Unfortunately.. she will never "un-learn" that behavior.. ever. That's why so many large birds get rehomed and into rescues. We have one who sounds like a fire hydrant and another that screams like a 6 year old girl. My best suggestion is to ignore her 100% completely when she makes that noise and reward her if she makes another noise you like better. Maybe a cooing noise or "hello" or whatever you would prefer her to do more often.

It's very hard not to react, it's piercing :silent:
No fear of her ever going to a new home or rescue. I didn't take on an african grey as an inexperienced owner, she's for life. I just NEED her to stop copying the canary. I've him moved to the other side of the house and she can still hear him and still copies him

The bigger the cage the better. Doves are not like parrots where they need human interaction or toys to stay sane, but they still need the best life possible! If money is a bind right now, I would suggest holding off on getting one until you know you can afford it for the rest of it's life, which could be 15-30 years depending on what type of dove you get. They are a huge commitment, but a great brid for someone new into the bird world and can be a fun to watch and listen to!

Sorry if it sounded like I was suggesting you would rehome her XD not what I meant at all.. It's just once they learn to mimic something there's absolutely nothing you can do to make them "un-learn" it.. Nothing at all. You can try to reinforce other behaviors and she will most likely catch on and do those instead, but if she can hear the canary a lot, it will remind her that " hey! I can make that noise too!".

I wouldn't mind if she learned the nice canary songs or warbles or all those weird noises canaries can do but no, the has to learn the high pitched squeak and makes it ten times louder X.x
I'll try reinforce good girl, and wooooooo because she's saying them a lot lately :9

Instead if thinking "how can I make her stop" think "what can I get her to do instead"
It's called the dead mans rule, if a dead man can do it it's not a behaviour (eg. Stop screaming, stop bitting)
This can be applied to all animals even children, insead of trying to get them to stop doing something, give them something else to do.

Try redirecting her buy focusing on something else that you would like her to do instead
Whether that be singing, dancing or having a bath (something she enjoys)
Make another noise that she knows and get her to copy that and give hear a treat, try your hardest to ignore the noises you don't want her to make
Once she learns she gets a positive reaction from other noises she will make the annoying noises (which get no reaction) less
Don't expect her to stop making them completely though because she won't, especially if she can hear your canary

Eg. I taught my GCC to whistle to me if I go out of eye site instead of the high pitch flock calling.

Okay guys, I think I'm set on getting a Diamond Dove as my species of bird. I still have a lot of convincing to do for my parents, but that'll come with time. c: What are some things that I need to know about Diamond Doves? I have a friend that has owned a Diamond Dove in the past, but I do not think she knows much about exact cage sizes, foods, treats, pros and cons, than she knows what it is like to actually have one. So once I do have enough information, I'll talk to her about it. C: I do know that Diamond Doves need a at least 12x12x12 (if I am correct those are just the rounded numbers) and need a cage that is more wide than high. Diamond Doves are smaller types of doves and males are usually more gray than females. Their diet consists of seeds, pellets, and I do not know what else. I haven't looked too much into treats yet, so yeah. Then doves are not as high-maintenance as lets say a parrot. They don't need as many toys as parrots would need, but toys to keep them sane and a "flock mate"/ somebody to talk to. They also need attention for at least 30 minutes a day if I am correct. Is there anything I need to be corrected on or is there any important things I need to know>

I was doing pretty well with taming my budgie, he was coming onto my hand even if I didn't have food on it, and sometimes landing on me when he was out of the cage. Buuut. Then he kinda stopped. He wouldn't go on my hand, even if I had food. He's been molting, and still is, but he's scared of me now. He'll move away from me in the cage, and I'm not letting him out anymore because it takes forever to get him back in.
Is there any advice? How do I regain his trust? How long will the molting last?

If I remember correctly, minimum cage size should be 24"W x 18"D x 18"T (for two doves). As for food, since there isn't really any food specifically for Diamond Doves, get canary seed instead. Ringneck dove food will not work, the pieces are too big for a diamond to eat. Doves require bird grit since they swallow seeds whole. A female Diamond Dove will lay two eggs every month, and sit on them for about two weeks, (sometimes more) before laying another two. During this time you can't disturb her or take the eggs, or she will lay continuously which will cause severe problems. If she abandons the nest, not sitting on the eggs for up to three days, you should remove the eggs. If you end up getting a dove from the pet store, wait until she lays her first clutch of eggs and put a flashlight under each one a week after they are laid. Because male and female doves are often mixed in the same cage at stores, she may have laid fertile eggs. It's best to get a single male (a pair will fight) and just focus on him. You should be the flock mate. A Diamond Dove should come out for at least and hour a day. Don't put toys in the cage, except for a small bell the dove can tap. Toys serve no purpose to the dove, and will often scare them. The trouble here is that you should get as young a dove possible, (easier to tame) but you will not be able to tell the gender of the dove until it's eye ring grows completely. There's not much you can give them for treats, but millet and kale works best. Keep in mind that the dove won't want to be with you as a parrot will. Males are only more grey then females only when they have a wild/blue coloring.
Pros; Easy to care for, Quiet, Pleasant cooing
Cons; Very messy, Expensive grit, Don't care for attention

Unfortunately I don't know too much about budgie molting, but a short molt will probably last around a month. While he's molting, he'll be itchy and stressed which may be the reason why he doesn't want to come to you.

Yes, I use one for 6 (possibly 8 if the eggs hatch) Diamond Doves.

what material did you use ?
do you know if the dark ones are bether...or make birds sick?
there are so many different opinions outside for what to use

one out of only stainless steel would be great but to expensive...
galvanized aluminum some say is good, other galvanized steel, burned in ,and so on...do you or anybody else know of this??
and then the Color...some say green, some black, other the normal silver...
