How many birds do you own? ( if applicable ): 0 ^^"
What brings you to the bird chat?: Well, I've absolutely adored my friend's pet birds for as long as we've been friends, and she got a new Diamond Dove (I think that is what they are called? Really pretty birds, anyways XD) and that was it for me. "I'm getting a bird!" XD My mother isn't really bought on it yet, though, but once I have a full research paper, my mom will probably give in. *thumbs up* (she loves those types of things, knowing I really looked into something first, and make sure my heart is set on it) but I just have a couple of questions and I want to be able to know some other bird lovers! I had a Finch (can't remember what type it was) for a couple of days that I helped rehabilitate named Survivor, but I honestly don't know very much about birds except some ways to tame them and help them out with flying. I've tried to look at websites for my questions, but it doesn't seem like anybody really likes Society Finches

So for a couple of questions;
If I were to get two Society Finches, would that be enough for their flock?
How long could their cage go without cleaning?
Is there any major concerns when it comes to Society Finches?
Do their wings needs to be majorly clipped?
And any other advise for a beginner bird owner would be nice. c:
Congrats on your adventure! We have 2 finches and a diamond dove currently and they are awesome!
Finches definitely are not any harder to tame then a parrot if done right. They are fast and agile, yes, but don't let this stop you. I really suggest getting a rescue finch from your local bird rescue or a friend because there are so so so many birds out there who need homes!
2 finches is a great place to start, but if you can give the time and space to more, that's a great option too! The bigger the cage the better! We currently have a cage 4 ft by 3 ft for our finches and they use and love every inch of it, so I definitely think you should invest in a larger cage.
Clipping the wings of birds is very detrimental to any kind of bird, and should be avoided if possible ( I am fully aware that there are some situations where clipping a pet birds wings is very necessary I.e. if they are injuring themselves or are very sick to begin with, but in 99% of cases it's best to keep them flighted. ) This may seem a bit harder to tame your birds but I swear it will pay off in the end because then you will KNOW that your birds truly trusts you and is with you by CHOICE and not because they have no option. because they cannot fly. This being said,
you need to bird proof your room Make sure at all times that your doors are shut, windows shut, mirrors and windows covered, and small spaces they could get stuck in are covered or filled as well.
Cleaning depends on how big the cage is and how messy your birds are. My lovebird's cage needs to be cleaned every week, because he's messy, but our finches cage which is the same size needs to be cleaned once every two weeks. Just take a look and see what works best for you!
This is a great start by posting in forums, and it shows how much you truly will love your babies! They are different then a parrot for sure, and definitely a GREAT starter bird for anyone so you've made a great choice, and you will all be so happy together! They require time and patience for one, so please don't get angry if it takes a while to take them especially if they are older, but they will come around. My finches were 3 when we got them and took an ENTIRE year to be fully tamed, but it is an AMAZING Feeling knowing they they all love and trust me!
