I think it depends on what kind of animal it is. If it is big, poisenios, has large teeth, and can eat you in one gulp. Then no, but if it something small like a rodent, amphibian, reptile, or fish I don't mind. If people don't do their research of the animal though, then I advise no. I do research before I buy any animal even if I already had one, I still do my research.

Not all reptiles are small. People own reticulated pythons, which are what.. 10, 20 feet long as adults? And I plan on getting an Emperor Scorpion some time in the future, would you be against me owning a couple because they are mildly venomous?
I am fine with exotic pet ownership, as long as you give the animal proper care and any needed stimulation. I own three - no, two - exotic animals, a corn snake and a ball python.
PLEASE BE AWARE.
Not all exotic pets are taken from the wild and plopped into your homes. You can get captive bred specimens of say, Ball Pythons, pretty easily.

The largest snake in the world was 14 meters, which is... about 46 feet long. It weighs almost 500lbs, and it's a WC adult retic in Indonesia. That alone could easily kill a full grown man (considering a 16ft Burm could), and yet there's a significantly smaller percentage of attacks by large snakes than there is of dog bites. If we go solely off of animals that can kill you, that means we can no longer have dogs over 50lbs, cattle, horses, or pigs as all of those kill more people a year than exotic pets.
And I agree with Grimace, anyone who is 100% against exotic animal ownership does not know much about those animals or their husbandry and needs.
