Topic suggestion: How much breeding has gone into today's domesticated dogs, do you think?

Me and my mom watched a show where people cross bred dogs to have certain skills and stuff, it was awful... They were bred so much that most of the offspring had deformities and such... They bread one from a wolf into a domestic through like 50 or so dogs... it's so sad that people do that just to get the 'perfect' dog, and the failed breeds are just discarded...

that is sad...

If i can find which movie it is... ill post it here, but it was on Netflix and i might not be able to find it... It's horible that they breed dogs/wolves just to get dogs with good smelling(but no hearing maybe) and to get a dog that is built to run and track for long times on end(but some are deformed and thrown away) so sad : ( ...

Except for the maned, those are all subspecies of the grey. .3.
The maned wolf is not a true wolf anyhow.

Would you rather have us breed for looks only? A few have only been bred for looks, but nearly all dogs once had a specific purpose. We have done to wolves in a few hundred years what nature does in a few thousand. Selective breeding.
For instance, let's say a couple wolves were born with longer legs than their relatives. If these wolves lived in a plains area, this might aid them to increase the rate they bring down prey, because their prey have developed a stronger heart and lungs to allow them endurance running and the wolves need to either run faster, gain more stealth tactics, or a similar function to the prey. As you can see, this leaves a few windows open for the wolves to evolve.
The two wolves breed and their offspring also have the new genetic trait. Skipping a few years, all wolves in the area now have this feature.
Scottish Folds owe their signature 'folded' ears to a single kitten, born with the odd genetic mutation. Humans bred the cat and picked the offspring that had folded ears and bred those, and so on, until they had a sizable population of these cats.

((I love wolves so much, with all my heart. I ask my dad questions like. "Are wolves blood thirsty?" Then he'd say "True." Then I'd say "FALSE!" And I'd explain to him why. I have like wolf shirts, wolf necklaces, a wolf hat, wolf calendar, wolf blanket, wolf towel, wolf stuffed animal, and more! I plan on making a club at my school, that shows awareness about wolves, and how they shouldn't be hunted. I hope I'm accepted, I did the code, and I've put up banners, I was told how, since I'm new. Don't let my account name fool you, I've been searching for a good name forever, and a friend helped me with a avatar and a new name, even though I give my heart to wolves, I love pugs a little less than wolves... sometimes it's equal. :D ))

((Omg, thanks so much! I'll help as much as I can! I might not do the club thing, I might draw pictures of wolves, and then put something from the banner, like "Stop hunting wolves" at the bottom, and post it around school, it'll be cool.))

That would be a good idea, just a little suggestion; try and make it about endangered wolf species, like Ethiopian wolves, who really need all the protection they can receive, instead of just Grey wolves. Grey wolves need to be hunted down, otherwise they would overpopulate. I'm not trying to start any fights, It's just a suggestion, please don't argue about it...
