Official Thread For the Third Annual Viscet Winter Gifting Event!!

Link to all participating users, their totaled points, the points remaining for the round.

Secret Santa's don't usually work out in the end, so I thought up this type of system to take its place. It went over quite well last year, and I have gotten permission to hold it again this year!

How this is going to work

If you're interested in joining, see the second post on this thread. Those who choose to participate will be listed and when the event starts can look through the other participants and see what they want and the characters they want art/writing of. A link to their picture and a short bio will be provided to give inspiration for the art/writing. Find a character from another user and create an art piece or writing for the character, and each piece will be scaled in the following way;

1 point: Sketch - Colored sketch - 100 word story/short

3 points: Clean line headshot with color - 500 word story/short - pixel headshot

4 points: half body with color (half body is typically cut below the chest/at the stomach, showing all/most of the arms!)

5 points: Clean fullbody with color (+2 point add on for detailed shading) - Pixel fullbody/scene - 700 word story/short

10 points: Full scene + detailed character (not sketchy. usually thin lines or lineless, detailed BG with shading) OR Group picture (more than one character, clean lines+colored) - 1,200+ word story/short

Art can be animated as well! They do not count as an individual score, but rather act as an add-on. An example would be clean headshot + color (3 points) + eye blink animation (+1 points) = 4 points.

+1 points for simple animation (3-10 simple frames. blink, ear flick, head bob, exc. Includes background objects.)

+3 points complex animation (12+ separate frames. tail waving, walking, exc. Includes background objects.)

Simple backgrounds are now counted separately as add-ons! They will be counted as a +1 point to any headshot or half-body, or a +2 to any full-body piece.

- A simple background means there is some effort put into creating a scene of sorts, containing one to four items in the background such as trees, objects, exc.
- A colored circle around the subject or a cut/cropped box does not count in this category, as they easy to add in. Add more into it if you would like the extra points!

All art/writing should PMd to me (SilverSamurai) with the title being "Winter of Giving Art for ___" so I can record the points and deem it worthy of the points. ex. if you do a super sketchy fullbody and call it 'clean lines' for 5 points, I will only award you 1 point for the sketch. This is to be fair with the point system so it can not be abused. The art can also be sent to the user you drew it for at this time as well! Please send the same message to both me (SilverSamurai) containing the art to be awarded the points and the user you drew it for. This is only to make sure the art is being received as a gift. Please use the proper form provided in the second post when the PM containing the art.

That number will be added and totaled next to your username on the list (which will be on the third post of this thread). The user you made the art for will also have that number of points subtracted from their gifted total (this is not the same as their point total.)

These are the points awarded for each piece of art/writing you make for another user.

This is a set number given to each user at the beginning of the event. It is simply the number of gifts a user can receive in the event. As all the numbers reach close to 0 during the event, the round will refresh and all numbers will be set back to the initial starting number (25).

An example of this would be:
I made a sketch for Grifforik and it is worth one point. One point will be rewarded to me, and one point will be subtracted from Grifforik's gifted total. So this exchange would look like this:

SilverSamurai: Points:(+1) 1 total Gifted Total Remaining: 25
Grifforik: Points: 0 total Gifted Total Remaining: (-1 from SilverSamurai) 24

However, you do not have to gift the person back. While it would be nice if you did, you are not required to. But say Grifforik decided to gift me back a lined fullbody and is awarded 5 points. The new totals would look like this:

SilverSamurai: Points: 1 total Gifted Total Remaining: (-5 from Grifforik) 20
Grifforik: Points: (+5) 5 total Gifted Total Remaining: 24

But don't worry about that, I will be keeping track of all the points! While you should have a rough idea of how many points you accumulate, you can always check your totals in the third post on this thread, as it will be updated fairly often.

The gifted total per user is to prevent one user from being spammed with art because of an easy character/design and encourage users to gift a variety of people instead of just a certain user. You can also see which users have been gifted more or less by their Gifting Total Remaining, which we should try to keep around the same numbers for everyone. So if you see someone with a higher number remaining, they haven't been gifted a lot, maybe give them something to lower the number! Want to gift a user but they already have a pretty low number? They have been gifted a lot already, maybe choose someone who hasn't been as lucky?

Also, you can not reserve points for a certain user by 'claiming' them. "I am going to do a full body for Grifforik, so reserve those 5 points for me!" is not allowed. If Grifforik's Gifted total hits 0 before you send me the art/writing and get rewarded the points, they will not be counted. This also applies if it brings the total below 0, but this is a special case. If the gifting total remaining is 3, and you are rewarded with 5 points, then the total will be brought to 0 but you will only be recorded with the 3 remaining points.

There will be a starting round, then additional rounds to follow if all goes well.

The first round will have each user set to 10 Gifted Points. Once each participating users' numbers hit 0, a new round will be started and everyone will be given 25 Gifted Points. The first round is to make sure users who entered are actively participating and are not just in it for the gifts. Don't worry! The first round will work a bit differently. Each user can only gift an individual user once to ensure that everyone who enters has a fair chance to get art done before all the first slots fill up. If a user has not gained any points in the first round, they will be taken out of the event and will not be allowed to continue to receive art. If you are entered and are found to only be in it to receive free art, you will be taken out of the next round and banned from the rest of the event, as well as next years event. Seriously, this is a fun event that's celebrating community and the gift of giving. Don't be rude and selfish? If you do not think you will be able to participate in the event, don't sign up.

What's the point of gaining points? Why should I do this?

This is a way to give back to the community in a time of giving and joy. You can join for the sake of wanting to give to those around you in the community, however there will be prizes for first, second and third places. The users with the 3 most points at the end of the event will receive the listed prizes (see 3rd post).

Questions!

Does the art have to be my own? Or can I order art from a shop/DeviantArt?

You can order art! Just make sure the original artist is stated when sending the gift both to myself and to the user it is for. Same goes with writing if you choose to go this route.

Can I gift a viscet to a user for points?

No, this is not allowed normally, and is it not allowed during this event.

What if I don't get the art done in time and their points hit 0 before I can get it to them?

That's ok! There will likely be more than one round. But if there isn't it should still be given to them. It's a gift and a friendly gesture, isn't it? Points don't matter as much as the overall experience of this event, right?

Do I have to gift digital art? Can I make traditional art?

You are not limited to digital art! However, if you choose to make a traditional piece, make sure it's a high quality picture/scan. Also, if you choose to do traditional, please add shading to all your pieces. Only because sketches/drawing traditionally can be done fairly easily and might be taken advantage of.

I want to do the writing option! Does it have to be specifically about anything? Or can I just write?

If you are choosing the writing option, then it should meet the minimum word requirement for the points you are wanting to obtain from it for one. But if you are writing as a gift, it should be a short story/drabble about the character you choose. If you are doing this, you may want to go through all of the character's information to make sure that you are portraying the character as best as you can, as well as get familiar with the setting. Keep all writing PG and on topic.

The dates will be as follows:

November 29th - December 9th at 5pm EST: Initial sign-ups. Please do not edit your form after the 9th, though if you'd like to add/change your form between the 29th and the 9th, you may do so. I will post a warning and an official closing post as the time comes.
December 10th - January 14th: This is the time that you have to make/order art and rack up those points for yourself. This is a full month, and should be enough time to get a decent amount of points. The first round will officially start on the 10th, and I will make a post explaining it. After the first round is complete (however long it takes), the next round will start and so on, up to January 14th. January 14th is the last day to send art for points.
January 15th - 23rd: A cool-down period and the end of the event. The winners will be announced and remaining art pieces should be delivered if they have not already (but will not be counted for points.)

Sign-up requirements:

If you're interested in signing up for this event, must follow the rules as follows;

1. Accumulate at least 10 points.
This can be any art type. If you're signing up for the event, you're going to be giving art/writing as well as receiving art/writing.

2. Try to gift a variety of users.
More points to earn, right? Using up all of a user's Gifted Points because they have an easy design/design that you like isn't really fair to others, so please try to only gift the same user once or twice.

3. Be honest and be fair
This is meant to be a fun community event. Please don't lie or steal (as per usual), and try your best!

4. Art should be original
If you're creating art yourself, make everything original. Gifts should not be colored-in linearts, made by you or someone else. If you color in a lineart and distribute the same lines to multiple people, the second and so on entries will not be counted for points. Yes, they can be gifts, but will not be counted for points in this event.

5. Fill in the form properly
The viscet's your listing on your form should be your own! No tryouts will be allowed.

Now that you know what's up, still want to participate? You may submit up to 5 viscets you would like art of. You can also link their bio page as well as give a personality tidbit and what everyone should know if they decide to draw/write your character. You may not change the entered viscets after the initial sign-up week, however you may adjust information if you feel the need to (i.e. they have a new mate, they changed a personality trait, exc.)

Also, if you want to, you may make a 'wishlist' of sorts. "I would really love an avatar of Albi!" or "pixels are great for my signature", or "Hitori and Delilah are mates, a couple picture would be cute!" is all right, but users by no means are required to give you what you specifically asked for. While this gives them an idea of what you'd like, it is ultimately their decision what they decide to gift.

To get your viscet's image URL, simply go its initial adoption page and right click the image showing your viscet's reference. Click "copy image URL" or "copy image location" and paste it where the (Viscet Image URL is). Also, look in the image URL where it says "size=large". Please change this to "size=medium"! It looks confusing but it's pretty simple, I promise! Fill in the form to the best of your ability, and delete whatever doesn't apply to you (if you're only entering 3 of your viscets, delete the last 2 entries from your form, exc.)

What you should know about them;; They are known as 'The Original" and act as the primary god figure in my viscet universe. They control time and bend space as they wish and see fit, and grew lonely in time. They split off their personality into two major groups, 'The Good' and 'The Evil', to prevent any bias they may have while hovering over the mortal realm. But in doing so made them devoid of most emotions, creating a sort of longing for something they aren't quite sure of yet. Devoid of emotion, often seen as cold and unwilling.

Hobby/interests;; Watches over the mortal realm and spreads joy and kindness. Mates with Keres.
What you should know about them;; Where Nova and Deimos were split from Nahiri's personality as 'The Good' and 'The Evil' respectively, each took it upon themselves to choose a representative of their most prominent ideals. Kali is the representative of Life, as ordered by Nova. She spreads life and joy with and she spends most of her time gently nudging those who needs it. Very outgoing, trustworthy, kind and innocent.

As a representative, she can shift her eye color to match who's she is looking at to grant her the ability to feel their emotions.

Mutations;; Feathered wings - color-changing eyes - lion mane - feathered tufts

Viscet 3;; Keres // Female
Hobby/interests;; Mirrors, feathers and beads. Mates with Kali.
What you should know about them;; Similar to Kali, Keres is the representative of Death, under the command of Deimos, but hasn't always been as such. She was tricked by the shinigami Lilith into the coldness of death, who was then abandoned and left with nothing but her own spiraling anxious thoughts. Given a second chance, Deimos brought a light, albeit a cold one, onto Keres and gave her a new grim purpose- to collect the souls of those who have yet to be sorted from the mortal realm. Even with a new purpose, she remains in a trapped state of being torn between knowing the warmth of being alive and the lure of death. A very sad and anxious child who doesn't trust anyone.

As a representative, she can shift her eye color to match who's she is looking at to grant her the ability to feel their emotions.

Viscet 4;; Kazuki // Female
Hobby/interests;; Arch-mage; intrigued by magic of all kind. rocks and sunrises.
What you should know about them;; Offered a commander position from Deimos as head of shinigami, Kazuki abandoned the dark goddess in favor of Nova's way, becoming her second in command instead. Now seen as a traitor to Deimos, Nova stationed her in the mortal realm to remain undetected and also to prevent as much damage as possible in the field and prevent any future attacks, including those from Keres. She talks with and guides wandering spirits, easing those to rest while retying more fortunate spirits life strings to remain unharmed. Solemn, quiet, kind and observant.

What you should know about them;; Taking Lilith's position as head of shinigami and also standing as Deimos' second in command, Arclight is more than a little cocky and straightforward. She has the ability to control and shape thoughts of those around her, and is very manipulative in her mind control ability. She is a true lawful evil character and has questionable morals, though she believes what she does is for the greater good. Cold, snarky, cocky and proud.

Quick note - I have all viscets' respective toyhouses linked for the purpose of possible design guidance and/or a glimpse into their character. Some may not be completely finished, but I will try my best to have something up on here or TH asap!

Viscet 1;; Claude // Male
Hobby/interests;; He works a flower shop in Cambridge, a little village well known for excellent flower and cloth production. He loves his little shop, even if flowers aren't necessarily his thing, and enjoys long walks through the fields near the village. One of his favorite things to do in his shop is put together bouquets and displays of flowers. Claude also doesn't like to admit it, but he enjoys the nighttime as it brings him the feeling of solitude and quiet like his old life.

What you should know about them;; Claude used to live a solitary life until he was cursed and forced to go to the nearest settlement to steal flowers for what he thinks would be the undoing of his curse. To his surprise, his bonding with the owner of the garden he stole from convinced him to settle in the village and in the process undo his curse. Present day, Claude is usually found somewhere near or close to Alani, as she was the one who introduced him into the little society. He is in the process of becoming more social, so he may have lulls in conversations or be unsure of what to talk about. He promises he's working on that, though.

Viscet 2;; Hariko // Female
Hobby/interests;; She involves herself in the island's trading chain, usually selling goods only native to the Riuhst Chain. Despite where she now lives, she doesn't like swimming but will dip her feet into the waves now and then.

What you should know about them;; Hariko is the canon child of Gnatho and Vallory, two villainous and cruel viscets. Thankfully she didn't have much influence from her heartless father, and at an early age, she was stolen away by Aodh and Aylin. It was mostly in spite and hatred towards Gnatho on Aodh's part, but in the long run, it helped her live a better life. Hariko never knew that it could change when nearly an all-out war broke out between the islands and Gnatho's army, and especially wouldn't have guessed she would be one of the ones to end it. She hates fighting more than anything.

Viscet 3;; Ardyn "Stranger" Izunia // Male
Hobby/interests;; Probably some kind of mischief.

What you should know about them;; Ardyn is the type of viscet to use his words to fight or escape situations more than resort to any sort of violence (not that he's scared to get his paws dirty). He would gladly sit back and watch the world fall after causing some sort of chaos. Ardyn comes off as His history is shrouded in mystery to others, and almost seems to have popped up out of nowhere - beyond that he was once a child, hiding away from the world and eventually stumbling upon the place known ironically as "Somewhere." Hardly being around other visclings when he was younger has caused him to become antisocial and hardly care about others around him besides one select viscet by the name of Jesse McCree. He loves showing off through actions in dramatic ways to draw attention away from his mysterious background and character.

Hobby/interests;; She loves making candles, and sometimes will make little trinkets or statues out of wax. To her, it's relaxing and fun to do whenever she isn't on duty.

What you should know about them;; Maru was a viscling with little to no memory of where she comes from besides being trapped in a snowstorm and becoming lost. It was one of the most frightening moments of her life, but it soon turned out for the better when she was found and adopted by a little group of kind viscets that run a lodge in the woods. That's where she ended up spending a portion of her life, until she was shown signs from mysterious places, and left to join the kingdom of spirits in the sky. In a way she has been adopted by Sahaquiel and his family, but will still visit her previous family as much as she possibly can.

Hobby/interests;; Haku's strongly interested in swordfighting and drawing whenever she has time.

What you should know about them;; Her egg was found by her father, Aodh, and has since been adopted by him and his mate Rhodo. She lives in a crystalline cave with her fathers and rarely leaves, as she has sworn to always be around when they leave. Haku would gladly protect the area with her life if necessary.

What you should know about them;; Lapis is just a small traveler, she travels around Celes hoping to get more into her life. She's currently solo, but wouldn't mind a partner! She travels around small towns, hoping to trade and sell her hand crafted gem items for new things or money. She is also big into gem mining, and loves to scout out new caves around the continent to explore. She is pretty fearless when it comes to dangers when traveling, but spiders are a huge problem for her!

What you should know about them;; Quinn and Quilo are quite the pair. Quinn is very calm and reserved, while his brother, Quilo, is quite the talker. Though he does know when to quiet down and give Quinn his rest. The two are part time guards for Queen Aisha, but in their free time they just love to hang around town, or spend some quality time together. They are in quite a big family, and are often ignored by their father. They have a huge rivalry with their half brother Shimo, but they are quite close with their traveling half brother Pan. They like to stay in their small town, but do travel sometimes.

What you should know about them;; Melody is a quiet viscet. She lives in a small tree house in the forest just beyond Lunaris. She studies in healing magic and loves to create potions and try to develop new plant species. She loves all animals and plants, and just enjoys nature in general. She is quite close with her sister, even though they dont see each other often. She is also quite close with her father, Elijah, and she loves to show him new things she has learned, as well as her gardens!

What you should know about them;; Mishal is a very destructive viscet. He means no harm, but sometimes his fire powers can get out of hand and he'll destroy things unintentionally (or intentionally depending on the case). He's a very sweet viscet when you get to know him though! He is quite busy monitoring his island, Mistral, but he does have some free time.

What you should know about them;; just like his daughter, Eli is a traveler. He travels around helping the fallen angels and demons get on their feet, because knowing them, they know nothing about the world. Eli is a fallen demon, meaning he was supposed to be a demon, like his father Huxley, but became soft and was thrown out of the underworld. Elijah never speaks to or mentions his father anywhere, he and his father are not on the best terms, and his father is probably trying to find him and kill him right now. He never met his mother, but he knows he has a younger sibling. Elijah just wants to see the world, help others, and hopefully be accepted into the Heavens as an angel for once and for all.

Quick note before I get into things
I've included several links in all the "Additional links" sections. If you're looking for additional info on them your best bet is probably the tryout form as that's generally where the most info on them is. My CS Archive has very sparse information and I use TH primarily for image storing. However my CS Archive does usually have stuff such as hexcodes, marking notes, and name meaning, along with a few other simple things such as family connections or other relationships.
However, I'm planning on overhauling my CS Archive and updating some stuff there over the next few weeks so some of those links may change over the course of the event ^^

Honestly I'd be thrilled with anything! Though some general things I really like are
-- Story / Character specific scenes
-- Unique expressions
-- Dramatic lighting (yasssssss)
-- Dynamic / Interesting poses
-- Angst (it feeds my soul)
----+ I wouldn't mind writing either! I'll try to include some more detailed ideas / information at the bottom of this post. Feel free to also use for art inspiration as well ~

-- The following is some general ideas for pieces as well as a bit more information on them and their relationships

-- For Nym, I would love to see some art of her with plants / nature (HUGE plus if roses are involved in any way) or using her powers. A picture or two of her standing over a bubbling cauldron would also be awesome! She's super expressive and portrays a wide range of emotions, so I'd also love some simpler pieces with some exaggerated expressions <3

-- For Eadonn, I'd love to see some kinda dramatic pieces with harsh shadows and lighting (quick example below for a better idea of what I mean) though I'd also like to see sort of pensive art of him as well or art of him using magic (kinda like swirly white mist) / potions. He's a very studious Viscet as well, so some potential props could include spellbooks, feather pens, candles, etc.
----+ What I mean by dramatic would be something like with his back turned, glaring sharply over his shoulder at the "viewer" with some bold lighting from the side and an ominous red/dark swirly/foggy background (honestly Lewis or Mystery from Mystery Skulls would be excellent examples of the kind of poses I'm talking about)

-- I also wouldn't mind art of Nym and Eadonn together! Nym and Eadonn canonically meet just after Eadonn escapes a near-hanging. Nym breaks the chains on his cuffs and helps him hide from the villagers hunting him down. The two spend some months together during which time Nym ends up developing romantic feelings for him, though Eadonn doesn't really reciprocate her affections that much.
----+ Perhaps art of them studying / practicing / doing magic together? Maybe stuff like Eadonn reading a book or working on some sort of spell/potion while Nym is like leaning on him / watching over his shoulder (or in general stuff with Eadonn trying to get work done while Nym is kinda just there bugging him and trying to flirt with him perhaps?)
----+ I'd love love LOVE a piece of them back to back and looking back at each other with them both using their powers / spells / potions at the same time!
