Flying Paws Training Event (Mkali)

Postby Yamaneko » Wed Jul 22, 2015 12:36 am

Welcome to the

Flying Paws Training Event

This event will offer +10 speed and +5 obedience.
During this event you Mkali will show their speed by chasing some frisbees* and their obedience by bringing them back to you. We'll meet on a big meadow (with some shady trees ) and have some fun together. All kinds of dog discing levels are welcome, beginners who just play around as well as high jumping pros. Some snacks and drinks are already prepared.
*As I recently saw a completely blind Mkali I want to add that we have some special balls with bells inside, too. So every Mkali can participate.

Story:
"I arrived at Flying Paws Training Event earlier than expected, an excited pack of Mkali hoping over one another in the back of the truck. I opened the tail gate and watched them flood the field, paws trampling over other paws, all drowned out by the yapping of excited amateurs. The more experienced of my pack stayed close as I gathered my supplies, though their tails still wagged with all the pleasantries of puppies. I still wasnt sure who I was going to work with in the event. Tally, of course, since I had yet to see her in action, but as for the rest, I just wasnt certain they needed it. I shooed them all back to the truck and snapped a lead onto Tally, coaxing her along toward the event circle. The pack swarmed around the vehicle as if it were a playground, tiring themselves out one by one as they hoped back into the truck bed and laid down lazily. I wasnt really concerned about them getting into to much trouble here, as long as Psycho was there to set an example. Tally whimpered a bit as we got farther from the pack, not being the kind of dog to enjoy the one on one training as much as I would like her to. I pulled out her disc, a shiny silver color with swirling black tribal markings along the side, and wiggled it in front of her nose. She wagged her tail and squinted her eyes at me, expecting there to be some sort of work involved. I chuckled and pulled a treat out of my pocket, tossing it in the air for her. She caught it with grace, landing lightly on her paws, and coming back to me without needing a single command. When we reached the training field I removed her leash and did a few warm up throws, more for myself than Tally. She seemed to be having fun, even with so many strangers showing up around us to distract her focus. Once we had done our throws, she was scored just for fun, showing she had a near perfect performance. I nuzzled her and gave her plenty of praise for the job well done, leashing her up to return to the truck."

Story:
"As I got back to the truck I noticed there was an extra dog there that hadnt come with me to the event. I recognized her as my new pup Tavi, who had been imported just a few days ago. I hadnt expected her to arrive for another couple of days, as customs needed her to have been checked over by a vet first, but there she was tethered to the bars of the truck bed. I unleashed Tally and approached the new dog, who was being sniffed over by the pack. She was growling and snapping at them, more out of annoyance than actual aggression. I shooed the dogs away and ordered them back to the truck, and then I noticed a note pinned to Tavi's leash. It was small, and read simply 'Dropping off your dog. I had an emergency back at the office. You werent around so I just left her here. Hope thats alright.' I flipped the note over and a hastily scribbled 'Donivan' was written as a signature, telling me it was from my personal vet. I hadnt the slightest idea how or why, but I was too excited to meet the new dog to care. I stuffed the note in my pocket and knelled in front of Tavi, sticking my hand out towards her nose. She gave it a good sniff and then licked my knuckles, inviting me to give her a good petting. I pulled a spare frisbee out of the supply bag and brought it to her to score her reaction. She immediately perked up, ready to play, so I undid her leash and threw it for her. After a few throws it was pretty obvious she knew the game well, so I just shrugged and decided to enter the event with her as well. I kept her on a leash until we reached the field just in case, as I wasnt sure how obedient she was just yet. She didnt seem to distracted by the other dogs, though she did let out a few growls when one ventured too close to me. I took off her leash and gave her a few good warm up throws, and them we started for real. She missed a few, but always brought it back to me, so I counted that as a victory. When we were done I led her back to the truck, where she was greeted by the swarming pack all over again. She was so tired she didnt even bother growling, just hoped up in the truck bed and laid down with the older dogs, like a good little Mkali."

Story:
I arrived at the training event in the late morning. Not as nervous as the last time but with twice as much dogs in my jeep. If my pack grew more I'd need a bigger car.
Anyways, there already were a lot of Mkali owners on the field, most of them prepared with colourful frisbee discs. The excitement out there immediately transferred a bit to my own Mkali. Four wagging tails waited impatiently to get out of the car.
I decided to start with Kira. As usually she was the most calm and the less motivated one of my pack. Even Atreus, who was still a bit too young for this event, was more excited than her. But I was sure she'd have some fun, too. She just behaved more mature than necessary.
I grabbed her favourite disc and together we went to the throwing areas. We waited a bit to come in. As imagined Kira just pretended to be unmotivated because she immediately chased the disc when I threw it. She caught it shortly before it touched the ground. Then she stopped midway and looked at me. I got the strange feeling she wanted to test if she could keep the disc or if she really had to bring it to me. I called her, one single time and maybe a little bit harsh. Luckily she realized that it was not the time for fights and bringing the frisbee back to me could result in more fun for her. So she came back to me and we continued with some more throws. After a while I decided that it was enough because I was worried about her bad leg. Instead of overdrawing we returned to the pack where a much more relaxed Kira lay down between her buddies.

Story:
Glimmer was the next in the line. Although she was recently pregnant I decided a few throws won't do harm. And it really seemed she wanted to have a bit action. So I took her shiny silver disc and she followed me tail wagging to the fields.
Glimmer even jumped up and down before I did my first throw. She was really excited but in a good way. I did a few short throws for warming up and she fetched nearly all of them in the air. When we came to the longer throws she really showed off her name. She literally flew over the grass. I must admit I was a bit proud of her. There was no competition at all but Glimmer did her best to catch as many disc as possible. She was really motivated and it was a pleasure to look at her. After a while I went over to vary the throwing distances a bit. And from time to time I faked a throw. But Glimmer was hard to outsmart. I was sure she would be able to continue but noon came closer and I wanted to play with Rumble before sun got too hot. Therefore I made a final long throw and allowed Glimmer to keep her frisbee disc. She carried it happily when we returned to the pack.

Wooooo! I have been looking forward to entering this!

Owner: VampireMessageNinja
Mkali: CCK Storm Front (aka Stormy!)
Kennel: Climbing Crup Kennel (WIP thread, is registered)
Disc picture: Depicting his body pup-like unproportioned, as he is barely a young dog by now
Story:
Dark clouds rolled past the window as my car rolled onto the parking area. Stormy sat on the seat next to me, ears twitching in excitement, head pushed through your window, his tongue lolling about. "Like storms, do you? Let's hope your namesake waits until we are done!" We headed towards the competition area, Stormy jumped around me, ears held up straight and head flying from left to right. When another dog came close, he gave a sharp bark, running right into me. "Hey, calm down Stormy!" I petted his head and listened to the announcer. Finally it was our turn. "Go!", I commanded, throwing the first frisbee. We were allowed to use our own frisbees, so I had chosen Stormy's favourite. It was of a blinding shade of light blue, with pink-rimmed flowers, which had red petals and a yellow middle. The neon green leaves were attached to the pink stems, which framed Stormy's name, which I had added later with the same pink. It had been my old childhood frisbee until Stormy discovered it for himself. Speaking of which, the young dog just returned with it in his jaw. "Good boy! Again!" It continued like that for a while, with Stormy catching nearly all of them. In the end, we returned to the car, the poor boy was utterly tired and immediately lay down on his seat. I gave his head a soft scratch and watched as the first raindrops wetted the earth and a resounding groll could be heard all over the place. I leaned back and enjoyed a few moments of silence.
