~Song~
Need You, Do I?
Oh no, Oh no, Oh no, Ohhh nooo.
Oh no, Oh no, Oh no, I said, Ohhh nooo.
I just don’t understand,
What just happened?
My life is crumbling to pieces,
In a matter of seconds.
My heart is aching,
It hurts so bad.
I need you by my side,
Again, Again..
Life is confusing, Ya, It’s complicated.
Wish I had listened,
When they said love was over-rated.
Cause now I’m feeling this,
Pain in my heart, Ya, Pain in my heart.
And I just dunno what to do or say.
It seems he changed me in every way!
I just don’t understand,
What just happened?
My life is crumbling to pieces,
In a matter of seconds.
My heart is aching,
It hurts so bad.
I need you by my side,
Again, Again..
You said you loved me, You’re such a liar.
And you’re a player, Both day and night ya.
Cause when you told me you were out with your friends,
I know you’re really in your Mercedes Benz.
And that ain’t your bestie in the passenger seat.
That’s some chic, is she replacing me?
I just don’t understand,
What just happened?
My life is crumbling to pieces,
In a matter of seconds.
My heart is aching,
It hurts so bad.
I need you by my side,
Again, Again..
Cause I no longer need you,
I no longer want you,
And without you in my life,
I’m finally living.
Finally doing what I was meant to do,
Now I’m the person that I was meant to be.
Yeah. I’m finally living.
I finally understand,
What has happened.
My life was crumbling to pieces,
In a matter of seconds.
My heart was aching,
It hurt so bad.
I don’t need you by my side,
Again, Again.
Cause, now I don’t need you, do I?
~Poem~
Can you see the lies within my eyes,
When I say that I'm okay.
I try to hard to be who I'm not;
Its all just a big facade.
Everything I'm going through,
Everywhere I've been.
Why can no one see past this fake happiness?
Do they really think it's natural,
This happy bubbly girl.
Or do they really just not care?

~My Super Story~
Hi. My name is Phoebe, Phoebe Secret. But around the city I’m known by another name, “The Lil Shifter.” I have a gift that seems strange to some but incredible to others. I’ve always loved animals and my “special abilities” help me get closer to them and understand them better. You see, I can shape shift into and talk to just about every animal species known to mankind. But that’s not all. I can also have, at any given time, say the speed of a cheetah, the eyes of a hawk, and the claws of a tiger. I can seem to be half human and half several various animals, even all at once. I can also talk to animals in several different ways. I can mind speak with the creatures, putting my thoughts into their heads and waiting for the response, I can just talk to them in my human form and understand what their reply is. I can be that animal or any animal really and be able to talk to and understand what the other creature is telling me. But the thing is, I wasn’t always this way. This is my story.
My parents were killed in a car crash when I was only three years old, so I was taken to an adoption center. A man came in one day, very tall with a squared jaw and somewhat cold, blue eyes. It was the day before I turned seven, so I was extremely excited when I found out that the man had decided to adopt me. He took me to my new home on my seventh birthday and I thought my life couldn’t get better. But boy was I wrong. He showed me a laboratory that took up at least half of the large house, and I cringed at the sight of so many pointy needles. The man, my new father, told me his name was Dr. King, and that I was to address him as that and that only. The thing was, he wouldn’t tell me anything more about him, and I can assure you that I asked many questions, for I was and still am a very curious person. One day he took me to a small white room and told me to lay down on the thing in the middle of that room which looked like a cross between a bed and a stretcher. Instantly, I became nervous as several other people entered the room, handing my adoptive father a couple of needles, all extremely large. Now, I’m pretty sure you can figure out what happened next.
Though I didn’t know it at the time, I was injected with a hybrid DNA of different animals, and every day of my life since then. Eventually I got used to the needles. Dr. King made sure I was properly fed, cared for, and schooled so the County Officers, when they came by to check on how my new “father” and I were doing, would suspect nothing out of the ordinary. My life went on this way for years, but my days were so blurred together that I couldn’t tell when one day ended and another started. I was never allowed to see the sun, or given a clock to tell time, and I was never allowed to leave the house. That’s why I was so surprised, for when I was the age of thirteen years old, Dr. King just took me and dropped me off in the middle of nowhere to fend for myself. His plan was to see how I would survive on my own. If I could that is, and how society would accept me.
At first, I was pretty scared and just sat on the ground, shaking from my fear. But slowly, dozens of different animals began to appear out of nowhere, surrounding me. The creatures ranged from large grey wolves to tiny chipmunks to great horned owls, and all seemed worried about me. What surprised me most of all is that none of them fought each other. I would have expected the wolves to attack the deer, yet they stood by each other, looking at me, like best friends. Soon, the animals all started pulling on my clothes, touching me then running off, stopping and looking back at me. I opened up my mind, which I had blocked off earlier, and the thoughts of every single animal suddenly barraged my mind. I screamed out of shock and grasped my head, trying to concentrate on one voice at a time. Each one I heard seemed to be saying the same thing, “Follow us.” Pretty soon, I was standing up, tearing off after the animals, which were all running in the same direction. I started to mumble to myself, “Where are they taking me? What do they want me to find? Where am I going?” But still, I pushed past my doubts and followed, giving myself cheetah speed and horse stamina to keep me going. After awhile, the animals all stopped short on a hill that overlooked a small meadow and made an opening in the middle of them, giving me room to walk in front of them all. So, of course, I did, and as soon as I looked down into the meadow, I was filled with awe.
I rubbed my eyes roughly, having trouble believing what I saw in front of me. There, filling the whole meadow, were tents, fires, buckets filled with water, and people. I had found a homeless camp, but not just any homeless camp, I thought to myself as I studied the people from afar. They all seemed to have some kind of strangeness to them. Some had wings like an eagle, some had paws, some had big, furry ears, and so on, and so on. Instantly, I gave myself wings and soared down into the meadow, the animals all following me. But a beautiful white Pegasus stayed closer then the others. I landed myself in front of the largest tent, and made my wings disappear. The flying horse landed next to me, letting out a piercing whinny that rang through the camp, causing all to turn their heads in our direction. A tall teenage guy, who looked around 19, came out of the large tent, striped orange and black tail flicking around behind him as he started to talk to me. He said his name was Logan and that the camp was their home, a place they called The Camp of the Unique.
For some reason, I felt strangely at home here in this place. As I followed Logan around, I was introduced to everyone. Logan told me that everyone in the camp had been tested on by Dr. King in various research facilities, and that they were all under the age of 20 except one woman. As soon as Logan introduced me to her, he simply left without another word. The woman’s name was Ruth, and she was the last person I met in the Camp. She was just sitting on a rock as she hand stitched a blanket, bright colored venom dripping from her snake-like fangs. I will never forget what that little old lady, who had to be at least 60 years old, said to me. “You are special, child. You can do so much. You, and only you, can stop Dr. King. God told me you were coming, but I kept praying that you would come soon.” That day, Ruth told me the story of a man named Jesus the son of God, and I knew that I was the way I was because of God, that Ruth would help me fulfill my destiny with my God-given talents.
Every chance I got, I worked on my “Special Abilities,” getting steadily better and better at controlling them, with the help of multiple people each and every day. Ruth told me that I should make a disguise, for I was almost ready to go out and help other teens stay away from King. Slowly, that little old lady began to help me hand sew my disguise. When I had finally finished it, I had a bright, almost peacock blue, sleeve-less top with the letters LS in the middle in bright white. I wore a blue skirt, as long as my knees, with the same LS marking in the left-hand corner, along with white leggings and bright blue boots. Of course, I couldn’t let my true identity be seen, by anyone, so I also made a mask. It was a bright blue mask embezzled with dark blue rhinestones. It had been a year now since I had first joined the Camp, and as soon as my outfit was finished, Logan took me to the nearest city. It was the city he said King got most of his “experiments” from, San Francisco, California.
Logan left me at the very edge of the city, and I transformed myself into a simple mix-breed dog, without a collar or anything of the sort. As I was jogging along, I gave myself the hearing of an elephant, just to make sure I didn’t miss any important sounds. I hadn’t been walking for even five minutes when I heard a scream that was cut off, then a struggle. I bolted instantly, pumping myself with the speed of a cheetah, and in a matter of seconds, I saw a big, burly man holding a struggling girl, trying to tie her wrists. I snarled, transforming into a Siberian Tiger as I roared, leaping up from the side and barreling the man over. I snapped my jaws right next to his head, scraping at his arms with my claws. I let him go and he tore off, me roaring at him loudly as I stood on hind legs, “Tell your boss his most special subject is just dying to see him again!” I looked at the terrified girl and walked over to her, transforming into my human form again, in my disguise of course. I helped her up and asked if she was okay. She nodded blindly, whispering, “Who… Who are you?” I just smiled down at her and said, “Me? I’m The Lil Shifter. I don’t think they’ll bother you again.” I shook my body and wings sprouted from my back. I leapt into the air and swiftly flew away, back to camp, without another word.
Now I’m eighteen and I’ve been using my powers to keep teens away from King for four years. Before I started doing this, before I joined Camp, before I knew Christ, I only saw myself as a kid with problems who’s life didn’t matter. But now, when I look at my reflection, I remind myself of who I really am, and what I can do. I’m like a superhero from one of those comic books, like Batman or Spiderman, but the difference between them and me is simple. They are just imaginary people created by someone with a big imagination to entertain others. But me, I’m the real deal. And someday, I’m going to find Dr. King and show him just what he created, just who he’s messing with when he messes with me or any other teen in my city, and he’s going to wish he hadn’t adopted me when I was little. He’s not going to get a chance to hurt any other kids the way he hurt me. Not if I can help it!
