We recently got (approx. 1 month ago) 2 lovely mini aussie pups, Lyla and Candace (Lyla is above). Lyla isn't too bad, but Candace is a severe chewer. She bites down on our hands, ankles, feet; anything, and does not let go no matter what. Any advice please?

Yip/say ow then completely ignore for several seconds, removing yourself completely. When teeth meet skin ALL the fun stops.

Also, do some research into littermate syndrome.

Kalrine- How adorable! as for chewing I suggest, giving her minimal access to things she might be able to chew. If she chews you're feet you can scold her, try never to make a game out of it or she will get mixed messages. We had the same problem with my er... Late puppy :c

I've tried both of these, but the pups are very determined. We can be just sitting out on the back porch and they'll start leaping at us. For a little while, saying "yip" or "ow" worked, but it didn't last long; they ignored our whines every time after the first couple. We can ignore them entirely, but only for a certain amount of time until their sharp little fangs really begin to hurt. Thanks for the suggestions, though! I'll take a look into littermate syndrome.

I looked into littermate syndrome. It seems it may be possible they have that; or maybe not. Neither of them is very shy at all (especially Lyla, but Candace is bold too), but every time we separate them they whimper and whine. I thought that may be normal for any littermates.

Are you sure thats a mini aussie? From that pic it does not look like one to me. (I prefer standard aussies, but ive seen plenty of mini aussie pups on my aussie FB page. Could just be the pic, but it doesnt look full mini aussie to me)

I've seen their mother and father; and their definitely mini aussies. The pic was taken about 3 weeks ago. Lyla and Candace are slowly and steadily coming to look a lot more like the breed. We noticed Lyla's fur is a bit shorter than Candace's (who is extremely fluffy), which may be why the pic looks a little odd.

Shes grow a lot since then; shes fluffier by a lot too, and a bit bigger than Lyla.

How old are they? Im still not seeing aussie. That second picture looks a little more like a aussie, but that first one looks a lot like a texas heeler pup ive seen...

The pups are 10 or 11 weeks now; we don't know the exact age.
This is a pic of a purebred (or so they say and I believe) 10 week old aussie on the net I found, which Candace looks absolutely identical to:


Both have floppy ears, fluffy fur, and the exact same colors. Only difference I noticed was the brown patches on the front legs. Lyla looks the same, but with very slightly shorter fur and a blue merle coat.

Also a book I read say'd that dogs that don't get enough exercise will chew, and giving them free roam of the house or even outside does not count. You have to play games with them and wear them out till they drop. XD That might make them calm down a little bit.

x.x We've tried that until we both drop; every morning, afternoon (around 3:00), and night (around 7:00). They have 3 toys each that they play with and love, in addition to playing with me, my family, and our mostly pitbull cross, Missy. :3

I'll be back soon! Just for info sakes, I have 2 husky puppies, almost 3 months. Both female. One weighs 25lbs, the other 20.

Littermate syndrome isn't a sudden thing. It's as the age and are supposed to be maturing into themselves. Their mental/emotional maturity will be stunted and they'll be more bonded with each other then with humans, making them a pain in the ass to separate and work with later on. You need to basically crate and rotate with their crates in separate rooms, if you don't want them developing littermate syndrome.

Also, please don't pinch their ears. Not only do I not believe in ever physically correcting a dog, it has the possibility of making them ear shy. You REALLY don't want that. When they bite you, yelp, cross your arms, stand up and completely ignore them for thirty seconds. Don't even look at them. Then you can go back to playing. A minute is probably too long for puppies and they'll get bored and go do something else.
