i wanted to try a portrait of hurricane because i need to work on my digital horse anatomy. i went for a more sketchy style for this piece c:

I would have liked to do more with my entry, but it didn't really happen, so I figured it is better to share what I have instead of missing the deadline because I wasn't 100% satisfied. My challenge to myself was to make clear lineart, something I sometimes struggle with, and to also use lineart for the background

Gave this another shot! I wasn't completely happy with how the last entry came out. While I was, and still am, proud of how it turned out for all that I was trying to do, I think I went so far out of my comfort zone to embrace the challenge that it lost some quality. Since the deadline was extended, I did some studies on horses and got some refs together that I could frankenstien into the pose I wanted, and then I tried to work a little more comfortably (single character design is, after all, my passion). I ended up changing how I shade for this, using both hard and soft shading, and trying to go out of my comfort zone in the background and light sources like my previous entry, and work with some color changes that were more complimentary for eachother. I think this time around it turned out significantly better than the last! Not only that, but I think I had more fun with this one. Between the horse studies and the attempts to relax, I think I made a huge improvement and I'm very proud of how this piece turned out!

I chose an Irish wolfhound as the base for Azrael-as-a-hellhound due to them being one of the largest breeds of dog and known for strength
my first step was drawing out the basic characteristics of an Irish wolfhound in different poses until I was comfortable with the poses

my next step was drawing out all the poses on a separate piece of paper so I could compare them

then I drew several version of the pose chosen and developed it further
x
after I was happy with my development of the pose I drew several smaller versions and added Azrael's key features to them

next I drew a fully developed version with all features
x
I then drew a pencil outlined version and coloured it in
x x
before outlining it for the final version taking in total 11 hours and 8 sheets of paper
