There is already some information about xholis on the main thread, however, you can find all the
cumulative information here - (including questions that have been answered about the xholi that
have not been posted).
Species Overview wrote:Tall, lean frame, round ears, and bright eyes, Xholis are diurnal, hierarchal, and intelligent species that wield the forces of nature. Xholis are social animals that can be recognized into 2 different clans. The ones that hunt at dusk, and those that hunt at dawn. Their pelt reflects their environment as the Dusk hunters tend to have darker palette while the Dawn hunters are significantly lighter. Between those two clans, the species are once again split into more diverse and specialized packs. Fire, Earth and Water are the most common forces of nature that each Xholi wields. The gem they are born with determines their attribute, which is effected by the parent's gems. Every Xholi is given a role befitting their status in the pack, and the leader of the each pack is expected to keep the peace.
Species Information wrote:
An Adult Xholi can grow up to be around 2.5ft (think hyena), weighing about 30~35kg.

A newborn Xholi is called a pup and at this stage the parents must be very careful since the gem has yet to harden and can crack. Once cracked, their powers will be weakened significantly.

It's impossible to tell the Xholi's sex, and there are no concept of gender between them. Therefore, when they come of age, they choose their own identity.

Xholis from their respected pack can bond. It is rare but possible to mate with a Xholi from a different pack, as long as they are from the same Clan. Xholis from different Clans cannot bond.

It is said that when a Xholi from the Dusk and Dawn bond, a special pup is born... however it is against the Xholi customs.

Though the gem stays at a refined state when not in use, when the Xholis is drawing energy from it, it grows into its raw form.

Xholis usually have 2 offsprings, but there are rare instances of 1 to 4 offsprings.

Clan Information wrote:There are 2 clans. Dawn. and Dusk.
Within those 2 Clans are Packs.
Each Clan has 3 Packs.
They are named after the element they wield.
So 2 Clans. 6 Packs.
Clan Specifics wrote:
The 2 Clans have co-existed as long as the history could trace back. With the guidance of each pack leader and the clan leader, the Clans continues to thrive in peace and prosperity. Each Clan is divided into 3 packs, the Moto, the Maji, and the Dunia. The Moto Xholis are the fire, Majir the water, and the Dunia are earth users.
Each Xholi bring their power from their gem, and rarely non-elemental Xholis or unique elemental Xholis are born. In those cases, they are expected to leave their natal pack and wander as a loner. If they were born with another element of Moto, Maji or Dunia, they simply join the other pack as a pup. Other rare traits are acceptable within the pack, as long as their elemental power aligns with the others.
Stronger Xholis are higher up in their pack's status and produce better offsprings as well. They are opportunistic breeders and do not singly bond to one Xholi but to the whole pack.
The Dawn packs hunt in the early mornings where their powers are the strongest and the Dusk packs hunt when the last rays of the sun hits the earth. Through this they are able to live in peace.

Territory Map wrote:
Hierarchy and Ranks (Highest to Lowest) wrote:Clan Chief / Leader / The Dawn / The Dusk
Clan Leaders themselves have no active role in controlling the packs / pack dynamics. Think of them as like a bigger entity (god/goddess) who only intervene at times of trouble. They are offspring of the entity that created/forged the species - so they are siblings that are able to wield all 3 elements. They do not gain age, or choose to bond with any "regular" Xholis. Being seen as a bigger being, the respective packs endorse the siblings and believe that they would protect the packs from harm.( It's a common bedtime story for the young pups!) Some believe they are just nursery myths, but many older Xholis believe they still exist and keeps faith.

Bonding wrote:Because of Xholi's lack of gender / importance of sex, "mating" technically isn't the correct terminology.
When 2 Xholis feel that they are ready for their own pups, they go into a meditation mode and fuse their gem's energy with one another. This fusion process creates chunk of raw gems that will soon become the pups. They take these gem pieces to the Healer or the Shaman. They infuse the last bit of magic that's needed for their growth and leaves them in the den overnight. In the morning, the Healer/Shaman brings out the newborn pups to its parents.

Questions and answers about Xholis will be posted here!
How big of a threat would angry bears be to them? What would be a really dangerous animal (or stoppable in some way) threat to the packs?
Their powers vanish quickly when used in violence, so a mob of angry animals might be a bit overwhelming than a single angry bear would be easier to take down. However, they are fairly peaceful species that chooses to hunt smaller animals/fish. They hunt in packs just so that in cases where one Xholis runs out of power - there are others that could support. In rare cases where all the hunt pack's magic is gone, they fight like regular predators. Other fairly intelligent wild cats and predators can be threatening to the younger Xholis who doesn't know how to use their powers yet.
Do pups get to pick their own line of work? If not, can they challenge the role they were given?
When the pup becomes a yearling, they are able to choose their own line of work. However if their Savant deems that they are unfit for the job, they can refuse to take the yearling in.
How large are the packs?
Current packs are around 20, however this number is expected to grow and flourish.
What sort of power is reasonable? What level of manipulation? Does it have to perfectly line up with their element, or are similar things accepted? (Ex. A Majir being able to freeze small amounts of things or a Dunia having the ability to shape metal.)
For their powers, it must stay within their strict element. A Xholi with the power of Ice instead of Water wouldn't be considered too different to get kicked out of the pack, however they will be seen as a defect. Many will choose to stay away from the said Xholi. However each Xholi can have specialities. One might be better at using the water to use as a weapon, while the other might be better at using it as a defense mechanism. The scale of their power will be also determined by their ranking/skill. A Yearling from a Maji pack might be only be able to create a small shield while the pack leader might be able to cause a small rainstorm in a specified area.
With anything related to the elements, you can always ask me to make sure if it would be acceptable.
Does being dawn vs. dusk have an affect on their powers?
It does not have a significant effect, aside from the fact that their powers work the best at those times.
How many is one user allowed to own?
Unlimited
Can Dawn Xholi have dark colors on their pelt? Can Dusk Xholi have light colors on their pelt?
Think of it like natural selection. Dusk has darker pelt because it allows them to hunt easier at night and vice versa. The colorations of the Xholis aren’t set in stone and does not play a key factor in which clan the Xholi belongs to. The coloration also does not affect the role of the pup/apprentice/adult.
So melanism and/or albinism are totally eliminated as well?
Melanism and/or albinism can appear in Xholis from both clans.
Does the gem color represent their element?
Yes. Anything close to red is fire, blue is water, and green is earth.
Does the gem placement affect their powers?
Yes and no. Technically it does not change how much potential their gem has, but having it at a certain location might make it easier to do certain tasks or develop their own speciality. For example, having the gem placed on the forehead might allow a Moto Xholi to create images with their fire as they are storytelling, or quickly make a shield made out of flames to protect their face and so on.
First one is about the Dunia gems, by earth powers do you mean specifically nature/greenery or earth like ground and minerals or even both depending on the Xholi?
By earth I'm talking about the soil and the ground itself. Not the greenery/plants/minerals etc.
Simply think like the rocks and the dirt ^^
Second, with the gatherer job what exactly is being gathered? Is it materials from nature or herbs or something totally different?
Gatherers are kind of jack of all trades, like you mentioned it can be like the materials from nature (ex: for the bedding of the young pups, collecting items to repair the den/base...etc) or sometimes to help the healer/shaman collect herbs. (Xholis have a carnivorous bias, but will eat fruits/vegetables during times where prey isn’t abundant)
Third, since the territories/maps aren't ready yet or nothing has been said at least, for one of my stories in an application would it be alright to have the Dawn Dunia Pack boundary line meet the Dusk Maji Pack for at least the story? If not what Dusk pack might border the Dawn Dunia?
Dawn Dunia and Maji and Dusk Dunia and Maji will have touching boundaries.
(1 big forest and 1 grassland area and think of those two being split and being the main boundary line)
How often can they change their jobs? Is it common?
It’s uncommon during the apprenticeship for the yearling to change their choice (however it is understandable and it is not something that is looked down upon), and much more rare for an adult Xholi to change their job. Basically the only way they can change jobs is when they themselves tell the Savant in charge they would no longer like to be ______ , but beforehand would need the approval from the other Savant from the job they would like to change to. Rarely do Xholis choose to do this because it may seem like they are irresponsible for their job. Therefore, the Savants usually disapprove of their request. The other way is when the leading Savant thinks they are unworthy and basically think the Xholi sucks at their job (lol). This is very humiliating experience and usually not a good indication of their work ethic and/or skills. Xholis that are ‘kicked out’ from their jobs have a hard time proving themselves to other Savants, so usually ends up as a Keeper, which basically their job is to clean out the base (cleaning the young pups, taking care of the sick, doing chores that other Xholis are too busy to keep up with).
