Should I leave it frozen, or defrost it before I give it to her?
Haven't opened it up yet, so not sure how big the cubes are

The cubes are pretty big and if you want to just try her before going all out just defrost one cube and try her from there, you can also take out as many as you need for one meal defrost those and put the others back in the freezer.

A raw fed kitten to revive the thread!

My mom's cat Puck keeps getting sick, and this time is most likely because she went out of town and change is hard on him, but I'm growing tired of it. I'm going to see if we can start doing raw with him sooner rather than later. In the next few weeks, my sister's cat will be making the change. I feel like we might as well do the rest of the animals all at the same time.

I need names of good weight-management cat foods. I just adopted an older middle-age kitty who was free-fed and is more than a little pudgy (couldn't fit in ANY of the cat beds or carriers Petsmart had!) but is really sweet. Also, any good tips on foods that help shedding? This guy is my first non-barn kitty actually ;u;

My cat is doing fantastically on Wellness and Weruva. She also really likes Merrick and Earthborn, so we're sort of switching between all four at the moment. The best thing for a pudgy kitty is to transition into meal feedings instead of free feeding, and get her on a wet food :)

I'm super excited! I'm going down to see Link in a few days and we'll be swapping meats since I have too much boneless and she has some things Okami doesn't like. I've started using the fish she gave me for Christmas in Creed's meals and he's doing well on it so far so here's hoping!

On the topic of kitties, and sorry if this has been asked before, what's the best brand for my cat? She's pregnant so I definitely want her to have something healthy for her. I've tried researching it a bit but all of the brands recommended aren't stocked in any of my local stores like Walmart. The nearest petstore is out of town.
So I'm wondering if there's any cat foods stocked at Walmart or similiar places that are actually good to feed to my cat. I doubt it but it's worth a shot. I'd perfer to give her dry food since wet food upsets her stomach. I don't mind much about the price since I only need a bag for one cat and it should last awhile.
Sorry if my post doesn't make any sense, it's late and I haven't slept in awhile so I'm really tired right now.

This may sound strange, but have you considered ordering online? You can get really good food at better prices on several websites, albeit obviously with shipping added. I know your pain - we only have one pet store in town that sells "good" food but I hate supporting them because they keep live animals in store.

If you have a local TSC (Tractor Supply Company), I know that their in-house brand, 4Health, has a grain-free kitty kibble, and even their grain-inclusive formulas start with a few meats. I'm not sure exactly what would be best for a female cat who's pregnant, though. They obviously need more of something but I'm no kitty dietary expert!

A well balanced species appropriate diet should be good for both those things. What kind of food are you feeding now and what kind do you want to switch too? There are links in the first post that can help you find a brand of food that is better for your cat. Exercise is also important to maintaining a correct weight. If you are feeding kibble I suggest utilizing puzzle toys, or hiding it's food around the house for it to hunt for. Regular brushing can also help with the shedding as well.

So, I was re-reading the front page and...
BAM!
The worst.
Pedigree, Kibbles 'n Bits, Alpo, Gravy Train (cringe), Purina Dog Chow, Beneful Original, Ol'roy...

First thing on the list? That's the good stuff here in Uganda/Kenya.
We used to feed our dogs Pedigree and, at times, Alpo.
*dies* That's just sad...
Now, we feed them rice. Just plain rice. They also get our pork chop bones, etc., and frozen, meaty bones when they're driving my mom insane.
The funny thing is, when we were feeding them Pedigree, they were perfectly healthy. I'm serious, they were just fine. Strong, decent weight, and they were getting more food than they strictly needed, and glossy-coated.
How did that happen if Pedigree is so terrible? :what:
