hey there! I would try making out of cage time as interesting as possible for your little ones! The treats still work for now, but have a bunch of fun activities they like to do that only happen outside of the cage,(like giving them treats outside, their favourite toy) If they figure out that out of cage time means fun time, then with some work, they will probably get excited to come out and they wont need a treat because for them being out of the cage is the treat. Now this is just my reasoning, but there are TONS of awesome resources out there! my favourite happens to be the Parrot forum Awesome people, staff, and advice!

I'm going to let them out again today but this time I'll set up the room with their toys so it is more interesting for them. Thank you so much for the advice :)

I agree with everything that these people have said myself as well!

Making your hand a recognisable and friendly thing can really help in the long run before you even begin to ask them to step up! Putting your hand in the cage and just moving it around every single day even multiple times can help them get used to it. Don't jerk it about but move slowly and confidently. When taming a pair of any kind of bird, it will be hard. These birds are probably bonded to each-other, and will do anything to protect one another, including attacking you. You need to make sure you can offer something to BOTH of them at all times to make sure that they know, together, that you are a good thing. Offer lots of treats, and spend time with them.
When I am gone at school or work I play audio books and have movies on for my bird to watch and listen to. When I'm doing homework at home I will set a chair right next to his cage or stand and read to him what I am doing or even the book I need to take notes on. You can include them even if they cannot come out of the cage. Let them get used to you.
Taming can be hard when the birds are flighted, but it is not impossible. I believe in a controlled environment it can be much better when the bird is flighted, so that if it is spooked, it can have the option of running away for safety instead of being stuck with you.
Just try to get to know your birds and let them get to know you as well before trying to ask them to step up, because that can be difficult. It may take a week, it may take a year, but it will happen and it will be so rewarding!!

How many birds do you own? ( if applicable ): 5 in total so far. Three budgies, and two zebra finches.
How long have you had them?: I've had my finches for about a year now, and the budgies I just got today.
What brings you to the bird chat?: Cause birds are absolutely precious floofs.

There were three different colored ones at petsmart. I couldn't help myself honestly.
I'll try to get a decent picture once they've settled down enough to be held.

I'd like to get birds from shelters, but we live in the middle of scenic nowhere as it is, so even getting to the closest pet store takes about 30-40+ minutes. Given the traffic isn't nuts.

xxx I have a question for anyone who can help out with my situation:

My budgie, Basil, is.. a biter. He likes to sit on my glasses and nibble my eyebrows - I tried the training idea of ignoring it and not making any sound, but he didn't get bored and eventually just bit harder, drawing blood, so now I just don't let him near my face. And I think that he is taking that as a game to try and get to the face. Any advice for how to stop him biting me? I wouldn't mind him sitting on my glasses if it wasn't a painful experience xD
