What is CLAMP?
CLAMP is a group of four women mangaka in Japan, with a broad and varying portfolio of manga most of which is available all around the world... possibly one of the more world-wide famous mangaka group Japan has to offer. Clamp started out as a dōjinshi group of 11 known as Clamp Cluster. The current members are Ageha Ohkawa*, Tsubaki Nekoi, Mokona, and Satsuki Igarashi.These women are responsible for Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles, Chobits, Cardcaptor Sakura, X, Wish, XXXholic and many others. Several of these manga have been made into anime as well, with varying levels of success. [Some, like XxXHOLiC's anime seem to be adored, others, like Tsubasa's anime, seem to be hated. Personally I share both opinions.] Most people will tell you that no matter what, no anime can quite capture what makes CLAMP's mangas so powerful. Always the manga is recommended more than the anime!

Initial reactions to manga; OMG a kissing scene 8D what? ... already slashing the two secondary male characters together :3 Main boy is like a Watanuki and the main girl is very, very interesting. I think I'm going to love this one <3

CLAMP is...
Infamous for soft-romance. Kissing scenes are super rare, even for their heterosexual couples.
Fond of twisted romantic gestures. Eyes, generally, get exchanged.
Likes subtext and subtle, metaphorical tie-ins.
Way open-minded. Everyone is bi and "age difference issues" apparently don't exist.
Seem to enjoy taking the common popular manga theme of the year and CLAMP-ifying it. Sailor Moon turns into CCS
Like shocking readers.
Plots are either sweet and simple, or extraordinarily convoluted and dark.
Believe in the power of love, to the extent where everything that comes in its way is unimportant. Even if the one you love is a murdering, sociopathic -beep-.

oh sorry I went away for a while, no this is completely new for me but it looks really awesome, please tell me more about it!!

Sure! Er, well, there are a lot of different genres they get into. Here are some of their more famous works;

Cardcaptor Sakura is a magical girl story but is very well-written and terribly sweet
X is an end-of-the-world dark action-adventure thriller
XxXHOLiC is a mystery sort of tale with tons of spirits
Chobits is a guy-friendly manga about an android girl wanting to find love, where most guys own android girls.
WISH is a cute little short manga series about an angel who attempts to grant a content man his wish
Legal Drug is a shonen-ai friendly manga series which was never completed
Tokyo Babylon is a shonen-ai manga with a dark and tragic end, and a strong connection to "X"
Magic Knight Rayearth is magical girl/mecha
RG Veda is an action-adventure end-of-the-world sort of manga based on Vedic mythology
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is sort of a big final kabang for the ladies, where near all their characters show up [a huge crossover]

CardCaptor is kind of a magical girl series, isn't it? I like those stories...
I just kind of like fantasy-ish stories usually... The kinds that start happy and then get more serious as the story goes on...
