Been there, done that! I'm always scared too. Remember to take something to keep you busy while you're waiting, I took a book, a neck pillow, and lunch. Also let them know that you're staying ahead of time, I did this and they let Chloe stay with me until it was time for her to go back so she didn't have to spend more time in a cage then necessary.

Also I asked and they agreed to let me give them a blanket with her and my scent on it (I just took the one she'd been sleeping on off the bed) to put in her recovery cage so she wouldn't be as scared waking up. I don't know how much it really helped her recovery, but it made me feel better knowing she had it.

Be aware she'll still be drugged when you take her home. She may cry on the way home, it's usually just the drugs, so don't freak out. I probably would have if the tech hadn't warned me.

I can understand the nervousness but luckily I’ve know my vet for years and I’m allowed to stay and watch if I wish. Mainly because I shadowed him for three years to learn and will be doing an externship with him once I can go to college full time. What person can say they had their dogs stuff tossed at them. That was so funny. Ended up landing in my friend’s scrub pocket who is now a vet tech there. Dental isn’t too bad it just can take a while depending on what needs to be done. I haven’t seen very many of those.

Thankfully I work at the clinic, and I'm able to be there / help with things. I'm just nervous as she's almost 9 years old and we've found her kidney's aren't 100%. I made sure it was on a late night so the clinic is open until 8pm in case there are any complications. Going to be doing bloodwork, etc. She's just my baby and this is my first dog, and the first time I've ever had an animal under for anything at all (I adopted her in May of 2017). I just can't help but be scared I'm not bringing my dog home and it scares me.

Just went on the most amazing walk with Blue... didn’t pull once. Stayed in a great heel for pretty much the whole time, got a little distracted a handful of times, but immediately heeled again once I directed her attention into me. It’s hard to believe that she’s the same pup that we got just over 2 weeks ago haha.

Yesterday, however, she gave me a little scare. I was walking her along our normal route (the one we just took, actually) and she was doing fantastic. At around halfway through, she started sniffing the ground a lot. I thought she needed to do her business, so I let her, which I guess was a mistake. She didn’t need to go to the bathroom and all the sniffing just distracted her and made it difficult to get her to focus. She partially re-focused again, and we crossed a road. As soon as we crossed her attention immediately shifted from me and onto something in the distance, I think... I don’t know what. She started whimpering, yelping and pulling like a mad dog. I was so confused, because I couldn’t see what she was trying to go towards. Even worse, this was the absolute most distracted I’ve ever seen her. She was running-pulling (she usually just walks if she starts to pull), panting like crazy, and I could not get her attention whatsoever (when she becomes distracted I am able to get her attention again with a treat). She was ignoring me completely. It was such an odd reaction, too, because she wasn’t acting excited. Excitement is usually what causes similar reactions like this, you can tell because her tail is wagging.

I went to a nearby field and sat down with her to see if she hurt herself or something... nope. After a few minutes she returned to normal. It was so weird. I’ve never seen anything like it with her, especially since she didn’t appear to be reacting to anything (she was just pulling at random it seemed, she wasn’t going towards anything).

Could this possibly be her fear period starting to kick in?? She’s 8 months old now, so it would make sense time-wise. She also barked once at a planter pot through the window today. She calmed down quickly, but it seems very fear period-esque to me.

and before anyone says anything to me about his kennel.. he's only in it maybe a hour a day. I put him in there when i leave for work and then my grandma or sister let him out when they get up. the only other time he is in there is to eat dinner. Because its the only way he will eat all his food. I know its small but my mom and sister took Killy's old one over when they go their pups. i didn't really mind because Killian doesn't stay in the kennel that much at all anymore.

Doesn't look that small. My puppy sleeps on top of my dog (A Chi puppy and a Jack Chi) so we saw no reason to get a larger cage. They can move around easily and fit all there toys in there. If the dog can move comfortably and can even fit in its bowls, it should be fine especially for just an hour a day.

hey Harlow, sorry I'm a little late on your list, i can get so distracted sometimes :')

It's normal that I had to look up where the northern states were right? xD

'Marvel' who I guess is actually Harvey went home today and I'm at the hospital so I couldn't even say goodbye to his precious face. Oh well.. if you love it let it go right?

I have a quick question- what's the best age to start a puppy on leash training. (No tugging and heel) I'd just like opinions, my basset mix Kingston is small but he likes to bark and pull and I'd like to break those habits before summer. He's about 6 months old

^ It's never too early to start training assuming you're using positive methods!

Wick is only 5 months and I'm about to start training him to walk nice on leash since he's almost done with his shots (Just rabbies and bordetella to go). I'm pretty excited because I can't wait to go walking outside and bring him to parks and stuff!

Speaking of Wick, he's doing great. I know I haven't been posting but we've been busy because we're moving and have been packing. You know it's funny. I assumed he'd be barking at everything that moved and hard to potty train since he's a little dog. He only barks when we're playing and he can hold it for 2+ hours. Hoping that doesn't changed once he gets to adolescence.

Here's the little fuzz ball. Can't wait to be able to bring him to the groomer... not sure I trust myself to cut his hair.

I've tried shaving my old dog during the summer and it didn't go too well xD
But I'm no groomer so my dog ended up with a 'layered' look :')
