Tales of the Abyss Future PetsTotAF is a fanfic sequel I'm writing for the JRPG/Anime Tales of the Abyss that takes place in the distant future. It is very heavily based on a RP I did with a close friend, so I'm often embarrassed to share it since it involves the descendants of canon and original characters. Nevertheless, I love the characters dearly and think they really do have merit of their own.

A little background first: It has been some thousands of years after what became known as The End of the Score. The descendants of those heroes had children, who in turn had children and so on and so forth. Some of these lines blended over time, thus there are characters who can trace their lineages back to most of the Great Heroes. Who they are related to is a major part of the story, so I will be including it in their bios.
Main Cast
Pet's name: Rue Verdoso Auldrant
The young emperor of a united Auldrant, Rue deeply admires the great heroes of the past and wants nothing to more than to be remembered by others in the same way. He's playful, cheerful, and downright manipulative using his childishness as a facade to hide a mind that is always analyzing people. Because of this he is considered unconventional as a ruler and some doubt his confidence, but his small group of loyal friends stick with him because they don't want to find out what would happen if they didn't.
Genealogy: Being of the Auldrant family, Rue is a direct descendant of the Fabre, Gardios, and Flores lines. As is common in his family, he is a Seventh fonist with the ability to use hyperresonance and any of the other fonons (translation: he can use any element.) As emperor he has the Key of Lorelei, both a symbol of his position and a powerful weapon.
Pet's name: Jasper Lazuli Osborne
A bearer of what has become known as the "Balfour curse," Jasper is a recluse rejected by normal society and scoffed at by his peers for his uncanny talent for refining the work of others instead of inventing anything wholly original. He is bitter and not very sociable, but has found himself following Rue due to a combination of Rue's careful planning and his own morbid fascination with the unpredictable young emperor.
Geneaology: Being of the Osborne family, Jasper's "curse" is an inherited set of traits making him a prodigy at the cost of lacking empathy and proper social skills. Though not as severe a case as some of his ancestors, society deems all Balfours as something of a necessary evil; they are disgraceful and feared but no one can deny their contributions to technology and medicine.
Pet's name: Finnian Fayruz Fidei
Descended from a long line of loyal soldiers, Finnian was chosen by Rue to be his personal guard, a position of great honor and responsibility. His duty is to accompany his emperor everywhere which is by no means an easy task. He has been something like an older brother to Rue for almost his whole life and they share a very close bond. Because of this Finnian is often the only one who can rein Rue in and temper his behavior.
Geneaology: Coming from the Fidei line, Finnian has a long history of loyal soldiers and servants. Though technically nobility, members of his family are expected to take supporting roles to the royal family and only rise higher in station if they happen to marry a member of the royal families. While it means a comfortable life, he must also always consider his family's reputation and what repercussions his actions might have on it.
Pet's name: Azure
A mysterious figure, Azure never shares his full name or talks about his past or family. For reasons unknown, he is deeply dedicated to upholding the safety and stability of the world and the empire, which in turn means protecting the emperor himself. Whatever his secret is, it is one he is fully prepared to take to the grave if necessary, but it seems to have some connection to the former Malkuth empire.
Geneaology: Azure never discloses any information on his family line and will resist any attempts by anyone to find out, friends included. All that is known is that he physically appears to be of a Malkuth bloodline and he is a fourth fonist (uses water) which is common among the people of Malkuth.

Supporting Cast
Pet's name: Valice Valence Yvennes
A minor character, Valice is the pilot of the imperial airship. He was not originally intended to be a character, but other writers will understand that sometimes a character gains a life of their own. He has a passion for airships but is otherwise laid back and enjoys getting to visit places all over the world. Really the only reason I have a pet version of him is because this cat was too perfect for it to pass up.
