Im gonna name my ferret Hermione or Piper if its a girl, or if its a by Harry,Ron, or Jason. All bok charecters. :) Wich name(s) do you like?

Haha i know what books they are from :P Harry potter...obviously :P and heroes of olyimpus?

Anyway...about ferrets. I co not own a ferret. But would reallly love one. Some people say they smell but to be honest i dont really care. I have a cat and a bunny. Stink can bother me.

Ferrets do have a musky odor, which is worse when they aren't neutered or spayed. But honestly they don't stink to me at all. I like their smell. There are ways to help with their scent, minimizing it. Like a good diet, cleaning their litterbox twice a day, cleaning/washing cage and bedding one a week. I agree doesn't bother me.

I must add that even though some people say to bathe them frequently, it is not good it causes them to stink more because they produce more oils when bathed alot. It is best to give them bathes once ever 2-3 months.

Oh yes I forgot to add that! Great add Raven!!
You dry out their skin with frequent baths and make their oil glands work overtime to replenish it, making their odor stronger! Gambit loves to play in water, but no baths with shampoo or soap for him until he needs it. Also people believe that descenting them makes the odor better, it really doesn't. They do release a pungent odor from their scent glands, like skunks, when frightened but the real smell comes from their oil glands.

i have had a total of 5 ferrets. our first was Coon, he was mine (i was about 10). we then got Dusty, for my sister. sadly, one day, Coon and Dusty found their way out of our home (old trailer, never did find out how). Dusty came back, but Coon never did. i was so upset, my mom surprised me with a new boy, Rascal. loved that ferret! over the years, we took in two more, from people who were no longer able to keep them. these were Jake and Moonshine. we had these 4 for years. i think Dusty was 9, Rascal 8 when they died, and im unsure the ages of Jake and Moonshine when they passed, as we got them when they were a bit older and the owners never did give us an age, but they must have been close to those ages.

we had a whole room in the basement for them, filled it with shavings and they had two cages in there too, they loved it. i always loved changing out the shavings, they had a blast! bouncing all around in the new stuff, it was the cutest thing. i do miss those little guys =( maybe one day i'll get another, but i just dont think it would be the same, miss my little Rascal =(

I heard that if you use cat litter for the litter box that your not suppose to use the stuff that clumps because it causes them to have breathing problems. Can anybody tell me if that is true or not?

You should not use wood shavings(Such as these http://www.petco.com/product/113567/Car ... ing-113567) or normal cat litter they can cause respiratory problems and cause your ferrets to become very ill.

You are correct. You should never using clumping cat litter for a ferret, not only can it cause respitory issues (pine/ceader shavings cause this as well) but it can clog up their noses, they can accidently eat or swallow some and clog up their insides. The bottom of their cage should have snugglies; pillow cases, t-shirts, towels, ferret beds. Stuff like that. Their litter boxes should contain either pine pellets (I don't know much about them because I don't use them, but they are the kind used for fireplaces. Found at home depot, lowes, ect.) or a nonclumping recyled paper litter. I personaly use Yesterday's News, and I like it quite a bit.

Awwwww I am so sorry Coon vanished, ferrets have such a bad sense of direction. They just wander and get lost, I hope that he found a home or someone to rescue him; that is always a possibility. It wont be the same, it will be different getting another, but might be a very good different! Now that I have one, I think ferrets are a pet I am going to keep. They make you smile no matter what, they are darned cute even when being such brats! Moonshine by the way is a good name, I really enjoy that one.

Gambit escaped his cage today, due to a mistake by me I believe. His cage is about four feet off the ground, he took a leap off the top!!! Daredevils, I am sure he was out and about an hour, but ferrets are quite. I heard thumping because he was playing in his dig box, went in and found him just chilling. Silly little ferret!!! Checked him over, he is alright , but I will be double checking ALL his cage doors!

My friend has two ferrets, one of which is white with 'cow' like darker spots on him. Any idea what the color coat is called? :3 [Just curious because I haven't seen markings like that before].

Ferrets are amazing, and I would love to own two someday. <3

I would have to see a picture but if he is 90% white with black eyes he is a Dark Eyed White, with black markings. I think, might be wrong, called a Marked White or Marked DEW. Meaning they are almost all white with some black or gray markings. Seen a few with like black tails or black down their spine.
