Illiterate to Literate [closed - new instructors hired!]

Postby city; » Mon Jul 30, 2012 7:21 pm

We are closed for a bit, until the instructors can get back on our feet!

Please don't PM me about being one of our instructors. I will appoint one when I deem it necessary.

Welcome to our humble writing school! Have you ever felt frustrated because, when you look at a writing thread on CS, you realize you just need one question asked instead of taking an entire course? Have you ever wondered "how do I get to the 'semi-literate' or 'literate' level"? How about "I wonder if there are any people on CS that would be willing to give me some tips on how to improve my writing"? Oh, and then there's "what the heck is this 'BBC code' you speak of", right? Well, today's your lucky day! Various members of the semi-literate+ and roleplayer's club have graciously volunteered to help anyone out to the best to their abilities. Each user has their own specialty, and we hope that we have someone out there that will suit your needs! All of our instructors are flexible and adaptable, so please feel free to ask questions to any of them, regardless of what they might focus on.
Note ; Don't forget, there are two posts on the second page meant for helping all of us, too! Check 'em out!
Another Note; If you look past other forms, you will see that some of them have strikes through preferred Instructor. That is no longer allowed. Don't try it.

    Image
    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
If you have only one or two questions that can be quickly and easily answered, just post on the thread. You don't need to make an entire form for only a few questions. Instructors will then answer to the best of their abilities and as promptly as their other commitments will allow.

If you're interested in becoming a student to one of our instructors, please fill out this form:
      Code: Select all
      Username: here
What You'd Like Help With: anything at all, just list it here
Preferred Instructor: if you have multiple, list them!
Activity or Time Zone: because of all the different time zones and activeness of CS users, please answer either or both of these questions here so we can match you with someone that will be on around the same time you are.
Sample of Writing: if you're looking for improvements in writing in particular, please give a sample of writing for instructors to work off of. If this is not applicable, strike this out.

      1. Please be respectful. No one likes unruly students or instructors.
      2. Please refer all issues to me through PMs. I am the general moderator for the thread, and will do my best to resolve any problems.
      3. Please do your best to keep up with classes. This goes for both instructors and students. No one likes showing up and seeing that there's no one teaching or there're no people doing the work. Similarly, let your class know if you'll be gone for a long time!
      4. Listen to the moderator. In this case, that would be me. All other instructors have authority [because they are my mini mods], but of course, but I have the final say in very important decisions. [don't worry. You don't have to consult me if you're being "adopted" by an instructor]
      5. We have absolutely no problem with off topic-ness. Our only rule about it; if you speak of anything off topic, you have to have something else on topic.
      6. Advertising. We absolutely don't mind a little bit of "I'd love it if anybody would be interested, and I need to try a semi-literate role play." But we do mind you running in, going "JOIN MAH RP!" and running away. That's not how we roll.
      7. Quoting your forms gets messy and hap-hazardous. Please understand that an instructor will get to you ASAP, or I will remind them. Try not to repost until a full twenty four hours have passed.

    Hey! I'm change;.
A little bit about me, you say?
    Well, I have an obsession

    Five Fingered Death Punch,
    Shiny Toy Guns, Neon Trees,
and I went to New York just
this past June, and it's a
    strangely addicting town
[its the first time in my
    life I've ever felt
    supremely short.] Yes,
    Smoothiens. I am

    My favorite Disney Princess is
Rapunzel, and I'm in love with

    is James Cameron's Avatar.
    I don't like One Direction
    or Justin Beiber [No, I
    don't like their music, but
    I respect them and their

    or, while we're at it,
    fanfiction. I am open to
    almost any type of talk.
    My favorite Internet

    But, really.
    Thanks for asking.

    I specialize in using
    the mobile site with
    Apple's® smaller

    adore helping with
    Zombie Apocalypse
    role plays, just because
    I know a fantastic plot
    for them, no

    Okey-Dokey. I
    adapted fast. If you look

    . That is true.
This is the first online site
I've ever been on that has
    role playing, trading, talking,

                          Apples to Apples

In this class, I shall be teaching you how to use the mobile site with Apple products to your best advantage. This means, I will pretty much be tutoring you with all the things that I've learned, what to look out for, and, well, how not to drop your iPod. I will also be giving a few tips on how to hide websites from your parents, how to single out a specific color of image if you look one up, how to use fontmeme without having to delete the entire thing, and finally ... The best way to use online font generators that really hate iPods and iPhones.

                          Never Tell a Girl she's ugly ...

In this class, I will be tutoring you. "Tutoring me on what," you say. "On the 'net!" I say. No, really. I'll be teaching you some of the basics I've learned about how to describe physical looks: A few of my Trade Secrets. One of those, If you tell, I'll hunt you down!. No, I'm kidding. But I will help you out.

Creating Your Very Own Form [not including formatting]

Ever tired if hearing this? Oh, yeah. It bugged me too. Here's my quick rant; WHAT?! WHY YOU SAY THAT TO ME? You're supposed to tell them come here ... Jerk. Ok, maybe not calling them a jerk would be a good idea. But whatever frustrations you have should for sure come here and be helped. I'll be happy to assist you! I'll be teaching you basically what to include in your forms, and how to fill them in.

                          Developing Detailed Personalities

Ok. Adding onto this. I've discovered I like to develop personalities, and I would like to assist you. c; So ... I think you get what I mean by this class.

                          More Classes to come!

Re: Illiterate to Literate [a role play school club] a wip!

Hey there! I'm Smamm. Nice to meet you! ^^

Some people call me Smamm, others just Sam, and I even get the occasional nickname
as Spam. I don't spam, but whatever. xD For all I care you can call me Great Overlord of
the Interwebs (yes, call me this...); whatever floats your boat.

There isn't really much I have to say about myself, but here it goes I guess. xD

Well, some of you may recognize me as the owner of the Semi-Literate+ Roleplayer's Club,
and others of you may not. I highly reccommend you check it out if you haven't yet.
It's aimed toward providing a place for Semi-Literate and Literate roleplayers to improve,
discuss, and etc. Anyway, I'm 17 years old, and I've been roleplaying since I was about 12;
that's 5 years! I didn't start out here on CS, surprisingly. I actually found CS through the
websites I had been roleplaying through, but didn't switch over to CS roleplay until about
two years ago. Since becoming more active in CS roleplay, I've noticed the amount of
members striving to reach a higher level of roleplay. When I heard about this school being
made, I immediately volunteered. I hope to be able to assist anyone in reaching their
writing goals, and to help out in any way I can. ^^

My favorite types of roleplay are mostly human roleplays. I like to roleplay romance, action,
horror, and lots of different topics so long as the plot catches my attention. I tend to sort of
like mixed topic roleplays; so those that are action based with a little bit of drama and
romance. Things like that. ^^ While I tend to stick to human roleplay, I do roleplay wolves
and warriors from time to time. ^^

Aside from roleplay, here are some random things about me. I love art. While I'm not very
talented when it comes to art, I enjoy commissioning other artists and even just lurking about
some artwork. I find it very inspiring toward my writing muse, along with music. I enjoy a lot
of music, but my main genres are rock, pop, hip-hop, R&B, and country. I know, country?
What am I thinking? xD Some of my favorite bands are Skillet, Three Days Grace, 3OH!3,
Yellowcard, Simple Plan, Rise Against, Story of the Year, Taylor Swift, We the Kings,
3 Doors Down, Red, and so many more. xD I love striking up a good music conversation, so if
you're ever in the mood, please drop me a PM! I enjoy making and adopting new characters, and
creating the personalities and histories to go along with them. Occasionally I will roleplay my
characters, but for the most part I stick to human roleplays, so my characters aren't
really eligible to join.

Well, I suppose this is all I have to say. xD If you have any questions or anything you'd like to
contact me about, please don't be shy! I won't bite... Hard... >:}

What do I do? The answer is not as simple as I'd like. I specifically specialize in Critiquing and
Plotting. However, I also do some Tutoring and Vocabulary practice. I can also help with some character
creation, specifically males. Regardless of what you'd like help with, you must PM me!

I will work with any level for any of these; illiterate, semi-literate, and literate. Anything
from one liners to thousands of words will go with me; I'm very versatile. ^^ I will help build
up your abilities from wherever you currently stand, and help correct any errors I see
beforehand.

Critiques ;;
So, what do my Critiques consist of? Well, the definition of the word would lead you to assume
it would be a detailed analysis of whatever you're sending me. This is essentially what I do. I
Ask you to send me a sample of your writing, and I give you a step by step opinion on each line.
I will point out any errors, grammar issues, structure issues, and etc. In my Critiques, I'm not
only going to include negative feedback, but when I notice good things, I will point those out
as well! ^^ I will provide little tips and tricks with each thing I notice, and how you can avoid
making that sort of mistake in the future.

Tutoring ;;
Tutoring is a complicated thing for me to go about. I don't really plan on making a thread for
my teaching, where I can help develop your writing as a group. I find it much too complicated
to do something like that. Instead, what I do is my tutoring will sort of work like a Critique
session. For a roleplay you are roleplaying in, we'll work on making your replies together. You
can give me the basic ideas of what you want to include in your reply (such as a character
response to another's question), and I'll help you with putting in details. Now, this doesn't
mean I'm going to be doing things for you. I will have you write up your reply, and then I
will Critique and give you feedback. So, I will help edit out any bad writing you had created,
and then help you with anything you're missing in your reply (things such as quirks, details,
and etc).

Plotting ;;
Have a plot idea? Need some help developing it? I don't mind helping one bit! Plots are some
of my favorite things to discuss! I love to see all those unique ideas you all come up with, and
love to provide any feedback, answer any questions, and even provide my own ideas (if asked
for). Just PM if you'd like to keep the idea on the down low, or even post on the thread if you'd
like more than just my input! ^^

Vocabulary ;;
This is here to help develop your use of language! Two games can be played, and it's your decision
which we do. ^^ The two games are called Retort-tion and Scramble.

In Retort-tion a common word is used (such as deep, eyes, intelligent, boy/girl), and we go back
and forth using different, more profound versions of the word. ^^ This will help build up your
vocabulary, allowing you to use bigger words and help rid of those repetitive chat. ^^

In Scramble you choose five descriptive words to start, and send them to me. I then find a new word
for each of yours that is a synonym, and then take the last letter of the words you provided and come
up with five new, descrptive words! You then have to do as I did with my five new words.

A thesaurus is permitted for both of these games, as I don't expect you to know a ton of words off
the top of your head. The goal is to become more familiar with higher language, and apply it to
your writing; so the more you cheat with the Thesaurus, the more your cheating yourself. xD

Character Development ;;
As I mentioned previously, I specifically can help all of you learn to roleplay you own male
characters. I've noticed that a great number of roleplayers here on CS stick specifically to the
female gender because a large majority of users here are in fact female. There's nothing to be
afraid of when roleplaying males, though; honestly! They're people too, and they're really not as
different from girls as you may think! I can also help with wolves and cats, specifically warriors for
cats. I can help you become aware of the mannerisms of wolves, their body language, and other
things you will want to know when roleplaying. As far as warriors go, I can help you get more into
the style of writing that the authors use. ^^

Image
I don't have classes, obviously.

All of my "tutoring" or help is done through PM, or by asking here on the thread.

For Critiques I ask that you PM me. This will prevent anyone having to see my tips and
pointers for your writing. Some of you may not be the best, so I don't want to
embarrass anyone by critiquing publicly. ^^

Tutoring will be done through PM. I will work with any level, illiterate to literate.

For Plotting, you can either PM me, or post here. Posting here will give others the
chance to throw in some of their ideas you may or may not like. If you'd like
specifically to only work with me, however, please don't hesitate to send me a
PM. We can bounce off ideas to each other, and I can help you out with whatever
you need. ^^

Vocabulary needs to be taken to PM. Most often we will play a game of my
creation where a common word is used, and we go back and forth using different,
more profound versions of the word. ^^ This will help build up your vocabulary,
allowing you to use bigger words and help rid of those repetitive chat. ^^ Doing
this on the thread would spam everything. xD If this becomes popular enough,
however, I may make a thread for all of your to play the games on with one
another.

I can help with Male Character Development whenever and wherever. I know a large
number of the teachers here roleplay males, so if you just want help in general, you can
always just post here on the thread! ^^ However, if you'd like help from me, just shoot
me a PM! I've very rarely ever played females, and most of my friends are in fact male, so
I'm fairly knowledgeable in the male perspective of things. ^^ Wolf Development and
Warrior Cats Development should also be PM'd to me. I use to only roleplay
wolves and warriors, so I'm fairly aware of the things you need to know when using one as
a character.

Sup. My name is an asian to the knee [my old user was C6H12O6, which you may have seen me as. My user before that was Second_Choey, but I doubt you'd have seen me as that ... ;-;]. I'm the one you come to when you want to discuss all things relevant and wholesome in this world. Those things include but are not limited to Harry Potter, Sherlock, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Grimm, Case Closed [Detective Conan], LOST, Agatha Christie, and bubble tea. Mm, bubble tea.

Anyways. Feel free to call me Glucose, Le Asian, Azn, Annoying, Jerk, and I Love You. All are acceptable and none will be taken as offense. Dude, whatever. Internet is a free online community, right? RIGHT? I am Korean, I was born and raised in the US [and I'm in Eastern Standard Time, bee tee dubs], and I hate Kpop. Don't even mention it. NOPE. NOPE. DONE.

But yeah. Okay, if you would like me to prattle on, I enjoy Maroon 5, The Fray, Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Adele, P!nk, Radical Face, Keane, and a multitude of song titles that would take much too long to list. I am female, I am in my teens [and that's as much as you'll ever know], and despite all of this amazing you're getting right now, I can actually be rather serious. And I don't try and skirt around issues. I tend not to be afraid to speak my mind either, although unless you're seriously asking for it [doubtful] I'll be quite courteous ^^

I've been roleplaying for roughly a year now -- a little longer -- but rest assured I am quite able. I wrote a lot before I got into roleplaying, so I think it's safe to say that I know -- generally -- what I'm doing. Of course, I'm human, too! But anyways, I started roleplaying on CS, so I know my way around here, I think. Perhaps too well. >.>''

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
I MAKE IT LOUD AND AMAZING I'm here to answer any and all questions to the best of my abilities! Please shoot me general questions -- such as "what's a 'fluffy' post?" or "what does 'literate' mean?" -- and I'll answer them as quick and fully as possible. I'd say I'm pretty decent in most fields.

Besides being around for general things, I've opted to specialize in a couple of areas to assist those that are really in need of some growth and expertise in the area. I've become a specialist in coding as well as character development [for characters in their late teens to thirties]. I've roleplayed in both genders, so I don't mind what sort of character you approach me with -- or if you need help making an entirely new character from scratch. I only do human characters, though. Sorry, I'm not confident enough in my knowledge about animals to deem myself worthy of teaching other people! As for coding, I really only do BBC coding with efficiency, which works out, because CS uses BBC code! If you'd like a crash course on the basics of coding, feel free to contact me. ^^

Dude, whatever, it's chill. I'd want to know what my teacher's diploma was too before I started learning from them. Okay, well, I've written multiple plots, stories, and characters since elementary school [although hopefully my skills have grown a bit in nearly ten years]. I believe that my grammar, spelling, and vocabulary are acceptable at the "decent" mark, and I also enjoy reading. I've got way too much time on my hands, so I chill on CS for most of the time and tinker around with coding and all of that fun stuff. Usually I'm on pretty much all day -- except from, like, 3 AM to 10 AM, when I sleep. Asians need sleep too, you know. I typically roleplay in roleplays that require at least one paragraph minimum and more often than not I'm accepted, so I figure I have some pretty decent credentials in terms of literacy. I've gone all the way up to at least two to three paragraphs per post, as well. If you'd like to see some examples of writing [not actual roleplay posts] for mechanics and the sort of writer you're going to get in with, check out these examples!

I use a combination of writing experience plus circumstances of the roleplay to create my characters. If you'd like to see what sort of work I can do, please visit my character page. Similarly, if you'd like examples of my coding, please refer to the samples post of my coding and formatting store. Currently this store is closed [because I need a break x.x], but the links lead to posts that I've done myself [although not all ideas are mine. You can see whose they are under the headings]. I'll be teaching all you need to know about coding as well as good sites you can get images from as well as "fancy" fonts and symbols. I even know of a good online picture resizer, if you don't have a program on your computer or dislike downloading images from the Internet.

    вecoмe α мιɴιoɴ?

      Ah, still reading, I see. Excellent. Good. I would love it if you became one of my apprentices. That would flatter me so much if you believe me able and worthy of your time ;A;

Since we probably don't want to spam the thread too much, you can shoot me PMs for personalized questions. Otherwise, if you think it's a question that anybody could have at a time, feel free to post on the thread so I can answer you and anybody else that might have a similar problem. Two birds, one stone, yeah? I'm very active, as I've got my own laptop that I'm pretty much attached to and a phone that has 4G capability. Be warned: on my phone I mark myself as "offline" so people don't expect too much from me. It's hard to manage masses of coding from a phone, and I rarely RP using a phone as a medium. However, I keep up with posts and check my messages. I am in Eastern Standard Time [EST] and am on by around noon or one PM and am pretty much floating around until around three in the morning the next day. Like, I'm doing other things but CS is open in another window. Yeah.

Below is the list of students that I'm currently taking on as well as the open slots. I'm taking a limited number, as I'm specializing in two areas and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I don't want to be unfair or not as devoted to a particular student, after all. I apologize if you're not able to apply because of fullness! Now that school's started, I'll be taking few people than before, and I'll be slower at responding to PMs. I'm very sorry, but of course real life comes first! :C

Please note: if there is no contact or conversation for a week then I'll assume you're no longer in need of my services or are no longer interested in being part of the class, whereupon I will open up your spot to someone else. Just a fair warning!

The Burning Rose ~ Accepting Students

As you can see, I am The Burning Rose, but please, call me Rose. Please don't call me anything but that, unless you know you have special permission, mmkay? Now, I'm sure you want to know a little about me. To start of, its probably very clear I like this color. I use it all the time, and its the most common that I use. Deal with it. Moving on... I am a girl that lives in the US with both her parents, two dogs, and a brother. Favorite music would be owl city- everything. You're Gonna Go Far Kid- The Offspring, Ignorance- Parmore, I Will Not Bow- Breaking Benjamin, One More Night- Maroon Five, and I Won't Give up- Jason Mraz are some favorite songs at the moment. My favorite movies are still The Lion King, Avatar, Paranormal Activity and most other scary movies. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was another good one. Favorite TV shows would be Jericho, The River, The Walking Dead, and Sherlock. Not quite sure what else people want to know about me, so that's all I'm going to put. o.o If you have anything else you'd like to know about me, feel free to message me and ask. I like talking, 'cause, you know, I'm friendly. Just be nice and I'll be nice too. Oh, I should probably put how often I'm on too... I'm on almost all day since I have no life, live in a hole, and am rather lonely. -just have many ways to access the internet. That doesn't mean I'm up for creating a reply all the time, but I do answer messages quickly and effeciently. So, if you need someone to answer something quickly, shoot a message my way, and you'll get an answer in a few minutes. An hou at most, unless I'm sleeping.

As a role-player, I consider myself semi-literate to bordering literate. Well, I must also adress what I consider literate. I consider illiterate anywhere from a few words to one full paragraph. Semi-literate would be one to three full paragrpahs and literate would be anything above that. A paragraph is six-plus sentences to me. I enjoy doing one x one role-plays for most of the roleplays I do, but I am involved in a few group role-plays. I refuse to take part in iliterate role-plays though. Oh, semi-literate also means proper spelling, grammar, and puncuation.
Anyway, as for what I role-play, I do mostly anything with a developed plot that isn't based on romance. Most of my characters are bisexual/homosexual so keep that in mind. I do not do any animal role-plays, so if that is what you're looking for to get more literate in, I won't be able to help you. Sorry. Well, enough about me. Let's move on...

      Image

        Image
The basic point of this thread, hmm? Are you sick and tired of finding a cool plot, but being told you're not literate enough? Well, here's where you can improve. If you want to go from typing one line to typing a paragraph, or from typing one paragraph to typing five. I help everyone from any literacy, but please keep in mind if you're the exact same level as me, I won't be able to help a whole lot. If I start off with an illiterate someone, my goal will be to get you into The Semi-Literate+ and Roleplayer's Club, because then I know I'v done my job. I can't really do this in a class, so this will be done one x one over messages. I do this by helping you improve spelling and grammar and such, along with adding detail- but knowing when to stop. This is also a place to come to if you're wondering if you're including too much detail and making fluffy posts, and how to correct this. [ fluff is a major excess of detail, that make it boring for the reader ] Really, its a place to improve your writing in all ways ^^

Have you ever tried to think up a plot other than the simple summer romances that plague the forums? Sometimes I doubt it, but... Well, here is the place to do that. This little class is to help those out there that would like to be able to come up with detailed plots that have twists and turns. It can be anywhere from a romance to an action plot- anything! Whether you're just trying to figure out how to word the beginning to make it interesting, need someone to bounce ideas off of, or develop the whole plot, that can be helped with to. For longer term students, I offer tips and tricks about developing plots without my help, in many areas, and ways to come up with ideas and how to keep them interesting.

Are you good in groups of people when role-playing, but struggle to come up with a good response to someone when you're role-playing with only them? Can you come up with two paragraph responses when in a group, but only a few lines when with only one other person? I'm here to teach you how to make a more detailed response to fit in a one x one response setting, how to make a one x one search post to more efficiently get the sort of people you're looking for, or even the other way around- how to make better responses and keep up in a group role-play if you aren't good at them, but do well in one x ones.
I can help with just a few things, like how to come up with quick twists when you're working with only two characters, how to make a search post, or all of them. This will be a more one x one class again, over messages.

Haha, okay. I'm just going to keep my introduction short and simple, considering the many, many paragraphs you probably have had to read of the other instructer's here ^^'' To make things easier, I shall make a list, instead of typing it all out in sentences to form this HUGE paragraph. Otherwise you won't want to be taught by me ;~; Which would make me very sad. Okay. Let's start!

    • I am a girl who is in HS
    • I live in TX--so CST time for me
    • I like to be called pie, though i have never eaten a slice of pie before
    • I have been RPing since December 2009
    • I enjoy reading & writing
    • I am online often, though I don't post a majority of the time.
    • Always available for PMs and questions C: I don't bite. Unless I love you enough to do so.

Image

Since I am not going to always be able to post several times a day or everyday, with the start of school coming up, and the fact that we're moving to a new city and my having to adjust, I'm going to require that my students be patience. I will try to get a reply up by the weekend, but it all depends on how strict my parents are and how much homework I have. That being said, I will perhaps only take 2-3 students, once I get settled in a little bit with the new surroundings and whatnot.

Now, what I plan to do is to work with my students one-on-one[1x1] so that I can give each undivided attention. We will start you at the level you are at, and then I will post a suggestion as to what you could do to improve the post, before I reply to the edited version. If that makes sense? Probably not. Let me just explain it more.

What's going to happen, is that I will start the RP off for the two of us. Then, you will reply to the best of your ability. If it's a one-liner or I think you could add more, I'll say so and offer some tips and such, before I post myself, after you've edited.

Before I even start, this is Kiro. c: Hikari likes to lecture people, but she is not fond of students and is hiding in a corner of our account somewhere. If you call me Hikari, you will be promptly sat in a corner of the classroom and poked at with a ruler.

    I'm a scatterbrained teenager aged -insert appropriate age here- living somewhere in the United States. I have no life whatsoever, and spend most of my time here on CS roleplaying. I have a complete obsession with cats; I own two and have made friends and minions out of every one within a mile of my home. Despite this obsession fondness for the fluffy creatures, I don't RP them. ;-;

As I'm proudly childish -please don't come to me if you're trying to RP a gruff thirty year old!- I love to sleep, eat and throw food around, run in circles aimlessly, and make towers out of blocks. I read excessively and write even more, between chattering randomly with friends and roleplaying. It's a busy life, but a good life. ❤ But you're not here for my life story, now are you?

Image

I am a literate role-player, capable of posting 1000+ words without much difficultly. I prefer high semi-literate though, as it's less troublesome to write out. I RP humanoids only, avoid the animal boards as best I can. >_> I see little point in RPing reality when there's fantasy, and have had more fantasy plot ideas then any human should, constantly trying to make my characters, species, and settings more unique. This results in some very unusual settings, as you can imagine. c:

Recently, the fluxes of overused ideas and one-liners on CS has been painful to read. Aren't we all sick of the 'you've won a vacation with -insert celebrity here's and 'you're a lab experiment, and there's no more plot then this!' RPs? Sick of the cliche, over-used character types, and will go out of our mind if we see one more generic, uncreative rebellious princess? If you are, then you're not alone. I'm here to add to help add to the creative and worthy plots on CS, while helping developing unique characters and helping users reach higher levels of literacy. c:
No small task, eh? Well, if you're here, then I can help. ^^ My classes in all their kitteny horror are down below. These will be carried out through PM... where no one can see what happens to you....

Feeling like you can't make the literacy requirement for that RP that looks really interesting? Want to make your posts longer and more interesting, but aren't sure how? I'll run yall through the basics on how to be detailed and thorough but not fluffy, how to add more even when things are boring, when not to post much, etc, etc, etc. c: This will be my smallest class, as it's easier to work with fewer people. I'll take anyone illiterate or semi-literate who wants to be better, assuming you can put up with my occasional distracti- oh look, a butterfly!

Bad plots are running rampant through CS. Want to create something interesting, but are out of ideas, or everything you think up feels over-used? Want a setting no one has seen before, but only have a few intriguing thoughts to off? Welcome to Kiro's workshop of doom. I'll lead you through making it into something great, while constantly throwing tips and tricks for creating interesting settings and plot devices. Fantasy is my strongest point, along with sci-fi, but feel free to bring real-world ideas to me as well. c: This is my favorite thing to do, be assured I will not abandon you.

Three can enter this class... they might not leave the same. X3

    | Tips & Tricks for making and developing an interesting character |
Let's just call this Tips & Tricks. ouo

Like over-used plots, overused characters are appearing far too often. I doubt any one of us wants to see another rebellious princess with the exact same attitude the other hundred rebellious princesses have. Let's try a sarcastic, hypocritical and scatter-brained princess that, trying to escape the arranged marriage the RP plot has set up, drugs her potential husband, steals a donkey from the stables and runs off to live with wicked witch despite all the knights after her. There she learns to create giant toads, which become her minions, and which will plague the kingdom that tried to wed her to an arrogant jerk for the next hundred years. Much more fun.
      Anyways.
I'll be helping to make your characters different from the others. Strange personality quirks that make them fun to RP and fun to RP with, a history that no one saw coming and yet isn't cliche, and the one that makes people say: 'wow, where did (s)he come from?' Everyone wants their character that takes the center stage for being the most intriguing and interesting, I'll be helping teach you how to do that without resorting to overused ideas and cliches.

      Two students. c:

That's it from me! Enter my realm if so you dare. c: I have cookies!

Hello, it's zippyzoo77 here. Before I do anything else, I think you should know a bit more about me. For starters, I like to go by Zippy, so if you don't like using full usernames, there's a short version that I would be glad to see you use. I am not inclined to give away my age, however I will tell you that I am still in highschool. I love to read books, mostly focusing on the fantasy and sci-fi books. As to my preferances to television, I enjoy mystery, drama, and of course, science fiction. Some of my favorite shows are Fringe, Star Trek, Stargate, The Mentalist, Sherlock, and Doctor Who. And yes, I do tend to obsess over things.

Image
I've been roleplaying for three years now, but only in the last two would I begin to count myself among the Semi-literate roleplayers. For the most part in actual roleplays, I mirror post, and do equal amounts of text as everyone else, however I am capable of writing a whole lot more than I often do. I love making new characters, as well as roleplaying some of the older ones that I've had for a long time. As for what I like to roleplay, the possibilities are too numerous to name all of. However, I frequently enjoy roleplaying warrior cats, book or television based (though take note that I only roleplay OCs.), mideval, and magic roleplays. One thing that I love to do is to make my own roleplays, which is not a skill that everyone on CS has. That is why I am here.

Image

So now what you're probably most interested in, the classes I'll be teaching.

Basic Roleplay Creation
This class will focus on forming the basic elements that every roleplay should have, and is geared toward the less literate students. It will not include much coding, but it will give anyone who takes it a good idea of how to start and run their own roleplay. If you are interested in taking it, please sent me a PM, or post it here, and we will get to work right away. It will also help with the basic parts of running a roleplay such as keeping your roleplays active, advertizing, and keeping it organized. This is basicly the crash course, so if you've never run a roleplay before, this is where to start!

Roleplay Design
This class will focus on perfecting the way a roleplay looks, including things such as how it is organized and any catchy pictures you may want to add to the front page of a roleplay. It will also involve a lot of coding, and some detail work on the sections of your roleplay. It is perfered if you could already have the basics of your roleplay all worked out. This class is geared toward students that are closer to semi-literate already, but less advanced students will also be able to get a lot from this class. This class can be melded with Basic Roleplay Creation once you grasp the basics, if you should so please. It will also deal with advertizing.

What a beautiful post.
This class is made to help you figure out how to code a post so that it looks pretty, but still obeys all CS image rules. Lots of Semi-literate and higher roleplays require some sort of coding for posts, and this quick class will help you figure out your own style of doing this.

Image
So now that you've got info on what I will be offering, I highly encourage you to join my classes, as well as the other instructor's classes, since it will all help you improve your writing in one way or another. If you want advise on anything to do with making a setting other than Earth, I can also help there. Shoot me a PM.

...and boy do I have a treat for you!

Just want some tricks to spice up your posts? Want some small pointers that everyone
could benefit from? Well, you've come to the right place! Welcome to our little
drive-by-help-post. Here you can find some small tips our teachers have to offer,
some general things to keep in mind when writing your own stories...

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Image
1. Always write QUALITY over QUANTITY. While it may make you look like a better writer
when you have the longest post of all your friends, often time it's just full of fluff. When
a post is filled with fluff, it's no fun to read, and it takes a lot out of the writer, too! Just
think; has there ever been a time that you've read a really boring, seemingly never-ending
reply? You don't want the person writing that boring stuff everyone else had to read, right?
2. When posting, remember to incule thoughts and sights ALONG with interaction with other
characters. If all of your post is in your charrie's thoughts, there's not much anyone can reply
to. Writing tons of thought can lead to fluff as well, which is something we want to avoid.
You want to have a balance of description, thoughts, speech, reactions, and etc.
3. Be descriptive; use pletny of similies and metaphores. Spice up your writing! Use some
out-of-the-norm words instead of repeating ones you use constantly. Make things FLOW.

Here's a little more depth into what to include in your posts. My friend wrote this out for
me when I was starting out in the roleplay game, and I found it VERY useful! Even if you
are already semi-literate+, you can still use all of this information for your current and
future roleplays!

Need any help with a thread reply?
Look no farther!

Having trouble with posting longer, well, posts? Don't know how to give your character's response, thoughts, movements, gestures, some... zing? Well, here are a couple of questions you - as an RPist- can ask yourself when posting in a thread. Or maybe, you can change the questions around so that you can use them in your posts? Want to add some humor? Go for it. Rhetorical questions are all the rage nowadays. One-word sentences are a part of the fad too. It can help lengthen your post and might even help develop you into a better writer/RPer than you already are.

• What is your character feeling at the moment? Sad? Happy? ecstatic? Emo? Frustrated? Nonchalant? Distant? Rebellious? Or just feeling... a tad bit on the wacky side? Emphasize on it! Are they serious or lax? Anal-retentive or just not-caring at all? Do they like anyone? Talk about their history? Are they shy? Shy enough that they're wondering how in hell they got into a conversation with one of the most popular kids in school? Are they a nerd? Or are they one of those 'I live a double life' people? Are they normally snippy at people, but deep down they have a passion for butterflies? Do they seem to be the typical 'rebel' at school, but when they go back to their dormitory they are just like everyone else, worrying about their hair, clothes, materialistic belongings and whatnot?

• How do they react as the other person is thinking, both emotionally and physically? Do they twitch a lot whenever they have to wait for an answer? Are they fidgety? Do they have a short-attention span? And if so, give some detail on that. What are they thinking at that precise moment as a bee buzzes right past their ear and onto the nose of the person next to them? Do they overreact? Are they calm? Or do they just not care?

• Are there any random thoughts going through their head? Do they like the way the grass makes a nice 'swoosh' noise when the wind blows and no one is talking? Are they obsessed with the way the clouds make pretty shapes if you look at 'em carefully? Can they burp the alphabet? Do they care that they can burp the alphabet? Can they count to one million seven hundred ninety-six thousand and one? Does it matter? Are they counting at the exact moment the other character is speaking? Do they like the person in front, to the left, right, and/or in back of them? Does that even matter?

• Do they make subtle movements, such as brushing away a stray hair, itching a spot on their elbow, yawning? Is that relevant? The answer is yes. Emphasis is the key. Detail is everything when RPing. Are they having a bad hair day and think that the people around them are noticing it and making obvious comments? Or do they not care? Does everything always have to be about them? And if so, why? Or better yet, why not?

• How do they feel in the space that they are in? Is it too cold? Too hot? Too warm? Not warm enough? Too close? Too far? Too loud? Too quiet? Too many people for comfort? Not enough people for comfort? Is it shady where they are? Or is there not enough shade? Are there trees, grass, shrubs, wild animals, flowers, man-eating-plants, birds, the sun, the moon, two moons, three different-colored suns? Are they in a Forest? What is in the forest that keeps making that 'bump-a-thump' sound? Why do they care? Or do they still not care?

• What can your character hear, other than the person speaking? Are there fireworks around them? Is there a fight going on? Were they in the fight? Is the noise distracting? Can they ignore it, or does it keep re-occurring minute after minute after minute. Is your character paying attention to the others at all? Do they want to leave? Or do they desperately need the attention to keep their mind off of ... 'The Big Picture'? Is there a 'Big Picture' at all?

• Has something upset your character? Like, another character has just told them that they are leaving for a six-month tour and is leaving them- your character- behind? Does that make them feel a little peeved? Use a curse word. It's acceptable in this kind of situation. (Just don't make your character a potty-mouth). Or maybe you don't want to resort to foul language, maybe your character made up a word and it would deem relevant for the situation. Maybe, your character is screaming 'no' over and over again. Emphasis, again, is key, alongside: detail, observation, questions, answers, and all that good stuff.

Sup guys. I'm back again.

Well, here are my little tips that I've learned through roleplaying:

1. Fluff =/= Description

Honestly, guys, fluff might be the most annoying thing ever. But for those of you
that aren't sure what fluff might be or what the difference between fluff and
description is [trust me, there's a huge difference], let me give you an example:

"Abby sat down in the cafe seat and ordered a coffee"

This is a simple, bare-bones sentence above.

"Abby sat down in the cafe and ordered a coffee. Looking at the tiles on the
floor reminded her of when she was at her first home when she was three. The tiles
were made of the same shade as the bricks that her fireplace was made of. Thinking
of the fireplace immediately reminded her of when she and her family had gone
camping and they had come across these little hedgehogs when they were sitting
around a campfire. The horde of hedgehogs were small and an adorable trio, like her
and her parents. It was like they were there to share the moment with them as well,
and Abby distinctly remembered feeding a bit of marshmallow to the baby hedgehog
    herself and feeling so proud.

She looked up and thanked the waitress when the coffee arrived."

This sentence above? Right here? Full of fluff. Abby was sitting in a cafe ordering coffee,
and suddenly we're learning about a random camping trip when she was three and she
met a family of hedgehogs? That's really not necessary to the post, and only after that
mass of nothing do we see that she's still in the cafe and getting her coffee.

"Abby sat down with a deep sigh in the cafe, glad that she was able to rest her
feet after a long day of work. Glancing up at the smiling waitress, Abby ordered a
coffee--decaf, she didn't want to be up all night--and settled into her seat while the
waitress took her order. Outside, Abby could see through the window that the city
was as busy and bustling as ever, people bumping into each others' shoulders and not
thinking a thing about it. That's just how this city was: it was so full that no one
bothered saying "excuse me" anymore. It was actually kind of funny when tourists
arrived and they thought all of the residents were flat out rude.

Abby smelled the coffee before she saw it placed in front of her. The aromatic smell
reached her and almost immediately rejuvenated her, and she couldn't help the grateful
grin as the waitress placed a single white mug on the glass table before her.
"

This post above is not a fluff post. We're describing her setting, where she is,
what she's feeling and it also is giving a personality to the city itself, where the roleplay
is presumably being set. These are all helpful elements to the roleplay.

2. Fontmeme Counts as an Image

I'm not kidding you, guys. First of all, you do use the [img] BBC code when you
use fontmeme fonts. Secondly, CS staff are really starting to crack down on users who
use fontmeme as a header in their character posts [that is, posts in character where you
are saying what your character is doing] because using images in your posts constantly is
considered spam. However, as far as any of us know, fontmeme in intro posts and in forms
are so far fine. Just don't use them over and over in character posts.

Seriously guys. You'll survive.

Spellcheck. One of the most important things
when you're making a roleplay is to spellcheck all of your front page.
It's really easy to do, and once you've done it, your front page will
look more professional, which is important when trying to attract
Semi-literate and Literate roleplayers. It's also important to make
sure you have the right words too, since lots of spellcheckers don't
pick up on some of the most common mistakes like having the right
their/they're/there or the right your/you're. If you don't have a program
on your computer or devise that you are using, here is a free online
spell checker that you can use.

Grammar. Again, when making a roleplay
(or a form or post) it is especailly important to make sure that you
have the right words. "It's their dog." Means the dog belongs to them.
Which is very different from "It's they're dog." Which would be "It is
they are dog." if you spread out the contractions to the words that they
actally are. There is a grammar checker that you can get to at the
same link as the spellchecker above, but it's important to remember
that grammar checkers are far from perfect.

Pictures. Having pictures on the front page of a
roleplay can be something that greatly enhances the way a front page
looks. However if your picture is too big or too small, it doesn't always
turn out the way you wanted it too, since big pictures sometimes don't
fit on the space that CS allows for the posts. If you use a search engine
to find your pictures, most of them have an option to restrict the search
to certain sizes, or once you find an image you can use the resizer that is
provided for you on the next page of this thread. You can't include pictures
in roleplay posts though, just the front page, forms, and intro posts.
