🞮 friday's collection // naming all my pets! 📼📞🔪

hey! I'm Friday, I'm an older user that poofs in and out a lot. when I first started playing, I named /all/ of my pets, mostly nonsense names, and sometimes after users with funny-sounding usernames from another forum petsite I used to play on.

while I don't aim to be sweaty and complete my collection (though I still try to pick up missed outcomes), I've made it my goal to give individual names to all the pets in my collection! I've done similar things in other games (all my Pokemon in PoGo and the mainline games are named), but this is the largest task I've taken on so far!

for me, this is a relaxing and fun way to engage with the site/trading! this is mostly to track my personal progress as I work my way through my collection, but also a convenient way to keep track of names I've already used/links to threads and other things I use a lot when naming.

I don't expect many people to go through this, but if you're reading this, and you're not me, glad to have you for the ride!

in order to "simplify" the way I'm keeping track of names, I've created some self-imposed guidelines/"rules"/strategies for coming up with/archiving names! if you ever find yourself naming thousands of pets, or if you're just curious about the process, these could help you out!

🞮 usually, all the names will be put in lower-case, to help distinguish from pets that may have been named with the site's name generator (these usually start with a capital letter).

🞮 unless I'm placing a pet in dress-up or they are very, very special to me, names won't include any special fonts or symbols. when I archive and link them, pets with special fonts/symbols in their names will be listed in the site's normal font and with no symbols. this helps me quickly look them up, and prevents the name from being unreadable in the archive if I'm on another device.

🞮 as an extension of the above rule, having an emoji next to the pet's name is indicative of a special group that they're in outside of a normal collection group, i.e. my hoards, which often have different naming rules. for example, my lisa frank themed hoard all have the names of lisa frank characters, and my slowdive-themed hoard all have names of slowdive songs :]

(I also do this, because out of the context of their themes, a lot of them sound pretty weird ngl, and while I'm ok with people knowing that I'm crazy on the level of naming thousands of pixel pets and archiving them, I'm not crazy on the level of spontaneously naming my pets 'the sadman')

🞮 no two pets will have the same name (unless it's related to an OC/sona). while I'll try to avoid different spellings of the same name, I may very rarely do it if I'm making a pun/joke with the name.

🞮 names will usually be based on existing words/names/characters, I don't make up words/names!

🞮 i don't use any kind of name generators to name my pets! wikipedia is, however, my most-used site when I'm trying to pick a name lol

🞮 only pets outside my trading groups will be named. some of my existing collection groups have passed 1,000 pets and looking at my trade group... that thing, it scares me.

🞮 i move all named pets into a "holding" group before they're put on the thread! it helps me update the thread with a lot of names in one go vs. make a ton of little updates. also really helps keep track of how many i've named numbers-wise and keeps named pets from getting lost in my other groups.

yay! we reached pet number 500! I haven't been posting every single group of pets I've named, since that would be a handful of pets on some days and massive lists on the other, but this is a fun milestone I'd like to celebrate! might do a special dressup for them eventually to commemorate, but this is pet 500, dúlaman!

they're named after the song because endless ocean blue world has a very special place in my heart, and it fit their design very well imo :]

pet 750! I had a lot of pets named before I initially decided to name /all/ my pets, so this milestone took slightly longer, but here we are! may work on a dressup for them as well, but pet 750: revenant!

updated the top post as well, and I'm currently working on a spreadsheet of some details about they pets I've named so far! I love weird little stats, so I may end up crunching some stuff about lines, events, etc.! slow going, but we'll see :]

wow! it's been a little bit! officially, the last time I updated the names posts was on 9/22/24, so I'll be counting that as the day I hit 1k even though this is a just a little belated lol. this pet was a big milestone for my collection, so I also held off on naming some pets at the time so she could be my 1k! this is pet 1000, bathory!





vampires are actually one of my special interests, so I thought it would make a cool dressup for her!

though it's been a while, I haven't slacked off naming-wise! something I found really helpful was a holding group for pets I'd named, but haven't added to the list. that being said.... expect a large update very soon as I'm really close to hitting another big milestone!

it's that time again! we're at 1250! (well, technically 1260. oops!) working on adding a bunch of pets I've named to the thread while they've been in the holding group, so it's just a matter of updating the thread before we hit another big milestone!

i love keeping these dressups relatively simple, so I don't sweat them too much. sometimes, it takes me a long time to pick a good pet or name to use for an update, since I find editing the thread to be a little tedious if I were to add every pet immediately after I named them. oberon was very easy to name for me, and easy to pick for a good update dressup!

fun fact: i actually keep a little list of words/names in my phone's notes app that I really want to use so I don't forget!

well, I've been really excited to hit this milestone for a while, and it's finally here! pet 1500! this milestone actually coincided with another one; having to split the thread again! things may be moving around between posts for a little bit, but progress is progress. I was really excited to choose this pet for pet 1500! this is throckmorton!





throcky is actually named after a jackalope shoulder mount I have irl! here's a picture of him from when my partner and I first got him! (linked in case taxidermy isn't your thing)

I also just passed the 2nd anniversary of giving this a shot and making this thread in feb, which feels crazy, especially bc I totally forgot! I feel like there should be more names here. I'm going to rectify that lol.
