Hi hi! I've started reading again in this past year after not having the time to read anything besides the occasional fanfic and school related stuff for YEARS. My job gives me moments where I can read and I also like to read when I'm on the tread mill at the gym. Last year I go through 24 different books, which was like, crazy for me. This year I'm trying to read over 25! I'm on my first book of the year, which is Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice! Very good book so far!
Edit: Fun discussion question! What would you say are the primary genres of books?

Ooooo, let me get my grubby little book loving hands on this topic!
I used to read books at an unhealthy and almost inhuman rate as a teenager/young adult. Now, that I'm older I struggle to physically sit down and read a book with my eyes, HOWEVER, I have discovered the absolute gamechanger that is audio books. Old favorites have gained the added fun and benefit of a talented narrator/s.
Top audiobook reads of the past year has been The Locked Tomb series (Moira Quirk is a genius narrator), The Abhorsen series narrated by Tim Curry, and literally everything that Tamora Pierce has written although Bloodhound/Rebekah Cooper series has me in a choke hold.

Hello! I've seen a lot of things based on Interview with the Vampire spin offs but I've never read the original. It's good to go to the source sometimes for sure.
As to your question, hmmmm. As a label/category nerd, I'd have to say the broad genres in my culture/region are Fantasy, Fiction, Young Adult, Romance, Science Fiction, Non-fiction. I'm probably missing some though haha

Audio books are always a struggle for me personally, I don’t know how when I adore podcasts and informational videos. Audio books just kinda go right in one ear and out the other for me!I I admire people who can focus and retain on them. I also think part of it is that when I read I visualize easier vs listening is more on retaining information and books are very much a visualization of the story. Also the voices for characters in my head often never line up with voice in audio books and that bothers my autism so much lmao!
I plan on reading Interview with The Vampire and then watching the series to compare! I enjoy doing that with books and movies/shows! I also want to read the whole series which is like 13 books which is a lot but I’ve read series that long before. Last year I read the whole House of Night series, which high recommend. It’s considered YA but like, I enjoy Young Adult books a lot honestly. They got a lot of whimsy. If you’re looking for a REALLY good memoir, which I usually don’t like memoir, the Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is phenomenal. It does have some mature themes and can be a tear jerker to read but I read it for the first time in my junior year of highschool then re-read it last year and it’s still as good as it was. I can not gush about that book enough honestly!

I've been doing that a lot lately as well. It's fun to explore new stuff made or based on old favorites. Or reading EVERYTHING by a certain author that I really enjoyed (coughBeckyChamberscough)

do you do something while you're listening? I'll play mindless video games on my phone, or I'll paint or I'll crochet, or juggle, or even some of my BEST house cleaning has been because of audiobooks xD. I HAVE to be doing something with my hands in order to absorb the story. I'm Autistic/ADHD haha so maybe that's the reason why I love audiobooks. I can do two things at once. :)
I totally get the voices not being right. I've stopped reading books because the narrator is bad. So I always sample the voices.
But everyone consumes media in different ways and that's totally okay. I love podcasts too. Have you listened to The Adventure Zone? That's my fav D&D live play podcast haha.

Oh my god I do that sometimes! If I fall in love with the way an author writes I hyperfixate and try to read EVERYTHING by them. I was especially guilty of this in my younger years, I tried everything by Erin Hunter LMAO

I haven't listened to Adventure zone but I've heard of it! My favorite DnD Live play is Dimension 20! I love DnD! I play DnD myself. I'll have to listen to Adventure Zone! If you want a podcast rec I've been enjoying the Lore Lodge lately!
