The Land Of Faith

Postby roseangel2 » Wed May 29, 2013 7:21 am

The Land Of Faith
This is the town's church - it's an everything church. All the religions share it since it seems silly to waste resources that could be used on things like the school on building another church.

Pet's Name:
Iris Sunbeam

Story:
In a far off land, across several oceans, lived a tribe of ribbon dancers. These ribbon dancers started their studies at the time they learned to stand continued them throughout their lives, becoming more graceful and confident as they grow.

Except for one. Iris was born with a simpler mind. She couldn't perform anything but the simplest of dances, never advancing beyond the level of novice and never allowed to take up the brighter and more intricate ribbons of the higher levels.

She grew bitter. She hated those her age who were more advanced then her, those who performed the complicated patterns with ease and grace. But someone noticed. A younger trainer noticed her anger, her pent-up hatred. And this trainer helped her, taught her that no one had even been great without challenges.

And so the bitter dancer changed her point of view. She became one of the best ribbon dancers in the village, over many years and many practices. When a tour of the world began, she was recruited to join, much to her joy and amazement.

It was when this tour went through Raindrop, and she saw the peace, the love, the joy that permeated the very air of the town that she decided to stay, letting the tour resolve without her.

It was here she found her peace and learned the value of helping others overcome their challenges, as she had received help overcoming her's. Here in Raindrop, she works in Church as a nondenominational guidance counselor, who guides all the people of the town without judgment or affiliation to any religion.

Rosaline's Beauty Salon

Postby roseangel2 » Wed May 29, 2013 7:22 am

Rosaline's Beauty Salon
The best beauty salon and town - and the only one in town, Rosaline's salon is a bright, colorful, candy-like place where amazing, beautiful and sometimes gravity defying hair can be found, purchased and designed.
Image
Pet Name:
Rosaline Taffy
Story:
Rosaline was raised in a candy factory, a wondrous candy factory with Oompah -Floompahs who played with her and candy all around her. She loved living and playing there when she was a young child.

The problem came when she grew older and began to wonder if there was more to life than candy. When she asked her father, the owner of this wondrous place, whether this was true, he told her "There is nothing of any value in this world but candy. It is the only happy thing that exists."

Rosaline loved and trusted her father, but she couldn't just accept this. She began to spend hours staring at the fence that led to the rest of the world. The Oompah - Floompahs tried to distract her by performing hilarious tricks with acrobatics and fun costumes of candy and strangely shaped hair.

And then, one day, she made up her mind and climbed the fence, jumped over it and went to live her life in freedom.

But freedom was hard and tiring and she soon found herself in many bad places. She sank further and further into the murk of the world, sometimes wishing that her father would swoop in and find her and take out the filthy hovels she lived in and back to the extremely clean and shiny candy world of her childhood.

It was then that she found Raindrop. The people of Raindrop were nice and kind, the streets where clean and the candy store was almost always open - but something was still missing. She missed the Oompah- Floompahs of her childhood and their amazing and adorable hair.

So, she decided to stay here, in this town of Raindrop, and help the people of the town to have amazing Oompah- Floompah worthy hair. She now runs Rosaline's Beauty Salon and is the best hairdresser in town.

Jayton's Grocery

Postby roseangel2 » Wed May 29, 2013 7:42 am

Jayton's Grocery
A great place to find everything you need! From shampoo to garden hoses and catnip to horseradish, all the food, toys, beauty care and just about everything else is here! As the only grocery store in town, Jayton knows just about everyone because everyone has to shop here. A great place to ask around for someone!

Image

Pet Name:
Jayton Rice
Story:
Jayton was raised in a far off place where all they did all day was pick berries. It might have been a berry farm - Jayton doesn't really remember.

Whatever reason they had for picking the berries, the children who picked the berries where always warned that berry pickers who ate their crop wouldn't eat dinner because they'd already eaten. Jayton was very good at picking berries. He never ate a single one.

Until one fateful day. He had begun to wonder why he wasn't allowed to eat the crop he spent so long harvesting each day. So he decided to try one. It was delicious! From that point on, Jayton became a terrible berry picker - over half of what he picked went right into his mouth. He never got in trouble though, maybe because no one or saw or maybe just because no one told on him.

And then the day came when Jayton woke up covered in splotches. Big splotches, little splotches, rings around his tail and feet! All in the colors of the berries he had eaten.(Which were quite brightly colored if I do say so myself)

He still tried to go out to pick berries but the adults stopped him. "See. This was why we told you not to eat them! Look at how sick you are! You got berryitis and now you can't pick berries!"

Jayton was highly confused. Berryitis? What was that? It was actually a disease one got from eating the berries before they had a harmful chemical processed out that made a person allergic to the berry so that they couldn't be near it without breaking out in yucky bumps.

Jayton was forced to leave the place he had lived his whole life due to his new allergy. He wandered around until he found himself in Raindrop. It was an exciting place to him - no berries! He fell in love with the little town but quickly noticed a problem - there was no place for people to buy supplies!

So Jayton opened his grocery store, and still runs it today. He no longer has any problems with his Berryitis except that it left permanent marks on his fur (Though some faded or disappeared entirely), which serve as a constant reminder of his younger foolishness and make a wonderful story to tell the young ones about why they should listen to their elders.

Layla's Ice Cream Parlor

Postby roseangel2 » Wed May 29, 2013 7:43 am

Layla's Ice Cream Parlor
The most fun place in town!( At least for ice cream lovers!) With over 100 flavors ranging from buttered popcorn to raspberry twist, it has the most variety of ice cream for several towns over! Ice cream, bright pastel walls, and well, ugh...more ice cream!

Image
Pet Name:
Layla Buttercream
Story:
As a small bunny, Layla didn't like her name. It was too cuddly, too cute and obviously, she wasn't either of those.
Layla liked to design structures made of sand and glass and fine filigrees. She spent hours working out complicated patterns on paper before starting them as 3d models. She often resorted to pipe cleaners and popsicle sticks when her finer materials ran out.
She worked day in and day out for hours on each project until she was satisfied with the results.

The Butterfly Forest

Postby roseangel2 » Wed May 29, 2013 7:44 am

The Butterfly Forest
A beautiful place where all are welcome and butterflies live in huge flocks that move throughout the forest. A glade rests at the center of the forest that is used by the townspeople as a meeting place on occasion. Many people of Raindrop choose to live out their days in this peaceful place surrounded by the butterflies and protecting the beauty of the forest itself.

I was different. I knew that from the start, from the very moment I hatched from my egg. My mother called me unique, other caterpillars called me weird.

I pretended, even to myself, that the words didn't hurt me. But they did. Even now, they cause a dull ache and a tiny voice that whispers, "Weirdo. You don't belong. You're different. You're a freak."

I couldn't wait to begin my cocoon. I longed to be in the solitude of my cocoon more than even the other caterpillars. For at least a few days, I would escape the taunts and whispers of the caterpillars, be free of the burden of the knowledge that I was an outcast.

Soon enough, I was ready for my cocoon. I spun it quickly, encasing myself inside. My mother told me that the cocoon would decide it all, but of course, she wasn't allowed to tell me what happens.
That's part of the reason why every caterpillar wants to get into their cocoon. They want to be in on the secret. They also, of course, like any other young one, want to grow up.

Inside, it was warm and snug and dark. That was all I registered before I fell asleep.

I stood on the edge of a lake, my caterpillar legs hugging the stone I was perched on. I gazed out over the lake but all I could see was mist no matter how hard I squinted and strained my eyes. It wasn't quite what I expected. I knew I was dreaming and I expected the dream-like tranquility and acceptance to wash over me but it didn't. I never even knew that I slipped into a type of state like that when I dreamed. I guess when you dream, you don't question yet here I am dreaming and holding on to all conscious thought.

"Young one..." A soft, soothing, definitely feminine voice murmured from behind me. I spun around (well, not exactly, but scurried around as fast as my little caterpillar legs could take me).

A pale apparition of a slender solid golden butterfly wolf hovered in the air, her delicate laced golden wings fluttering gently. I immediately sensed that she was good and I calmed down.

"You are eager..." The butterfly wolf mused, seemingly deep in thought. She stared at me for five minutes before I finally stammered, "E-excuse me, Miss., but uh, do you have a name?"

Caterpillars didn't have names. Oh, no, they didn't get their names till after the cocoon and their colors were decided. I assumed that she would have a name since she was already a full-grown butterfly wolf.

"
Oh, sorry. My name is Arabella, the Benevolent Duchess of Decision." The golden wolf murmured. "Or, as I prefer, Bella."

Bella murmured on as if I weren't there. I sighed and crawled off the rock and surprisingly, her head followed me but Bella still stood there, muttering as if nothing had happened.

Well, that's not creepy at all.

I let out another sigh and stood there while she talked away in soft tones, only half-saying them. This was not what I had expected.

A minute later, a huge splash from the lake splashed droplets of water onto I and Bella. I turned my head around and saw a dog, swimming toward us. I looked back at Bella for cues as to what to do but she acted as if nothing had happened.

"
Bella! You may be benevolent but can't you see that you're boring the poor caterpillar?" The dog barked in deep ringing tones.

That shook Bella out of her trance. I didn't know it was possible for Bella to get mad, with her soft, sweet voice but she did. Bella snapped her head in the dog's direction and darted toward him.

"Listen, we've had this conversation before! Butterfly wolves are my duty. You stick with your wolves and dogs and I'll stick with my own species, thank you very much!" Bella barked and even nipped his shoulder.

"
But you always make it so boring for the caterpillars! And I was only offering advice!" The dog growled.

And then they threw themselves into a fight. Not an argument, a fight.

Something wasn't right. It was too quick and I don't think spirits fought like that. But it was still my job to stop them. I eyed the water distastefully then jumped in and--Oh, I have paws! When did I get paws? They were a not-very-pleasing-to-the-eye gray but I still had paws! I was one step closer to becoming a butterfly wolf!

I craned my head back to see if I had wings but no such luck. I sighed and plowed on. That was weird. Usually I'm afraid of water AND I don't know how to swim.

"You guys! It's not a time to fight! Stop! Violence won't answer anything!" I spouted a bunch of random quotes from my mother.

And, they immediately stopped. And I mean, immediately. As soon as I opened my mouth, they stopped.

Then...Bella applauded? One, I didn't know butterfly wolves were that flexible and two, why the clapping?

"I knew it! I could just tell from the moment I saw her! It's red!" She cried gleefully, dropping her oh-spirity, ghosty, soft voice.

"Huh?"

And then I jolted out of my dream. Restlessly, I fought my way out and....I had wings! And fur! And paws and a tail and teeth! And, oh, as I emerged out into the sunlight I realized I was this pretty peach-red color. Oh the sunlight! How I had missed it! It felt like only a few hours but I knew it must have been days. And they had no sun in my dream....

But oh! I had feathers! I gave a few experimental beats, then, following instinct, beat them faster to rise myself into the air.

I was a hummingbird wolf!

The others stopped calling me names and they actually made an effort to be my friend. I forgave them but I honestly didn't think I wanted to be friends with wolves that judged people by their looks.

And, the most important part.

My name.

As a gift, my mother had given me a rosebush with blossoms the same shade. And, as soon as I saw it, I knew.

I was Rosaline.
