Catnip is a stimulant, so no it wouldn't work to help calm her down. What I did when I transitioned my three to indoor only cats was tire them out. Get multiple types of toys and play with her as much as you can so that she's too tired to realize she's not outside. Eventually, she'll stop wanting to get outside and you[ll be able to play with her less if you want to. I still play with my cats on a daily basis because it's fun for them and for me and it helps me relax.

You'll also want to make the indoors welcoming and enticing for her. You'll need to figure out if she's a cat that prefers to be up high or down low and get/make some cat furniture to suit her needs. Naya and Koda prefer to be up high for example, so I have several tall cat trees in my apartment and I put a bed on top of my ferret cage for them to use as well. Loki, on the other hand, prefers lower, dark places. So I made sure those cat trees I mentioned earlier have low perches and tunnels as well as getting a couple of cubes and beds to keep on the floor for her to use.

Late reply, but teach them to sit on the floor before they get food, any food, including treats and everything else =3

I've taught my cat to sit on the floor before he gets any type of food and it works really well. He does want to get a closer look/sniff at my food when I eat, but he knows he won't get anything as long as he's on the table so he's usually not pushy about it. And he only begs for food by sitting on the floor while looking at me with puppy dog eyes and making that cute "mrrp" sound cats make when they want your attention.
But if my cat still gets too close when I eat, a firm outstretched arm in front of him usually work. You don't want to hit or slap or anything, just block the cat. They'll get the message eventually.

Oh and you train a cat exactly the same way you train a dog, using positive reinforcement. Just keep the training sessions short and sweet because cats tend to have a pretty short attention span =P

How common is tipping the right ear? I adopted Tambora with a tipped ear but I just noticed he has the right ear tipped, not the left. I'm used to seeing left ears tipped when ferals are caught, fixed, and released.

hey just popping in to introduce my new kitty who i just got today ! her name is athena, she's 5 months old, and she's so so so affectionate. she snuggles with me and has been purring ever since we got home, and never leaves my side except when she wants food (me when im clingy tbh) and she lets me pet her lil toebeans. she's a mega soft domestic shorthair, and the cutest kitty ever. i love her with all my heart and i know she's been given a good home.
edit: okay so when i go to pet her she loves it and is super affectionate but when i pull away to go do something she gets mad and paws at my face, sometimes clawing. is this normal? is there a way to stop this behavior?

Any suggestions for a name? I found her with a broken leg a few days ago but she's making a great recovery(:

hi everyone. i've searched google and it doesnt hold the answer, so i'll ask here.
my cat faith is an extremely anxious cat. she wasn't like that at birth, but growing up she developed the trait along the way and it's gotten worse.
she's scared of everyone. she refuses to let someone touch her, and despite being overweight, will somehow drag herself underneath a couch just to get away from people. the only person she'll let touch her is me, and that's only at certain times. she cuddles me while i'm asleep but as soon as i wake up and have to get ready for the day, it's as if she hates me.
but the issue is, that in my house we have two living rooms. they're fairly close to each other and not many people go in the front living room, since it's usually the hang-out spot/gaming room. faith is obsessed with that room. it gets pretty cold in there so we tend to keep the door closed in winter, but whenever it's closed and she's not in it she'll cry at the door for hours, non-stop, just wanting to get in. and as soon as the door opens, she bolts and doesnt come out until im going to bed.
is there any way to get her unattached to the room? i'm really not sure what to do - i've been keeping the door closed but she just wont stop crying. i dont want to force her to socialise but i fear that if i allow her to stay in that room alone all day she'll just get worse. she's only two years old, and she's a half-manx tuxedo cat. we also own her mother, who's a full tabby manx, and we used to have her grandmom but she passed away late june.
i'm kinda stuck on what to do. also, im pretty confident this isnt medical advice, but if it somehow classifies i'm sorry lol

Hey, I have a question for y'all. My cat is a long hair mutt and I live in an extremely snowy state. She came inside after our first heavy snow fall looking like a snowball. What can I do to help keep the snow off her?

@ Butter run
not so easy...i really have no idea how to Keep snow away from cats^^
maybe a little cat shirt-blanket-coat (like you use for dogs and horses^^), little cat boots ... or sew a full body cover (without head and tail^^) but with legs...like you have for dogs to protect them from mud-snow and rain...maybe you find one for tiny dogs that works for a cat^^

did have a look at Amazon...maybe something like this?:
-DogHelios Thunder-crackle Full-Body Waded-Plush Adjustable and 3M Reflective Dog Jacket --x-small
-Muttluks Red Reversible Dog Snowsuit
-dog leg warmer (AMA(TM) Cute Doggie Pet Dog Puppy Cotton Keep Warm Leg Socks Non-slip Dog Leg Warmers Socks, Set of 4)
-Knitted Braid Plait Turtleneck Sweater Knitwear
-Kimfoxes Pet Dog Jacket Vest Windproof Garment Waterproof Snowproof Clothing Waistcoat Winter Warm Clothes Reversible British Style Grid Plaid Dog Coat
-Bao Core BXT Pets Puppy Cats Dogs Spring/Fall/Winter Soft Warmer Sleeves Sweater Pet Clothes Hoodies Jumpsuit Jumper (XS)

..i really dont know, sorry :)

@ Deltas
first...what does your vet say...is the cat healthy...sometimes trouble with heart, something in the blood, or bones or some simple hurt can make a cat change more and more, they can get more fearful, will react to things...
...when cat was checked out, but nothing wrong...

ask youself some questions
-did something Change in your home, new Food, a new cat tree...
- does she own enough high places to get away from human for calm time and sun bathing at the window...
- enough plaes to scartch, jump, Play...maybe even a cat running wheel to lose energy and fat...
-how often do you Play with her, teach her new things, or simply groom her with a very soft brush

Training, Training and Training...and when it is only some second or minutes at the beginning, and when you have to try out diferent toys an such to make the cat more interested and worked out to lose weight...

for the Thing with the room...maybe put in the door a cat door...and make the rooms outside more interesting for the cat....like cat nest and and those cat wall boards at the wall for the cat to sit and walk on, an more interesting cat tree or such, so she is with all of you but away from you...and can come down whe she feels safe enough.

the cat sound as if people touch her when she hurts or is scarred...as if she only has the room as safety room and as if the other rooms are not interesting and safe enough for her...

maybe try to be more calm, silent voice, the Person who wants to touch her sits on the ground a bit away from her and has Food she does love but oes not get so often, let the cat come to you an not the other way around...

maybe make a Video of her, how she reacts to things...like movement, sounds, People, touch......then look at it, maye you see what the Problem is an can Change it...

not sure if this ddid help at all...hope you tell how it goes

@ P.U.N.K.
awww that is cute, hope your vet could fully help with the broken leg...it is really nice that you did take her in :D
hmmmmm...a name....maybe jubilee, lilee, Mica, Jenna, Dianne  not easy...

@ angelo
this sound like kitten behavior, nothing bad, she wants your Attention and love^^
...just take the claws out...take the kitten with a no and put her next to you on a pillow or her bed or just next to the lace you sit..or in her cat tree to play or her bed, do it again when she comes again....when she stays calm where she is , let her be for some time, and when you see that she is calm and you want tp play or such again, call her for a nice play or training, but dont let it go to wild, but always try to stop this cule -play or training time at a nice Moment.

this is so she learns to play and petting or brushing time is all nice and good, but she has to stay nice and calm and no claws or begging and that it is alright when owner does stop and does different hings, as you will coe back or do the Petting an stroking and playing again some other time or even only some moments later^^

just stay calm and nice^^ but think like a mother cat, they also would not let there baby run over there face and go on there nerv when they do something eslse...and when they nudge the kitty to the side carefully.^^
maybe you can ask the breeder how they did it with kitten they did own^^
Please klick them or they will die°°!!!

hey! I've recently returned to CS with six new cats (ooo) and I was wondering what the probability of one of our cats being pregnant during the winter is? her name is Lucy and she's sort of got a belly but we can't really tell if she's just plump or if she's really pregnant.
    thank you!
