The Holly and the Ivy - Carol of the Bells
2024 Advent - Christmas carol ponies
These were my very first releases for the site and I was both very excited and very nervous about them. I really wanted to make a good first impression as a guest artist and I wanted to make a litter that I would be happy with even if they were the only pets I ever made for the site. Obviously I went on to make plenty of other stuff, but I'm still really proud of these! They are of course themed after Christmas carols, and I also drew a lot of inspiration from carousel horses.
2024 Advent - New Mexico Christmas items
I wanted to do an item set based on Christmas traditions from New Mexico, since the region has a lot of unique traditions that aren't very common anywhere else. Admittedly the straight chile ristras aren't specifically a Christmas thing so they're a bit odd in a Christmas set, but it felt weird to only include the chile wreaths when there weren't previously any normal chile ristra items, so into the set they went. I think the red ristra items are still some of the nicest looking items I've ever made for the site. I was rather surprised at how popular the luminaria (bonfire) item became as a means of setting things on fire in dressups, though in hindsight it should have been totally predictable. I am living up to my username in that small way, I guess.

2025 February - Panther chameleons
When I saw a suggestion to do panther chameleons I knew I had to do it! I am definitely not as familiar with chameleon morphs as some people, but I did a bunch of research and tried my best to cover a wide range of colors and patterns. I also of course had to include a female - she's a little drab compared to her littermates, but just as cool! I nearly cut the Ankify outcome, because truthfully I kind of hate it, but was convinced to keep it—in retrospect, a good idea, given that it's one of the more popular outcomes of the litter.
2025 February - Fjord ponies
The edits in this litter were done by me, and the designs would have been too, but real life happened to me just days before they were due and I was in no shape to finish the pets. Fortunately Susiron had some spare time that week and was happy to take over and color my edits. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, in retrospect I am glad for the impromptu collab, because Susi did a FANTASTIC job with the designs (and also made way more outcomes than I would have lol).
2025 St Patrick's Day cats
No specific inspiration for these guys beyond "cats with clovers on them," but I'm still very pleased with how they came out! Each has a different variation for its clovers—the tabby grey outcome's are unaltered, the rainbow outcome's are blooming, the dark grey outcome's are covered in water droplets, and the black outcome's are sparkly. The black outcome is patterned after a cait sidhe.
Macchiato - Cappuccino - Latte
Mocha - Matcha Latte
2025 April - Latte monkeys
These guys are of course based on latte art, but they have lots of other little details too. Their growing stages are meant to represent the process of making the drinks—so the newborn stages represented unaltered espresso/matcha, the growing stages were right after adding milk before everything mixed together, and the full grown stages are the final drinks. Each outcome is based on a specific drink, and I picked different final stages for each drink according to their relative volumes.
2025 CS Birthday - UR pet plushies
I had actually originally drawn these for the advent calendar, but they were finished rather last minute and there was already plenty of stuff ready for advent, so they got saved for CS Birthday instead. I'm glad they did, I think the birthday was a better fit for them, and gave them a bit more a spotlight than they would have had in the flood of advent releases. I specifically aimed for a goofier (but still cute) style for these, definitely inspired by the Beanie Babies and Webkinz plushies of my youth. Of course, now I fear I might be obligated to update this set with new URs every year for the rest of time...
2025 Easter - Muscovy ducks
I'll be honest, coming up with stuff to fit Easter/springtime themes always gives me some trouble. I was so excited when I realized that ducks were plausibly an Easter thing, giving me liberty to make some realistic birds—much more in my wheelhouse! I chose muscovy ducks specifically as a ploy to get a friend of mine who keeps them to join CS (this ploy failed... I haven't given up though, I'll get them on here someday). It was a bit of a challenge to keep these relatively anatomically accurate while still clearly being on the chicken lines—my first couple attempts were rejected for being too edited. These guys are actually edited from one of the hen linearts despite being based on male ducks, so they're also a subtle trans pride litter to me.
2025 Easter - Pysanky dragons
I am very bad at pysanky in real life, but I am very pleased with these little dragons! I liked the idea of the growth order mimicking the progression of how pysanky are dyed. This stage of the dragon lineart is by far my favorite, I think it's so adorable and also resembles an egg shape well. Fun fact—these little guys are actually edited, it's just subtle! They don't have any wings, since I felt it would get in the way of the designs.
2025 Easter - Realistic eggs
I originally made these to be event tokens, though they were ultimately rejected in favor of more colorful ones. I do really like the tokens we ended up using in the end, though these ended up feeling like a very odd little release as a result.
2025 May - Skeleton ponies
This litter was made in a fugue state over the course of a single all-nighter. I am rather amused that these became as popular as they did given that in my opinion they are one of the less inspired litters I've done. No specific theme here, I drew the skeleton design and then played with different color variations. I gave them each some extra markings on top of the skeleton design for some extra pizazz, since they looked a little plain when they were simple palette swaps of each other. I still think the pastel one looks a little Easter-eggy, and the PPS reminds me of Undertale.
Osprey - Peregrine falcon - Sandhill crane
American redstart (M) - American redstart (F)
2025 May - World Migratory Bird Day
Drawing birds is one of my biggest passions in art, and since we hadn't had a mini event in a while I thought this would be a great excuse to bring some more realistic birds to CS. I'm very happy with how these came out, though in retrospect the crane might be a little too edited—many users couldn't tell that it was on the macaw lineart (oops). Susiron rounded out the set with some dragons based on migratory hummingbirds.
2025 Pride items
This set has SO many images! I wanted the left and right arm warmers to be separated so that users could mix and match to represent multiple identites, in a good spread of common pride flags to hopefully not leave anyone out—and then I decided they should fit 9(!!) linearts. That includes popular dressup linearts as well as every species that's been used for a major pride release in the past: dogs, puppies, cats, chickens, deer, horses, lions, ponies, and western dragons. That ends up as well over 200 images—phew! The sharks are, of course, inspired by the Blåhaj sharks from Ikea.
2025 Disability Pride - Autism cats
It was important to me to include a bit of autism representation in the disability pride release, both because autism has some of the more well-known symbolism of invisible disabilities and because I am autistic myself. Both cats are meant to represent autism, with one repping the rainbow infinity symbol and the other with a red-dominant palette inspired by the #RedInstead movement. Each cat's eye color draws from the palette of the other.
2025 July - Copper chameleons
I really love the sciences and it definitely sneaks into my pet designs! I thought it would be super fun to do a growth gimmick litter based on oxidization, and copper oxidization is so beautiful and iconic that it was the obvious choice. I knew I wanted to use a scaly lineart for this one to mimic the look of the metal and ultimately went with chameleons because they had been used less recently than snakes.
2025 Store pets - Robot dogs
I went into this set wanting to theme them each after a different "-punk" aesthetic (e.g. steampunk, cyberpunk, solarpunk, etc.). I think that kind of got lost by the end, but I like where they ended up! They're so colorful and quirky. I didn't intend for the spacey outcome to look like Loop from In Stars and Time, but now that it's been pointed out to me it totally does—must've been subconscious inspiration!
2025 August - Fruit puppies
I wanted these to feel like they were taken right out of a kindergarten poster or perhaps juice box packaging, and I'm so happy with where I landed stylistically. I gave the apple pup a worm on a whim and loved it so much that I had to come up with buggy friends for the other two as well! I had ideas for more fruit for this litter than never saw the light of day—grapes, strawberries, watermelon... maybe I should make a sequel litter?
Parsley - Sage
Rosemary - Thyme
2025 RPG event - Herb deer
Each of these deer is based on a different herb from the song "Scarborough Fair," with color palettes and patterns inspired by medieval European dyes and tapestry ornamentation. I opted to give them long, unicorn-like tails to better balance the edits and fit the general fantasy vibe.
2025 RPG event - Sky rats (Skrats)
I'm a big rat lover myself but I understand that they are not the most popular lineart on the site. I went into these guys wanting to make them cool enough that even people who didn't usually care for rats would like them—and I think I achieved that, these were very positively recieved! I thought it would be super cool to have the skyscapes spilling off the forms of the rat. The lineless, whorling style of these is much closer to my normal art style than most of my other pets, and still looks in the realm of the "CS style", so I'll have to experiment with it some more.
2025 RPG event - Rogue/Princess NPC
We were very excited when we realized we could include a GUPPS of a medieval faire pet as an RPG event NPC! I had to go for a pet from this litter, since it's by far my favorite of the original event. It was super cool to decide how the princess cat would look, grown up and badass.
When designing the rogue outfit pieces, I was very careful to make sure it would fit both Princess Alethea and normal cats reasonably, given Alethea's edits, which was a bit of a challenge. The princess outfit was significantly simpler!
2025 September - 2nd gen butterfly wolves
I really love breeding together two very different parent designs. I thought these two parents would give me a super wide variety of fun design options. Honestly, I could have made more than I did, but 7 seemed plenty.
2025 Staff Litter - Hobbes
I was overwhelmed by the positive response to my first staff pup! Believe it or not, I was afraid that users would find him to be too weird and off-beat, what with the giant expression edit. I have never been happier to be so wrong!
See my claim post for more specific details about my inspiration for him.
2025 October - 2nd gen dogs
I saw this pairing suggested in the 2nd gen suggestions thread and loved it so much that I shelved my other WIP 2nd gen litter (as yet unreleased) to do this one instead. I had a lot of fun playing with all the different grey and yellow tones I got from the two parents, and I really like how the litter looks together.
2025 October - World Space Week
After the Mars microbe news had come out in September, I was feeling super inspired to make some space art! That paired with the fact that space event & star-themed items are perennially in demand made me want to make stuff for CS as an outlet, and space week was just around the corner, so it worked out perfectly. UnluckyStar and Susiron teamed up with me to put the set together—I did the backgrounds and the planet/moon items.
All three of the backgrounds are based on real photos we've taken of the surfaces of the moon, Mars, and Venus (albeit rather stylized). I wanted to stick close to true color for the planet items, though in a couple cases that was a bit difficult to do while keeping them recognizable—so many of the famous photos we have of Uranus/Neptune are in false color that they look rather drab and self-similar in true color. I was sure to include Pluto, and honestly wanted to add the other dwarf planets and Galilean moons too, but I was running out of steam by the time I got through the main 9. Maybe next time!
Woolly Bear - Hickory Tussock Moth - Milkweed Tussock Moth
Fox Moth - Garden Tiger Moth - Candy Corn
2025 Halloween - Hamster caterpillars
I drew this long hamster edit on a whim and thought it was so funny that I just had to make a set. The woolly bear outcome was a very obvious use of the lines, and then the other caterpillars came easily after that. It was very fun to research all the different types of fluffy (and often poisonous/venomous) caterpillars in the world. The candy corn outcome is a bit of an odd one out, but I thought it was too cute not to include.
2025 Halloween - Gargoyles
This was originally supposed to be a gravestone litter, believe it or not, before I followed my inspiration down a rabbithole and made gargoyles instead. I had so much fun drawing weird, ugly expressions for these guys! I'm not so sure about the rendering—I don't feel like I got them quite looking like stone—but I still think they're really fun and funky, and there's always space to revisit the idea again later. (And yes, 3/4 of them would probably technically be grotesques rather than gargoyles, but... shhh.)
2025 November - Monochrome butterfly wolves
No specific inspiration for these; I wanted to see what kinds of simple designs I could make with only greyscale, and then put a subtle chromatic abberation over top for a hint of color. The fourth one is patterned after a spotted skunk.
2025 Christmas - GUPPS
GUPPS are always very fun! I picked a mix of my own designs from the past year and pets from the site's history that I like quite a lot. I knew I had to do one of the pysanky dragons after how many people had said they wished the litter had grown up all the way back during Easter. For the cat, I thought it would be really cool to reinterpret the blanket design from the PPS as a skyscape that followed them into adulthood—though it took a bit of fiddling to get it to look correct.
2025 Christmas - Special litter (RPPS)
I didn't have any of my own designs I wanted to RPPS, so I focused specifically on older pets that I have a lot of nostalgia for. I tried to pick a mix of pets that are perennially popular and pets that are equally cool but get less attention. It's always a bit of a trick to match the original artist's style in this type of set, but I'm pretty happy with these guys! For the lion, I tried to give it a design about halfway beftween the two adult outcomes, so it could potentially be the "baby" stage for either.
2025 Christmas - Snowman set
I always think these "build it yourself" sets are so fun and it had been a while since CS's last snowman set, so I made a new one. I wanted to include a good variety of items to let people make more conventional snowmen or funky monster ones to their heart's content. We did accidentally release these at 2x their intended size... an exporting error on my part, all fixed now. Oops! People did really like them when they were huge, though... perhaps an idea for future years!
Dasher - Dancer
Prancer - Vixen
Comet - Cupid
Donner - Blitzen
2025 Christmas - Santa's reindeer
I was very excited to do the reindeer set this year, and took a long time planning lots of little details specific to each reindeer—some were definitely easier to ideate for than others. I even looked back at past years' reindeer sets to make sure I had a relatively fresh take on each design while still fitting in to the established design language for each reindeer to keep them recognizable. For specific design notes on each reindeer, see my post on the discussion thread here.
mariage sorcière wrote:Just wanted to say ty for sharing your design notes here and for making New Mexico items!! I discovered them recently (was away from CS for a while) and it makes me very happy, my partner is from there and has literally never been represented before like this <3 I'm so glad you included the ristras even if they are less of a Christmas thing and more... I guess a fall thing, since that's when the chile get roasted and thus turned into ristras, or else a year-round thing since they keep a long time? But you're right that having the wreaths without the ristras would leave an odd gap.
Also I love the autism infinity cats. And the GUPPS kitty, I love the original PPS one and I love the grown-up one you made!! And the RPPS puppy, I recognized it immediately as a PPS version of the original dog and thought it was super cool.
