✿ Conformation Standard
Appearance
Temperament - lively, intelligent, keen, exceptional guard/herder, easy disposition
Head - wedge shaped, tapering muzzle, scissor bite, narrow nose, pricked v-shaped ears
Neck - medium length, well muscled, barely arched
Forequarters - moderately sloped, well muscled, elbows held close to the body, upright pasterns
Hindquarters - long, well muscled, pastern is short and vertical
Body - pronounced withers, short and sloped croup, moderate forechest, deep chest, square proportion
Feet - round, small, hard nails
Tail - set low, well covered with fur
Coat - hair on the face is short and smooth, densely curled fur on the body, feathering on the front legs and thighs
Height/Weight - ideal male is 16-19 inches and 24-33 pounds, ideal female is 15-18 inches and 18-26 pounds
✘ Minor Faults





Eyes - yellow eyes on black or merle coats and blue eyes in any colors besides merle
Nose - liver brown (excluding brown and brown merle dogs), flesh colored, or spotted nose color
White Markings - small chest or toe markings are undesirable in show dogs
✘ Major Faults
Any colors besides standard Mudi coats on show dogs are counted as deductions in competitions.





Albino - devoid of pigmentation
Brindle - pheomelanin striped through eumelanin
Irish White Spotting - white that crosses the neck, belly, legs, underside of tail, and a blaze through the face
Masked Yellow - fawn coat with a dark mask
Black and Tan - black or other eumelanin coat with tan points
✘ Non-Mudi Coats

Saddle - mudis don't carry the saddle gene
Creeping Saddle - same as above
Tricolor Saddle - same as above
Harlequin - black patches over a white base found in great danes only
Piebald - white usually crosses over the back
Extreme Piebald - an extreme form of piebald, similar to double merle
Ticked - mudis do not carry the ticked gene
Graying - dogs that gray retain their black nose, but mudis don't carry the greying gene
Double Merle - any adopted mudis were found as rescues but breeding to get a double merle is strongly discouraged

K series/A series/B D series/C series/E series/Se series/Tw series/M series/S series/Wh series
Eumelanin - black/brown and dilutions
Pheomelanin - sable, red, yellow
✿ K locus Dominant black and brindle series



K_ - dominant black where the A locus (red and yellow coats) is suppressed
kbr_ - brindle which allows eumelanin to stripe through pheomelanin
kk - neither dominant black nor brindle, allows the A locus to show
✿ A locus Agouti series




Ay_ - clear/tipped/shaded sable
aw_ - agouti where the back and sides are darker than fur on the stomach and legs
at_ - tan points
aa - recessive black
✿ B and D locus Black, brown, and dilution series



B_ - black coat, black nose
bb - brown coat, brown nose
D_ - normal undiluted coat
dd - dilution
B_dd - gray aka blue, gray nose
bbD_ - brown aka liver, brown nose
bbdd - graybrown aka isabella, graybrown nose
✿ C locus Albino series


C_ - non albino
cchcch - pheomelanin is lightened; tan point turns silver, yellow dogs turn white or cream
cece - extreme dilution of chinchilla, causes tan to become white yet eyes/nose/pawpads remain dark
cc - pink eyed albino
cbcb - blue eyed albino
✿ E locus Extension series

E_ - normal extension where the mudi can express eumelanin
ee - recessive red, no black on the dog
✿ Se locus Super extension series

Sese - coat with a mask
SeSe - coat with a mask and dark underbelly/legs
sese - dog without a mask gene
✿ Tw locus Tweed series

dog MUST be dominant for merle for tweed to show
Tw_ - tweed
twtw - no tweed
Tw_MM - tweed does not show on homozygous/double merles
✿ M locus Merle series

mm - no merle
Mm - merle
MM - double merle
✿ S locus White spotting series

SS - solid colored dog that may have minimum white markings on chest/feet/belly/neck
sisi - irish spotting with white that covers the legs, belly, neck, chest, tail tip but never over the back
Ssi - small white toe/chest/or face markings
✿ Wh locus Recessive white series

Wh_ - non recessive white
whwh - recessive white with dark nose/eyes, can only be bred with another recessive white to produce white offspring
