He might be good but you would still need to supervise if he wasn't in case the cat took a dislike to the dog and scratched it or whatever and the dog retaliated. poor dog could easily kill it accidentally if he tried to play with it too roughly too.... although i think you should still get one, i agree with the shelter cats, as tehy're older, and just remember to take precautions.

Yeah, if I didn't have Rio, I would have probably already have gotten a cat. And like you said, he is a very powerful breed, and he can easily kill the cat. I think I should take some time off work so I can introduce the cat and Rio properly.

What you want to do is seperate them at first and then start short controled meetings like in a room neither one have been in very much or taking a cloth and rubbing the cats scent on it and then rubbing it on furniture to introduce the cats scent to the dogs living area.

I think I'm gonna think this through carefully, I know owning a cat is a huge responsibility...

Hey I just wanted to say that I haven't been active on CS for a while and I've missed out on a lot of pets so if you're looking to trade some recent pets for older ones feel free to send me a suggestion.

Indoor, I live in an apartment in the city. I definitely don't want my cat roaming the city streets.

It is most likely used to the close environment of a shelter cage, so it would be best to keep him/her confined in a small safe room for the first few days, especially with Rio roaming the house.
I'll probably be expecting the cat to be skittish and timid when around me or Rio, probably because it's new.
