I originally said that I’d prefer them to be special releases like the zebras but upon thinking about it I’d have no problem with them being a regular part of normal litters if they weren’t pets that would be extremely popular regardless of rarity. Lions, dragons, pps and pets that stand out of the litter, like the Golden Gotcha, are hard to get even if they’re very common as everyone loves them and are more reluctant to trade their spares. Making them rare+ as part of a normal litter is overkill in my opinion.

I think more monthly rares would be super fun! I love a good challenge, and it would be nice for some of us newer players to be able to get our hands on some higher-value pets we can use to trade for older pets. I'd also love to see more outcomes randomly be a different species from the rest of the litter, those are such fun surprises.

As others might have mentioned, demand is already a huge site issue. I feel like releasing too many rares in litters could cause chaos and further discourage casual or newer players from playing. We all know we can’t have nice things without some being greedy and asking for much more than it’s realistically worth. It’s just frustrating to deal with if you want to collect without struggle.
I also worry that it might cause litter swapping issues. It’s already harder to swap monthly outcomes with the new rarity update. People are less likely to want to trade off unknown rarity pets if there’s a chance they have one that’s worth a lot more than the others. This could possibly be avoided if the rarer outcomes look obviously special.

I would rather have an easier time getting all the monthly pets that month than getting one more rare pet

I've found that I don't really enjoy trading, especially when it comes to more rare outcomes. My completionist brain needs the little checkmark next to the month, but the effort of getting there doesn't feel great most times, especially when, with outcomes like the pps lion, people would only accept or even expect outrageous overpay. Having spent many years on this site, I much prefer pet collecting thats easier over more challenging, maybe with limiting the challenging outcomes to events and special occasions. Whereas a seemingly rarer monthly outcome just makes me want to ignore it (and hope it gets a rarity thats lower than what people initially assume it to be), instead of wanting to try harder to get it. CS never felt like a game that should be "hard", and we already have old pets with forever rising rarities that are out of reach for casual players, and adding more of them just for the sake of making collecting harder would be rather disappointing to me.

i think a rare pet every few months sounds best! it's something to look for and get excited about between events/stores/etc, and i think a realistic way for people who like trading to get involved when they don't have older rares to trade around
too many and they're not as special to anticipate, and some people may end up overthinking it and want to trade for multiple outcomes of every outcome to be SURE they get it before it goes rare... but every few months and the anticipation is lower, and closer to what we already get (while still being a fun improvement)
my only concern is players who overpay by ridiculous amounts to get what they want- the reason the gold dog and july pps are (nearly) impossible to find for a fair price... not that i think there's anything that can be done about that realistically

Gentle counterpoint, I think demand is only a partial issue. The issue overall is CS owners not stepping in for what has been for years now a value crisis. Other sites of a similiar premise that encountered this resolved it by having the exact numbers of pets in circulation availiable to view, so value you could be looked at much more firmly.
I think CS really needs to release the numbers, as of now regardless how many rares are released a month, demand/value is always going to get worse and worse and is horrifically unfriendly to new players. Alot of old players have quit from how difficult its become.
Trading is the main premise of the site, and its been in a abismal state for years. Releasing the numbers is the only way to get out of it.

I agree with this sentiment very much. While I'm not a completionist, there are a few rare monthly outcomes I've wanted simply because I enjoy their designs. Over ten years later, I've still been unable to obtain those rarer pets (and more) because of infinitely increasing market values and wild demand. I would not like to see this trend continue nor happen more frequently.

I find hard-to-get outcomes stressful. I've been on this site since early 2010 and have never adopted a zebra, even though I've adopted all outcomes, every single month. Plus, we already have the yearly UR pets that are difficult to obtain. I think I've only ever gotten 1 of those by adopting, the pea pods. And it seems like its always the best designed pets that are the rarer outcomes, which makes it even more difficult to get them.
I much more prefer pets to become rare over time so that everyone has a chance to own them without having to overtrade for them. Trading is difficult enough as it is.
