I think dates don't matter is a bit of an overstep. I think they just matter less. Now a January 2012 can be traded for a July 2012. Before it was seen as totally unfair due to what people called the 'three month rule'. If they were more than 3 months apart, it wasn't a fair swap. It will make trading within the same year easier. A lot of people wouldn't trade a January 2011 for a December 2011. Now they are closer to fair since they are rated equally. I still wouldn't trade my January 2010 for a December 2011. Age will still matter because of two main things. One is because just like the last system, each rarity has wiggle room. One Very Rare is not exactly as rare as another Very Rare. Also, the older they are, the more likely they are in 'forever homes'. At least that is my take on this ^^'

No it isnt there is a more reason to overpay, yes, but now you have the TRUE raritys, as in you overpayed for your rares before.. Okay in that way it sort of is but its a great change ))

No but it's good were not trading true rares for rares that are acctully uncommon/common. Be greatfull.

Yes, now they are! That is the point of it. Rare = how many of them are available, in theory. And same rarity = same availability, dates don't matter at all anymore. There is no "fewer of them exist." Never again.

Age matters not. And that's a very good thing.

The scale is not black and white, it is a gradient - just because two pets are rare does not mean there is the exact same number of them available. Some people hoard rares and very rares, and I know there are a few users who have multiple OMGSRs, which changes the value of the pets slightly. There is "fewer of them exist". Have the sunbacks, moonswirls and zebras suddenly been released and I am not missing it? There are no more of the rare pets now than there ever were before.[/quote]
To be honest my brain was a little confused from that too, so thanks for clearing it up.
But if i was confused, and i am a (sort of) older user who got confused by this, and i am pretty good with the rares list,
it concerns me for other users.
No wonder it seems i have been getting more fail trades.

So say a butter wolf was very rare and so was a dog. your saying it would be fair. which could be very false
there could be 1000 of the butterwolf available and 9000 of the dog available, making the butterwolf more rare even though they are both labeled as very rare.
which means, dates, demand and other things are taken into account.

Maybe it would be helpful to have this explanation or something like it on the front page or somewhere people can see it o3o

Whatever mattered before, dates, demand, species, etc. still plays a part. This change is just to give us a more accurate view.

because there could be 600 (random numbers) of a certain 2008 rare in circulation, but there could be 1000 of a rare rated 2012 pet in circulation?
(but it that might not be based entirely off of date, right? Cause in advent we might get a UR rarer than a sunjewel)

BUT!
what about re-releases? like there could be 600 of a 08 pet and 400 of the same 08 pet just re-released? Then the date of the original 08 wouldn't matter because there would be more of that pet released in circulation!
