It looks like ALL the stages will have to be redone due to the 18th boxes... that's a lot of work.
It'd probably mean not very many monthly pets for a long time.
If I could have it my way only the obviously traced stages would be switched. Because I really do love the diversity of CS.

It wouldn't take away much, if anything, from the monthly pets, as these would be done as a 'spare time' project. A bunch of the staff are keen to jump in and volunteer to convert designs as well, so it's not necessarily the regular artists who would be doing them, and it's entirely possible that working on conversions would inspire more new designs rather than taking them away. :3

Then again, there are probably already new pets set up for the next few months (I'm remembering that whole "the ponies were made by a user named bananas?????" event XD and how multiple artists sometimes say that their early litters were only released recently [such as the litter with the lynx pps from may 2012--that was created back when the saltytoothpaste lineart first came out two years previously, which is the reason why the lynx pps has a long tail rather than a short tail])...

Of course, this might mean that the artists will have to be working hard to keep ahead of the months at the same rate of whatever the rate is now, buuuuut I figured I should throw this out there ^^;

ninja'd so now my post seems out of place XD

Out of curiosity, what DID happen when the Warrior Cats people found the site? What sort of repercussions are we looking at should the photographer of the horses catch wind of this? This could make a big impact on peoples decisions.

That was slightly different; the designs and lineart were fine--they just couldn't be labeled as "warrior cats" (fireheart, etc)

I don't think this would interfere at all with monthly adopts. I could be wrong, but this doesn't have to be done all at once. Just gradually. Maybe only ten horses will be switched over a month, maybe more, like I said I don't know for sure. But I doubt they'd make this interfere with the more important things, like new pets.

After some thinking, I've decided yes. If it's a copyright risk or something along the lines of that, I'd prefer the coat designs be saved. It sucks to see the lines go, but at the same time that new draft is something a bit hard to resist. And if the new lines do get used (which sounds like they will), it'd be nice, too.

I'd prefer the PPS ponies and Rainbow mane stay in the original lines, or have little changes be done. I think if they drastically change, their value will go down (and if it's on the Advent list, like the Roadkill PPS, it will suffer).

However, I think this debate is getting heated. If the lines change, you have a chunk of CS unhappy. If you don't change the lines, you again have a chunk of CS unhappy. It seems like something has to be done, unless we want WWIII the CS edition to occur.

Also tess has mentioned before on a thread I read that the pets are designed much before their release, which is why some don't grow within the month. That means this won't really affect the monthly pets.

Okay c: that makes things a bit better.
Would you, as a mod, have any knowledge of how well the recreations would be made. I mean, there would need to be a uniformity in all the copys right? I'm just kinda worried that if this does go through there will be a few less-than-stellar remakes released. (the ones in the first post are nicely done)

This! I actually hadn't thought about whether or not the pelt designs would have to go if we kept the old lines and someone found out D: Definitely voting yes - I know some people will be upset, but safety first.
