongoing war.
We can protest, sign petitions, call/send letters to commissioners/government officials etc.
You could PM if you want more information, but one of the best things to do is educate the public on these beautiful animals.

Donating money to defenders of wildlife. Thats just the most basic thing to do. Really there is much more.
EDIT* What wazaiyata said xD Volunteering at a wolf sanctuary to educate the public :) I was going to do that a few years ago but the drive was to long to go every week. Most of what i do is just signing petitions and donating :P no one cares about wolves around where i live. No protests i can go to :P I have once sent a letter, about 4 years ago, the time of the arial hunting in Alaska.

The thing about hunting is that while it looks like a brilliant option to attack [as in omg stop hunting the wolves its cruel] is that it really, really isn't that good of an option at all. You stop hunting and I can guarantee that the wolves will hunt themselves out of house and home. Wolves don't know when their prey is scarce, they just have a harder time finding it. Short term, stopping hunting is a great idea. Long term its a terrible idea that will eventually lead to the starvation of hundreds of wolves, and eventually, to solve that problem, there will be a mass cull to correct it.

[ keep in mind im not talking about endangered / protected species, just the commonly found ones. ]

whenever someone says something like 'omg save the wolves! Stop hunting its crule' I think no one should go after them saying
"but if we don't hunt them they will all kill eachother!" because you should not assume they are talking about gray or any common wolves. It is true there are many kinds that do need to be saved :)

Well, it's just that, seeing as grays/greys [I never know which is correct! 0^0 ] are the most popular species of wolf, it's probably safe to assume that the person will be imagining a grey/gray wolf. I mean, when someone mentions wolves, what's the first image that pops into your head? Probably not an ethiopian wolf...

Look What I Found On The Wolf?

Postby CuddlesBabyCakes » Sat Jan 19, 2013 5:55 am

Omg, I know to a lot of people the topic of a wolf is over used, but I can't help myself with this one and talking about them. I found this information on this link: http://www.naturalworlds.org/wolf/history/evolution.htm<(don't know if that link works or not). Well anyway, see if you found this as interesting as I did.

EVOLUTION OF THE WOLF

Far back in the Tertiary Period, over 50 Million years ago, there evolved a group of small, early carnivors known as the Miacidae. Like many other modern mammilian groups, these animals evolved from primitive insectiovrs which had lived alongside the Dinosaurs during the Cretaceous Period. Many Palentologists strongly believe that the Miacids are the most likely ancestors of the Canidae, which includes all wolves, dogs, and foxes. The genus Canis itself is a rather recent development. Some species of the genus, such as the modern Grey Wolf, have only come about in the past one millions years. Other canids, such as foxes, are older by comparison. The Grey Fox, Urocyon cinereogeneus is widely considered to be the most primitive canid alive today.

Grey Wolves, (Canis lupus) most likely originated in Asia. It probably took up residence in North America some 700,000 years ago, after having crossed the Pleistocene land bridge which connected the two continents at the time. The Dire Wolf, Canis dirus, a somewhat larger and more robust form of wolf, had evolved in North America earlier. The Dire Wolf and the Grey Wolf shared the continent for nearly half a million years, until the Dire Wolf, along with many other Pleistocene species, died out in the great extinction of 16,000 years ago.

The place of the Red Wolf (Canis Rufus) in the history of the wolves is not yet very clear. Some believe that it is not a true species at all, but instead the product of hybridization between Grey Wolves and Coyotes. Others theorize that it is a true species unique to North America which once had a much wider distribution then it does today, but retreated to the Southeastern portion of the country as the Grey Wolf advanced farther South. Alternatively, the Red Wolf could also be merely be an variety of Pleistocene Wolf which became geographically isolated from the other populations, and now has a very confined range. For the purpose of conservation and taxonomy, the most popular view is that the Red Wolf does merit species status. However, most Red Wolves alive today, even those considered as “pure”, almost certainly have at least some coyote ancestry. The Red Wolf gene pool was in recent history flooded with coyote influence because of the difficulty Red Wolves encountered in finding mates of their own kind. This occurred because man killed so many of the “true” Red Wolves, and coyotes were much better able to survive extermination efforts. If hybridization with coyotes had not occurred, all trace of the Red Wolf may have been lost completely, as the number of Red Wolves became dangerously low.

I love wolves! They are my favourite animal. I find it so sad that they are hunted. People say that your not allowed to leave the body and just take the pelt, I don't think everyne sticks to that rule. I don't like how they are used for taxidermy and I don't think it's repecting the animal cause it dead, end of.
Anyhow, wolves are such amazing creatures! WHy do people think they are aggressive and savage? It's strange
