Rules
1. Almost all forms of fiction are accepted. Exceptions are poetry (prose poems are okay) and
fanfiction (story may feature CS pets though). Any format, any theme - write a fully-cited
Wikipedia page for all I care, if you can pull it off.
2. Minimum of 100 words. There is no maximum.
3. Please don't question the judges' decisions. By the time they're published, all the prizes will
have been handed out anyway. If you have a problem (e.g. plagiarism) with a certain piece, PM
me before the results are published.
4. All stories must be written by you for the contest.
5. One entry per person.
6. If an entry is incomplete by the end of the contest, but the entrant still wants it judged, it'll
be treated as if it were complete: for instance, an abrupt ending will be considered a flaw of
the piece.

Prizes
1st place - 70C$
2nd place - 50C$
3rd place - 30C$
4th place - 2010 rare (courtesy of a donation by brightwatch)
If 1st-3rd place prefers pets, it will be worked out through PM.

Format
Each judge will PM me their ratings, on a scale of 1-10, for each story. The average (mean)
of these will be taken to determine which has the highest rating. The piece with the
highest mean rating will be given the first prize, and so on.

Everyone who opts in will receive a critique from at least one judge, so that even those
who wind up not winning will gain something from the experience. This will be
organised through a Google Sheets spreadsheet with every entry. Neither the critiques
nor the ratings will be publicised, but the critiques will be privately sent to entrants.

If there are any entries that end up being extremely controversial among the judges, or
which have outliers, we'll discuss to make sure the entrant gets a fair result.

To give an idea of what each rating means: 1 is the lowest, and signifies "very bad, but
could be worse". 5 is "mediocre; no glaring flaws but could be easily improved." 10 is
"almost perfect; no flaws at all and very hard to improve." (The far extremes are
deliberately excluded; 10 doesn't signify "literally the work of god." From past contests,
nobody ever hit those extremes anyway, and most people got clumped into a 5-7
range. This is my attempt to diversify the ranges.)

Q;; I don't know if this in the category of CS pets or not, but I'm in an rpg on CS called Catacombs, and I'm wondering if I could use my character(s) from that?

It's just been so hectic and my time for writing was taken up by some spontaneous issues :(

@drift. Yep - if they're your own characters, that you developed yourself, it's fine!

Edit to clarify, since someone else asked about it: the creator of the visual design doesn't matter; you can also use characters from closed species for the same reason. You can also refer to basic lore for these like "they live in deserts" or "they eat insects". But using unique settings, magic systems, etc from others - that's when I consider it fanfiction. I realise it may sometimes be a thin line, but I'll try to be understanding toward edge cases.
