New Board: CS Trading Guides & Help

Postby Simon » Sun Dec 15, 2024 7:52 am

We have added a new board to better separate CS trading guides/help threads from normal CS discussion. We took this opportunity to update the names and rules for some of our popular threads, please make sure to read through everything carefully before posting in the new board! Please direct all questions and concerns to the thread here!

Here is the info from our guide quoted for your reference:

Since the CS Trading Guides & Help board is new and many of the common threads used for getting help with values and trades have now been re-made and edited for this new board, this thread is here as a general guide of what changes have been made for the new board, as well as an FAQ further down which explains what this board is for and how to use it.

This thread is planned only to be a temporary addition to this board and may be removed later on. You may use this thread to ask questions or for clarification on something, however some questions may be directed to be submitted as help tickets. If you own a thread that is currently in the CS Discussions board and you think it belongs in this board, please report it or send in a ticket to ask if it can be moved.

Changes made to threads moved into this board

This is a quick run-down on any threads that were changed or updated by site staff when moved into this board. This will include if the name of the thread was changed and if any rules within the thread were changed. If you plan to use any of these threads please be sure to read over the rules on the thread itself before posting, even if you have participated in them previously.

The "Is this a fair trade?" Thread is now the Trading Advice Thread
  • We now require that all advice given on this thread must include an explanation of that advice and not only simple 'fair'/'unfair' statements
  • We will allow discussion and disagreements on advice in this thread so long as it is kept civil and on-topic
The “How much is this pet worth?” Thread is now the "How Much Would You Value This Pet?" Thread
  • A rule has been added that you may not repost questions on the same page, and a clarification that double-posting is not allowed.
  • We now ask that users give as much detail as possible when answering questions, and that if you are referencing a specific trade or guide that it be linked.
The 'How much is this pet worth in C$?' Thread is now the "How Much Would You Value This Pet/Item in C$?" Thread
  • This thread is now for both pets and items, you no longer need to provide the pet value of an item to post it here
  • A rule has been added that you may not repost questions on the same page, and a clarification that double-posting is not allowed.
  • We now ask that users give as much detail as possible when answering questions, and that if you are referencing a specific trade or guide that it be linked.
The "How Much Is This Item Worth"? Thread is now the "How Much Would You Value This Item?" Thread
  • Previous there were no rules for this thread, it now has the same rules as the other 'how much would you value' threads
The VR and OMGSR Successful Trades Thread
  • We now require that all posted trades include a short explanation on how the involved pets or items were valued
  • An optional template is now included to help guide users on what information to include when posting trades here.

FAQ

This FAQ is just to cover common questions, if you have questions not answered here or want more information on this board in general, you may ask questions on this thread, or send in a help ticket for assistance. If you want to know if something follows our rules or not, or want to ask about a specific thread/post, please report it or submit a ticket to site staff directly.

Please note that site staff do not endorse any specific way to value pets or items. Words like 'value' may be used as a general term just referring to how each individual user personally values something, not as a single objective or unchanging value.

Why was this new board made?
Site staff felt that having a separate board specifically for trading guides and getting help with trades and valuing pets would make it easier both for new and old users to find resources for properly evaluating trades they receive, better come to their own decisions on how to value their own pets, as well as to have a space where it will be easier to find various user-made guides on valuing pets and items.

What sort of threads belong in this board?
Please see the CS Trading Guides & Help Board Information Thread for a full list. This board is specifically for user-made guides on values and for threads to ask for or share opinions on values. As such, discussion threads are not included here unless they are to discuss values of specific pets/items. General discussion threads on trading as a whole belong in the CS Discussions board. Threads here are allowed to have discussions (such as trading guides), as long as it is on-topic to the thread.

Can I make my own thread in this board?
    Any user may make a thread in this board, but you should make sure that what you want to make is not already covered by an existing thread, here is a quick rundown of what to do for different types of threads;
    • I want to ask for help on a trade or how to value something: There are already threads which exist for this, please use one of those instead of making a new thread.
    • I want to make a thread where people can ask questions to others: Many of these are already covered by existing threads, we suggest sending in a help ticket first, staff can let you know if it would be considered redundant or if it would be ok to make.
    • I want to make my own trading guide: The guide should already be at least 50% completed before posting here, this should be an actual guide and not just an outline of a possible guide. If you want to start a discussion on a possible or incomplete guide, please post it in CS Discussions instead. We still encourage users to discuss guides posted here and when you post your guide here you should understand not everyone may agree with it or choose to follow it.

What do I do if I think someone is giving bad advice or posting trades that are unfair?
Please see the Staff Trading Guide for a more in-depth explanation on our stance on trade fairness. Our goal here is to allow users to form their own opinions on how they want to value things, we do not consider it in the spirit of the site to enforce one specific way of valuing things. Because of this the range of trades and advice allowed on this board will be rather wide. We will remove posts specifically breaking rules of the threads here or of site rules. If you feel a specific post should not be allowed you may report it to us, if you request we can also inform you whether the post is or is not allowed so you can have a better idea of what to report in the future.

I want to help answer question on values, whats the best way to do that?
Anyone may share their opinions on how they value certain pets or items, even if their opinions may not follow the most commonly accepted values for those. As such, it is important to supplement your opinion with an explanation of why or how you value it in this way (experience, seeing other trades, using a guide, etc). If you follow a certain trading guide, link that. If you are giving an opinion such as 'I traded my pet for x amount', link the trade where that happened, and make it clear if you or the other participant were intentionally overpaying or if it was with a friend (we recommend against sharing overpay trades that are very far off from how you would normally value the pet/item). Staff may remove posts if we feel they do not provide adequate explanations for opinions given. The purpose here is to help people come to an informed decision on how to value their own pets and items.
